I realize all the regulars on this forum are very tight with one another and are all HUGE fans of the GG with undying loyalty so I apologize if I step on anyone's toes here.
Appartanly I received an email last week concerning a recall of my GG Nano (which I only just purchased) however I rarely check that email account & I do not live on the forums so I read it only just yesterday, July 18th:
Dear GG Owner,
It has been drawn to our attention recently that the version of GG you purchased from us holds a potential fire risk (which has been mentioned on the GG forum), that you may or may not be aware of. The problem is that if both the body and button of the GG spontaneously come into contact with a conductive metal object, the GG will power on the atomiser.
We are treating this as a serious recall issue due to the possible problems which could potentially arise.
Therefore, in order to remedy the situation, we request that you send your GG back to the manufacturer in order to fix this problem.
For 12 Euros cost, your GG will also be fitted with a newly designed locking button system which will also prevent any issues of the GG setting off in your pocket by the button accidentally being depressed. We request this money so to only cover the cost of fitting the new button (parts & labour), and of course theoriginal recall issue will also be dealt with in the process.
Please therefore forward 12 Euros via paypal to raptis@netone.gr quoting 'GG update' and await instructions by email from the manufacturer of where to post your GG.
All GG's must be received by the manufacturer no later than the 27th July in order that the improvements be made imminently. Please use a registered postal service to ensure safe receipt of your GG by the manufacturer. Your GG will be your responsibility until it has safely been received by the manufacturer.
I'm really sorry for this inconvenience, but would like to stress that this update is absolutely imperative to ensure your safety.
Thank you for your anticipated cooperation in this matter, and if you have any further questions or queries, please direct your concerns to the manufacturer (email: raptis@netone.gr) who will be able to answer any technical questions and keep you updated regarding the process of your updated GG.
The first point that I would like to make is that when an item is under warranty, it is not the consumer's responsiblility to pay for safety issues, let alone forward (!) money in advance for said saftey issues.
A warranty is defined as: a guarantee on purchased goods that they are of the quality represented and will be replaced or repaired if found defective.
I for one thought the button was a bit too sensitive but have been holding off on reviewing the GG until I could come up with a good way to keep the silly button from depressing immediatly. The statements in the email also lead me to believe that somewhere, someone had a fire issue with this device, otherwise it wouldn't be labeled so urgent in the subject line.
"Potential fire risk" certainly falls under the category of defective.
I have long been torn between whether I hate the Nano or love it. I feared I might become ostricized from the forums if I spoke badly of it for any reason. After this whole recall thing, expecting me to send money in advance for a saftey hazard to be repaired, waiting over a month to get it back, etc... I am very much considering selling my slightly used Nano and getting something else.
I am sorry to all you die-hard fans but this is all too outrageous in opinion.
