Good starter tank suggestions?

Ok, so I've been vaping for awhile and it's been almost 2 years since the stinkies and my vape style has evolved tremendously. Couldn't dream of a tight inhale or mouth to lung anymore. So for someone wanting to make the switch I don't think a subtank of sorts would be perhaps the best choice for that.

So I need help. I have a friend wanting to quit smoking and start vaping. I've got an old mvp 2.0 that's collecting dust, but peaks at 11W. Maybe that's enough for someone new? Maybe not?

With the way the industry has exploded that past couple of years I have no idea what to recommend a new smoker. I know I started with the typical ego and ce4. Those worked for me, but really had to work at WANTING to quit. Let's face it, dry hits, leaky tanks, etc, made it frustrating.

I'm looking for something that doesn't break the bank yet is hassle free. I thought about the kanger subox mini for a few reasons. 1. It comes with everything you need. 2. Yes, I know it's a subtank, but you can get higher ohm coils for it and close off the airflow for mouth to lung. 3. It's reliable and doesn't leak. (wife has one, only leaks every once in awhile when using the RBA and I haven't wicked it properly but I don't see a new user attempting the RBA right away.

Of course I'm open to any suggestions. It's been to long since I've been a smoker so I don't really know what to recommend for someone new. I definitely know the things I want, but I know a new user isn't going to want to jump into quitting smoking, building coils, dripping etc. He needs simple and frustration free. Vape it, change the coil, fill it...hassle free and easy.

So?? any recommendations?

The newest kanger subtank mini with the replaceable occ coils, available in 1.5Ω or .5Ω. Those are quality and simple tanks that vape really nice and good adjustable airflow.

I vote Subox Mini / subtank combo also. I absolutely love mine.

That is a very nice set up for the price. However, are you looking for something now that just works? Or willing to spend more money to get something that will last you a long time.

The Subox Mini kit is best in class for price, however it is limited a few things:

-Ohms.... It has a .3 limit which if you ever decided to get into more vapor production tanks like the new TFV4 or the arctic, they use .2 coils which this box wouldn't allow

-Wattage... 50W its plenty for some. However, my sweet spot is 60-75W (depending on mood) for my .2ohm arctic coils.

Now, if you think your current outlook will change over time and you want something versatile for anything you through out it, there a few boxes I recommend you take a look at.

The "iPioneer4U" or iPV series.
A lot of these are relatively inexpensive and have high wattage, some have temp. control, and lower ohm limit.

Sigelei 150W and others. (pardon spelling)
Same reasons as above.

Snow Wolf 200W.
Same reasons as above.

For more money, but very high quality:

Sx Mini. I use the "Sx Mini M Class" as my go to, since it is my only one.
Recommend updating it with software.
75W limit, but it has multiple methods of temperature control, allows for mostly all wire types to be used (nickel, titanium, kanthal) and I don't remember the ohm limit but I am using my .2 on it fine.
Its 200 dollars though.

The Subtank is also very nice and I recommend it.

There are some new ones like I said above, TFV4, Crown, etc.

I use the arctic and I love the thing, I have never had a leak. Only problem is no RBA adapter.

This comes down to personal preference honestly. I feel like a lot of the tanks are basically the same. I will get flak for saying this but it is just my opinion.

I had the Aspire Atlantis and that tank is junk.

If you get verified you can also look at what members are selling here, you can also look at facebook groups that sell vape items used but you have less protection.

Best bet would be to go to a B&M store and check everything out and see what you like.

A provari 2.5 (80 new, will last for years.. Proven track record) and nautilus tank are also a nice flavourful setup... Just not very glamerous these days. I mention some other devices that i went through on my ecf blog. Good luck toyour friend

As you know there are dozens of tanks and mods out there, and most these days are reasonably priced. Now with temperature control gaining popularity, that's something needing to be considered. ELeaf and Jotech amongst others have very good kits available for not too much money. Any tank with adjustable airflow will work for almost any level vaper. Its all about learning your unit and finding the right combonation to suit you. You dont't have to take 5 second draws, set your wattage a little higher, close off your airflow a little, and take a shorter draw. Vaping is a never ending learning experience. You have to figure out the right temperature for your juice, your coil, and the temp you like your vape. You can find the Eleaf ijust 2 kit for under $30 online, and belive me it chucks clouds. But if you put the airflow band on it comes with, you can adjust it down to a nice smooth draw. Also, the battery is a 2600mah that will last a simple vaper all day, and is USB rechargeable. I have never had it leak, and it is my travel unit. It also takes Ni200 nickel heads for t/c units. I bought an extra tank in case i broke it and it cost me all of $13. Its a simple unit that preforms above and beyond.

while all of the above are good suggestions, I'd say most are maybe not ideal for a beginner. If your friend loves to toy and test around with equipment then go for it. If not, then a temparature control set-up might just be off-putting with all the playing around until it works.

From my experience, most smokers want something that is easy to understand and to use without the need to read a manual and learn something about ohm's law and stuff. Cigarette smoking is very easy and smokers that wish to quit want something that is easy as well. So my suggestion would be to go with something simple like an Istick and GS Air or GS Tank, The Subox or the Eleaf iJust Kit. Those are Kits that are simple to use, almost hasslefree and provide a good vape. Another suggestion is the Ego One. Have 2 friends that got away from cigs with these.
The Nautilus with an iStick might work as well, although that one has excellent flavour but is prone to gurgling and needs a bit of a learning curve to use it (again: can be off-putting for an smoker).

yes it's a good kit if you mean the 40w TC kit that comes with the GS tank. very easy to use in VW mode (haven't used it with TC). I'd buy a pack of ordinary 1.5 or 1.2 ohm coils with it so he can test for himself whether he likes it with TC or VW mode (if I recall correctly it comes only with 0.15ohm TC coils)

I love my Subox Mini kit. I have two Subtank Minis, one of them sits on an istick 50 watt. Both of these setups are good for begging a sub ohm journey especially if you are looking to use the RBA. One downside however is that I find the new .5ohm coils leak like crazy...sometimes. It's such a mixed bag unless you are using the RBA (no leaking from either of mine). For $50-$60 the Subox mini is a great setup.

All of that being said, I don't know if I would by another istick. I've seen too many issues on too many of their mods that I've owned. Not going to get into that on this thread.
