My story's the same as many: Didn't want to quit; just couldn't afford to keep smoking cigarettes. Drastic reduction in amount of analogs smoked during the first few days of vaping. Then stuck on requiring just two, first thing in the morning and while watching TV late at night. Kept that up for a week or so and then started noticing how quickly I blew through an analog. I mean it hardly lasted 3 minutes and then what? vaping had become so gratifying and smooth. So with hardly a struggle dumped the night one and shortly thereafter got rid of the morning one.

Absolutely do not feel deprived.

We were among the lucky ones that stopped the analogs the same day our kits came in the mail. I had smoked for over 40 years and was at about 2 packs a day. After 8 months of being cigarette free I've been toying with the idea of stopping all together. I would have never thought it possible to even consider before e-cigs.

Tried Cleansmoke and got ripped off.. kept smoking analogs because that "month supply" of carts was 10 tiny carts and low vapour, no throat hit. Switched to an RN4081, which worked for a while, but I was still missing something (although I do still use it when I want to have the feel of an analog or am doing something where I need to be more hands free because of the auto batt).

Then came my Joye 510 with PCC and passthrough...

Analogs are now in emergency situations only. And usually only when drinking, as the foul taste and smell do not bother me when I am drunk. I do enjoy the first drag of an analog, but the after taste and smell ruin it soon after.

Basically, I now smoke 1 or 2 analogs per week at the most and regret both of them each time.

I started vaping my 401 in December. I still smoke 4 or 5 analogs most days (weekends less). I hooked a friend up 2 weeks ago with a 401 and he was disappointed when he hadn't quit after the first week-end. He's cut down in half and we keep working on tricks to cut down more . . . vape 3 times before picking up the analog and the best one . . . don't keep the analogs nearby! He is doing better now but I may up his nic dose just to make sure the e-cig is giving him the nic he needs.

As for me . . . I rarely smoke at home anymore because I leave the ciggys at work. Now I just need to quit at work. (unfortunately, we sell analogs) :( My husband is a heavy smoker so I consider it a win that I don't let his smoking make me want to smoke.

I think a lot of it has to do with the ecig you use. I smoked a pack and a half a day for about seven years and decided to try the ecig last summer. My first two ecigs were the Luci and Smoking Everywhere Gold, which didn't work well. I kept smoking until about a week ago when I bought the Joye 510. To me the throat hit was greater than my Marlboros, and therefore, was easy for me to quit the day I got my 510 ecig. Throat hit was the main thing I loved about smoking, and when my ecig gave me a harder hit, it was easy to switch.

Like you ecitek I didn't just quit analogs. I'm still smoking some every day. I don't really have a time frame on quitting. Every other time I've done that I failed. I'm just trying to enjoy vaping..playing around with flavors and technique and hoping that once I get a good feel for it all I can leave the analogs behind. However, without trying I smoke a lot less than I did pre-PV and esp now that I've found some juices I like. Good luck to you...good luck to us all whatever your personal goal or success in this is. :)

One thing I did notice when I was working through my remaining analogs and vaping too, I smoked 1/2 to 1 pack a day so I was vaping 6 and 11mg nic eliquid. It just wasn't enough. I found by expermentation that I had to go up to around 14-16 mg to be able to be satisfied enough to get off the analogs. I think the standard "equivalents" that all esmoking sites push aren't really true.

I don't think I get as much nicotine vaping as I do smoking. Anyone else come to this conclusion?

I absolutely agree and Ive never bought into the mall stall brands pushing the x cart = 10/20 cigs. If that were true and I went back to smoking tomorrow I ought to be on 100/200 cigs a day...I notice the makers of Joye510 on the sites that I visit don't make those claims as far as I've seen.
I do think we dont get as much of 'something' I can't say if its nicotine or not but definitely 'something'. I do ok on 12 mg as my sweet spot - occasionally Ill get a drip or 2 of higher nic, but I have to be careful as too much or too high doesn't sit well with me.
I do find though that the 'action' or the PV compared to an analog is so similar that it helps a huge amount for me.

I find it strange people have trouble switching at all, I have never met anybody who was as heavy a smoker as I was.

I have a highly addictive personality, for me the addiction was food to the tune of weighing 370lbs, and I lost 190lbs by replacing the urge to eat with caffeine and nicotine instead. Obviously, that led to a very heavy smoking habit that I preferred over the alternative anyhow.

If you think you can't do it read this part carefully: I'm atleast a 3 pack a day smoker without my e-cigs (drinking? pack would last me 30 minutes. no joke.)

Only reason I wasn't 100% off analogues the first day was because I had an unreliable ecig.

My best advice:

If you go with an unbranded model (510,401,901 etc) read the reviews here first.

