Well... I know that on another forum ( RCGROUPS ) they would regularly ask the starter of a thread to close a long one and create a PART 2 ( or whatever ) thread and they cited that as the reason... the really long threads were supposedly dragging down the whole forum... though now they have seemed to resolve the issue as now there are currently some pretty long threads there that haven't been closed... none the less, it was something worthy of bringing up.

Thanks for your responses anyway...

No problem, I am in a couple of music forums with multiple threads in the 1mil post ranges and no problems there. So don't know what is causing it here.

It crossed my mind several times till I saw other responses on the issue and then in my own profile getting the server timeouts. This is an issue that has actually been recurring for a long while now off and on.

and I also know that I know NOTHING about computers...
