Exactly.
I know the rules were made in 2010 and they haven't been updated but if we followed them rules it would give other members a chance of winning.
Well, I don't have to worry......lol...won in the innokin contest, and won a Luggy.....more than 30 days in between for me :)

So these are the competition rules.....
Contest Rules
Ahhh. Way back when, I'm talking before I was a member, there used to be a contest for members. This had not been happening for a long time (or if they were when I was new.....I just didn't know about it LOL). Those rules are sooooooooooo out of date and do not pertain to vendor sponsored contests of this magnitude.

@low_tar_neil me thinks that these rules need to be either deleted or updated now that we are having these current contests.

Good thinking!

actually, if you look at the dates on the big contests, they have been spaced out a bit until recently - and would the 'win in 30 days' be based on when their name was drawn or when the contest started or when it ended or when it shipped? and then, if you follow ALL the rules, not just cherry picking favorites, then all of the new members who come to the site would be initially ineligible to play at all - which seems contrary to the thought process, as expressed, behind the big vendor sponsored contests

at the end of the day, whatever they decide, I am personally okay with however ECF decides to do it - I trust that the team is going to do their best (as they have from the start, with a good bit of learning curve) to keep the contests 'fair' (as much as it will ever be 'fair' for everyone - you'll never stop the whiners, the naysayers or the complainers who think that there needs to be a 'for me' tacked on to the end of every use of 'fair')... ultimately, it's free - along with freedom of choice to participate or not participate... overcomplicating the process, involving the semantics mafia or bemoaning the fact that i have NEVER won in a contest run by left handed accountants whose names have an L in them or whatever is not conducive to the SPIRIT behind the contest - for the vendors, its about exposure, for ECF its about building the community and sharing the message... essentially pretty simple, but simple seems to be highly overrated - I'll abide by whatever the team decides and happily continue to support and encourage the community, sans whining

Peace, Love, Respect and Shenaniganery :)

Hi everybody, I thought I'd put this out in the open and encourage some ideas around how we keep these threads fun and give everyone a fair shot at winning.

Lots of people have contacted me asking me to look at how we run things because not everyone has all day to spend on their post count, and it does end up with a lot of the same faces winning each time in the current format.

If someone posts a great idea please like it so I can get an overview of everyone's opinions.

Remember there's no such thing as a bad idea, we just need some fresh inspiration, because there are lots of vendors waiting to do these.

We could do these completely randomly, not weighted by post count, but that doesn't encourage a fun giveaway thread - which is really what makes the manufacturers want to come here and get their products in front of you all.

Thanks for your help!

LTN

So far, I feel the best contest as far as how it was run, was the Innokin one, where the giveaways was broken down into weekly sub contests....where the winners were picked based on answers to questions, mixed in with some random generator picks, so all participants had a better chance to win...those who can't post a lot (or don't wish to for one reason or another) still had a chance through the weekly (time frame irrelevant) sub contests.

Maybe some of the rules need updating but majority of the rules would make things fair.

Agree, and not just because I won one. People had a week to participate, there wasn't 200 pages of kitty memes, everyone had a shot at winning. It was also clean and well moderated, with vendors being available to talk about the product and answer questions.

Now that's cool, being able to question the vendor regarding the product being given away.

Don't know if this is workable or even more fair but here goes...

ECF gets xx amount to giveaway. Half of that goes to single entry contestants. Half goes to weighted.

Do ten drawings each time with five for each type.

Make sure each vendor has an evenly divided amount donated to the contest.

Keeps the chatty people posting yet gives the quiet ones an equal chance.
I like this Idea a lot X amount on post count, X amount random by list of names.
But as mentioned this will give the high posters a shot of a win from both types of draws.
So maybe instead of 50/50 perhaps 20% based on post count, 80% from list of names only.
Still weighs in favor of high posters but still maybe giving everyone more of a chance.

LTN spoke about vendor participation previously. They are welcome to participate, it's just rare that they do. A mix of language, time zones, staff workloads all come into play, I'd expect.
True... It was just an added bonus to a nicely ran giveaway.

I know it won't matter much, but my .02....

I don't like weighted entry contests. I believe it should be 1 entry per person period. I understand it's done that way for exposure but some of us can't just sit and constantly float a link around social media. Maybe split it up where half goes to single entry contestants and half go to multiple entry contestants....

And secondly, put a limit on how many times people can win in a row or time period, I hate seeing someone win something every contest while some people never win anything.

I think @Sir2fyablyNutz suggested 70/30... I could be wrong, and apologies if I am

Or how about this: Only one entry counts per person for each drawing....but, to promote a fun active atmosphere, have multiple (daily, every other day, once a week etc...) "sub contests" with categories like "best meme" "best vape picture" "best joke" "most prolific poster" (for those who really do love the spam type) etc. etc.....
