I was just curious if there is a higher quality of silica wick out there, besides Ekowool (i'm using now). Most vendors have the same stuff, but I remember a few months back having really soft silica wick, where the flavor was superb I can't remember where I got it. Ekowool I like but it's not for every rebuildable.

Does anyone out swear by a certain wick they got from somewhere over other vendors? Has anyone experienced this softer feel silica wick?

Thanks for the help

I just got 14 feet of silica from (eBay ID) mr_wick for under $9.00 US and free shipping. It's very silky feeling and the flavor from it is very good. For the price, I would say check him out... here is a link, I will let you decide.

Double-twist German silica from either RTD or eBay vendor vaporbase. It's all I'll use since I found it. Far superior to the standard single-twist stuff most vendors sell.

I second this. It's the only silica I've tried other than the standard twisted silica most vendor's sell, and I was quickly sold on it. Soooo much more durable, I can dry-burn and re-torch and it holds up to abuse. Tastes much better too.

No dont get it lol i bought that same wick because it looked like a really good deal but the wick is hardly even woven together and it falls appart really easy it hqs a strong silica flavor and when you cut it it just instantly unravels on its own

it is verry loosely woven together
it comes unraveled verry easy
it has a strong silica flavor
it frays like crazy when cut

it is the worst silica i have used and i canter wait to get something better

i am looking for something braided lime a standard rope or wire anyone know where i can get it
i wiles post a pick of it now. Had to tie one of the ends to keep it front unraveling on its own

as you can see its really just two pieces of 1.5 mm verry loosely twisted together lol and its made from a bunch of tiny frayed strands all twisted together. I wiles say that it works ok in a standard iglo driper after the taste has been mostly washed out and its broken in

After going though ten feet of that stuff i am now on The hunt for a single braid well made 3mm silica rope.

I like the german silica too, great flavor right out of the gate.
Yes that link for rtd is what their talking about.

Am i doing something wrong with this stuff or what? It seems to just want to unravel into two separate threads on its own and frays real easy i have never had to be so carful handling silica before. I mean i had to tie one of the ends to keep it from unraveling on its own
also its not perfectly round so it has the shape of a womans braided ponytail. I think i would have better luck with round wick. This stuff is almost flat where the two separate ropes braid together i mean its not round its oval shaped you can lay it flat along the braid

I put a couple pieces of wire where Im going to cut it to keep it together until I get it installed. I have not had any issues with the shape of it or wrapping a coil around it. Its very flexible. If I have a coil pre made Ill wrap a wire around the end and leave a tail to thread through the coil, or wrap it around the center for a double wick if that makes sence.
But ultimately were not all going to like the same thing, different strokes and all that :)

It's not for everybody, but I love the stuff. I just use small drippers, and for my coil I wrap a mini around a nail and just thread an inch or so of German silica through. The piece I cut off I totally unravel, it's 12 strands of really small diameter silica. Is very durable and holds up well to multiple dry burns and torching, doesn't break apart like regular silica did for me. I think the flavor is better too, I was my hands before handling it as the bad flavor most people notice right away is from oils in the skin. I also briefly torch it befor using it to clean any contaminents.
