I redid the coil and the taste seems to be gone. I probably did overkill, but I think it worked so I'm happy. Boiled the wicks twice. Dried them fast in the food dehydrator because I'm impatient like that. Flamed the kanthal before I made the coil and then flamed the wick and coil after I wound it. Installed it. Dry burned it a few times and prodded to get the coils glowing evenly, then boiled the whole thing again to get rid of the dry burn taste. Dried in the food dehydrator again and checked it out. The coil was 3 ohms this time (fatter wraps) which is higher than I was shooting for, but it works. I think the 32 gauge wire is going to get me more where I want to be. Maybe that will be here by Monday. Thanks so much for the help!