If you go with branded, use your better judgement on whether they are trying to sell a quality product and win repeat business. Its too bad so many people fall for them, they have gimmic names, gimmic sites with one page order forms, no sight of parts or supplies to order from them. They're not setup for repeat business, and there's good reason why.

Unless you only smoke like half a pack a day, get a PCC!! If your battery is dead and you need a fix, you'll end up picking up an analogue.

Definately.

I think the reason is because its simply not something you can equate. It's like asking "hey I wanna try crack, how many beers is it equal to?" They're two completely different substances, they only share the addiction factor.

These share nicotine in common, but theres a ton of other chemicals in cigs that are also addictive. Frankly, you know we don't want those chemicals added to our juice, nicotine on its own is actually not very harmful its much like caffeine.

The other part is how we use them.. a cig I will keep puffing until its gone, then have none for a while, where as my pv I'll take a 1-3 puffs only, but at much higher frequency. I don't know how everyone else uses theirs, but that means a lower but constant nicotine level rather then repeatedly spiking and dipping levels, which will have a significantly different effect on you.

I just got my first vaping kit today from Vapor4Life. Like a lot of people on this thread, I wasn't (and am not) intending to quit, but was looking into alternatives to help me at least cut back. It's only the first day, but I will say this: the e-cig makes me not want to smoke. It might just be my choice of e-cig and cartos, but taking a few drags from the e-cig is almost the same for me as smoking an entire regular cig. That being said, I have had 3 cigarettes (down from 7-15, my usual habit), mostly for taste and TH comparison... I feel confident that once this pack is finished, I will not be buying another one for a very long time.

Honestly, when I first tried an e cig from my best friend, it was simply the greatest thing I ever inhaled besides analogs. When I was told of the various flavors (especially the waffle flavor I heard about alot), I knew I had to get off the monotonous smoking habit of mine. When I first bought my 510 in December 2009, I became estatic over my new habit. Though I still get the glare from my moms, who complains about the "smell" (she has allergies, so I guess she can pick up the scent), I have completely gotten off cigs. I still get crabby if I don't vape for a day, but it's a complete turning point in my life due to the fact that I have a toddler in the house and I want my room to smell clean, not like an ash tray, unlike my brother, who still smokes analogs but will occasionally take a quick vape with me. Now if i can get him to vape, my house will be clean for once. Plus the biggest thing I wish I could've done was introduce vaping to my late father, just to see what does he have to say about it. :(

I weaned slowly, still had analogs for about a week, but significantly less. Went from 6/day to 1/day, I was finishing off my last rolled pack. I've a had a few here and there since then, but at this point I haven't had one in a week. I still have some of those nasty Djarum cigarillos that I don't know what I'll do with. Maybe if the urge hits here and there I'll have one, there's only about 4 left. I've been vaping about a month now. Couldn't be happier. I now realize how much I stank before...eww! I can't stand the smell on anyone now, it's so gross!

I went with the Janty eGo. Compact size, 5-10hr battery life depending on use, you get two batteries, and it's not the size of a stick of dynamite.
I have the Tornado, and you're right, it's not huge. Bigger and heavier than a cig, sure, but not the size of a stick of dynamite. I thought it would be awkward because of it's size and it's really not. I love my Tornado. Wish it had been my first purchase, but I was hesitant to spend that kind of money on something I hadn't tried first. It was an excellent second purchase. :)

I have to agree strongly with all of this. Pack-a-day smoker for 24 years. Got my first ecig 2 weeks ago (a Blu, unfortunately, i didn't come here first!!). Due to poor performance of the Blu and poor customer service, it was not very encouraging.

While everyone's experience with particular equipment and/or juice varies, I think the 'first experience' matters a lot in terms of success. If you have a good first experience, it's certainly much easier to kick the analogs... When you end up not getting good performance, having to charge batteries or refill carts too frequently can get frustrating and makes it easier to want to grab for that analog again...

I've had days where I didn't have an analog at all, and other days where I've had 5-7. At first I was trying to force myself to completely quit analog, but since have relaxed a bit and am taking my time. While some have willpower way above mine, I feel I can't break a 20+ year habit in a week/day/whatever... So I'm happy to just have my morning and/or after-dinner analog, and hopefully soon they will go away.

I now have a 4075 which I'm happier with, and am awaiting a Vapor King to see what all the cartomizer fuss is about, and am looking forward to getting a Mod and screwing around less with the batteries.

I feel pretty lucky as well. I'm only about six months into vaping and I've probably spent maybe $300 or so. I've seen plenty of horror stories about people being over a grand, so hopefully I'm getting away relatively cheap. No matter though, it beats the 'cost' of smoking.
