Okay, it was at least partly the juice. I tried a DIY that I had made and it tasted great. Now, off to try the filler again.

Great! Once you have dry burned and dripped, getting a great taste out of the direct dripping, you know you have a good carto body that is just as good as the factory fresh carto. You are most of the way there. Now it's just a matter of getting the filler in properly and letting the juice re-wick and you'll be good to go. First one's always the hardest. I usually have 8 or 10 used cartos in a plastic bag waiting for their "open heart surgery" as I call it and do them all at once. Takes about an hour and a half and saves me 25-30 bucks. Retired on fixed income and all that.

This is what I'd like to do eventually. Since I just got the go-go last month I don't have tons of cartos laying around yet. I just ordered 10 more the other day, so I'm on my way to building up a stash.

I'm not on a fixed income, but I'm currently a SAHM, and I'm starting to feel a little guilty at all the money I'm throwing at this endeavor that is supposedly supposed to save me money.

I've got a few more questions.

1) Is doing dry burns going to wear out or break my battery?
2) If so, could I get an 808D Battery to go-go cartomizer adapter and an 808D passthrough, and do the dry burns that way? Not sure it would warrant the cost, but I was just wondering.
3) Is there any replacement material for the cotton batting? Like, if I don't want to recycle the batting in the cartomizer is there a similar material that I could buy that would wick in the same way?

Dry burns are no different than full hits on a battery. No.
Why get 808? The reason people use a gocart for dripping is so they can get an approximate of what the juice will taste like in a gocart.
No replacement for the cotton batting that I know of. I haven't experimented with replacement batting and I just use the old batting and it's worked fine so far.

808 was the only go-go battery adapter I could find online. I was just thinking I could use a passthrough for the dry burning in case it was bad for the battery, but if it's not detrimental to the battery then there's no point.

I tried restuffing the carto and filling with juice and all I get is burn burn burn. Nasty. I'm obviously doing something horribly wrong, but I don't know what.

I will try again next time one gets gunky.

Oh, I think I finally got it. I think what I was doing wrong was I was wrapping the batting around the straw first and then wrapping the filler around it. When I shoved the whole thing in, the batting was bunching up and I guess the coil wasn't getting any juice so the residue was burning. I'd get the sizzle and some taste for a few short draws, then the sizzle would stop and I'd get a burned taste.

So instead, I laid the filler out flat, then put the batting on top of that, with a little bit protruding from the bottom, and rolled the whole thing up on the straw in one go (rather than rolling the two on the straw separately).

I think this kept the batting from bunching up, because I'm getting a good flavor and the sizzle of juice hitting the coil.

Does that make sense?

Makes perfect sense. Looks like you're well on your way. After the first one, they get easier.

Yes, I think it will be easier now. Thanks so much for all your help! The one I got working was with the original batting, so I still have to experiment with the fluval. I think I'm going to buy some of the blue foam and try that too, just to see what it's like.

Question- What is it about the atomizer being dirty that makes the flavor go away? Is it that it gets too hot and destroys the flavor molecules, or what?

What makes flavor and vapor disappear over time is the fact that the atomizer coil gets encrusted with burnt residue from the juice and cannot deliver the proper direct heat to the juice for proper vaporization. This is the beauty of the horizontal coil cartomizers. you can pull the filler and burn all that carbonized juice off the coil thereby allowing it to heat the juice for a proper vape. with vertical coils once the atomizer coil gets gunked up your only option is to throw it away.

I pretty much have limited my batts to gogos and KGO1100s. I use the gocarts and chopper tanks on the gogo batts and use the echo-e cartos on the KGO1100s. Both cartos are horizontal coils and can be dismantled and refreshed. I've actually been trying the chopper tank on the KGO1100s using the 510 to gogo adaptor from gogo usa. I do keep a couple of boge 2.0 cartos on hand for the kgos as sometimes I want to try a juice for a day or so.

Hey mohawkx- I thought I'd let you know that things are going well. I've actually been able to remove wet filler from a carto that's gotten gunked up and transfer it to a clean carto, so that saves me some juice in a carto-gone-gunky. I wear gloves of course.

Thanks again for all the help. It's getting much easier. You also probably saw in the BAGGT (big azz go-go thread) that I ordered a Chopper tank. I'm excited for it to get here!
