ROFLMAO. That would be me marina2 :p lol I do like the idea of a split 1post/weighted. But the problem there would be what if you are a middle of the road type. Not a 1 post poster but not a heavy weighted poster either. Although also not sure how weighted is really determined. Have been top poster in 1 -didn't win. top 15-20 in many - no win. low poster - no win. but at same time I did win a few when i first started on ECF. My only problem with the 1 post thing is you have a lot that join ECF just for that 1 contest and 1 post. then when it is done they don't come back to ECF till they by chance see another on social media that connects to ECF here. I would Hope to have something that encourages people to stick around ECF, participate, chat, learn or whatever. Not just grab and run.
I've definitely moved from active on contest threads to down in the bottom of the posters just because of the spam posts from ppl trying to increase their post count. I'll see ya in the "other" 50%

In the 50/50 idea lets say the top 50 posters are the winners in the weighted draw. the person at this point with the least amount of draws would be someone with 13 posts. That is still getting down into the people that don't post a ton.

I still think 50/50 is the simplest most fair way of doing it.

Of course, there's always "Automatic win for anyone who posted in the Giveaway ideas thread" :)

(Just saying, to make your life easier...)

Thanks, as always -- ECF does a super job, trying to keep us happy is like herding kittens.

You should use another contest to look at the "weighted" parts. If you give a prize to the top 50 "spammers and chatters", stand back, it's about to get real...

It looks like a 50/50 covers most of what people are concerned about;

50% of prizes go to a random draw from every name in the thread (1 entry per person)
50% of prizes go to a random draw from every post in the thread (1 entry per post)

I think this fair. It covers both sides. And to state it in the contest rules so people aren't confused. I appreciate ECF, @low_tar_neil, and the companies who make the contests possible. I think it really shows how much you appreciate the members by asking their input as well. This is sucha great community to be a part of.

I did that first but quickly realized that there as many if not more posts after the contest ended so that kinda ruins the ratio and of course the ones posting after the end are the ones who won they are chatting about it checking on delivery status being thankful when they get it and talking abouts it's use.

So not very "real" at all

It would kill any chat or conversations. There would be no social aspect as saying anything would count towards a post.

I like the idea of 50/50 with a couple tweaks.

First, I would make the single post random draws run for one day, do the drawing, and start another daily thread. This would give both chatty and single posters multiple chances throughout the contest period while encouraging activity throughout the contest.

Second, for the post count thread, no back to back posts would help keep it interesting.

No matter how it's done, random luck will still leave some happy and some feeling cursed. I felt cursed for most of two years, then got lucky a couple times. ECF is great for coming up with these new contests and it makes for more fun!

Posting just for the sake of posting reeks of spam, though. I'm not sure why you'd want to encourage spam...

hence capping it for the weighted part - should cut down on a decent portion of the non-conversation postulation, I would think

The thing is when you change the rules not everyone knows you done that.
Before it was you enter with one post and that's it.
But when you decide to change the rules to the more you post the more chances you have then the people who only posted the once obviously won't get a chance to win.

This forum is huge so obviously the competition threads are going to be a good incentive for people to post but everyone is different.
Some of the members who aren't as sociable as others won't get a chance to win but why should they be excluded especially if they pay to become a supporting member?.

I don't envy you or SJ's job as no matter what you do, you won't keep all the members happy.
I agree, I am a supporting member, but my post counts are not huge and I have never won a contest.

ha ha, you know what, it's funny you should say that actually, and, as grist to the mill of everyone who thinks it's rigged, pop over to the competition thread shortly.
