Okay, one more question on cleaning and the silicon hat from all you wise and experienced stardusters. When dry burning I do not raise the silicon up...I just dry burn with it in place. Is that a no no? Poor girl here and I need these to last as long as possible so I greatly appreciate all your help.

Well, I'd be afraid of scorching the hat, myself, but if you have done it this way before, and there is no scorching, then I'd say you are fine. You would know it's scorches because you would taste/smell it when next you vape, I suppose..

Problem here is that when the coil is wet it doesn't get as hot as when it's dry (during dry burning), and I have no idea what the heat tolerances of the hat material are.

BTW, it's real easy to remove the hat if you have the right tool - no digging for it involved. All you need is jewelry pliers - the kind with the tips (arms? hands?) rounded and tapering to a fine point. You can get these at any craft store in the jewelry-making section, among all the beads and things. They are quite cheap, you can get them for under 10 bucks.

People use these for making different size wire loops, and grabbing wire loops, and here it's the same principle: you put one tip inside the hole of the metal cone that sticks out of the hat, grab with the other - fairly strongly - and pull up. It should come right out. When you are done, hold it the same way, and push it in, being careful to place it so that its straight on top of the coil post. Then just take the mouthpiece and screw it down - it should push the hat into place. If it's not quite right, you can take any long, thing, blunt object (I use the blunt tip of a pick), and gently poke at it until it's right.

This took longer to write down than it does to do it. :)

Briar thank you for the explanation...and the doh moment that explains my burnt taste. Guess I have ruined these two. I have 2 of the new rebuildable ones coming...any tips on those as far as cleaning the heads in a cleaning for dummies format? Lol

Oh, the modular one is real, real easy. You'll be able to unscrew the tube from the base, then take the hat off easily, since nothing is in the way, then unscrew the head, rinse everything well, then deal with the head as you would with any normal cleaning procedure: soak in alcohol, dry, dry burn, rinse, dry, and reassemble the whole shebang. Real convenient. Especially seeing how you can simply put on a new/clean head and keep on vaping while the other head is drying.

These guys are great that way. My only slight gripe against them is that they don't, quite, taste the same way as the non-modular Stardusts.

P.S.: the head has a 510 connection by itself; some folks have had trouble screwing it onto the battery directly (I've always been able to do that with the ViVi), so they put it back on the post and dry burn it that way.

Maybe you just like variety and new toys. :)

I gave up looking for that "all day vape" a long time ago. For that matter, I swore to myself never to buy a 30 ml of anything ever again - I never get past the half-way mark. I get bored with them.

Some people are like that, naturally, with liquids and equipment both - maybe that's your nature. :)

Me, I'm still stuck on the original Stardust, with occasional foray into the ViVi, and now the modular Stardust - but it's still not the same.

I think your right Briar. I am doomed to spend, spend, spend. Anyway I will order some of the older Stardusts too to compare to the new. It'll be just my luck that I'll prefer the older ones and then they'll be gone. I think I may still be under what my old analog budget was but it's getting close. Got about a dozen juices from Alien and Highbrow in route too. Maybe the magic will be in one of those bottles. I've tried most of the GotVapes juice offerings but none has rang my chimes yet. The Caramel Apple came close for a bit.

I can take the cap off the modular Stardust but I'm a bit concerned about getting the short wicks back in place. Long wicks are easy. Is it worth removing the cap for short wicks? Do they just bounce out on their own or if I handle it gently they will stay in place? I recently dry burned a long wick modular with the cap on and it was fine..but I don't want to keep doing something that will eventually ruin it.

The wicks will only come out if you remove the center pin or the wire is broken off... I remove the cap to clean and the wick and coil stay in place.

Gosh, I hope they don't do away with regular Stardusts... They just came out with new stronger tubes, so there is hope. :)

So I am ready to try and dry burn a nova for the first time. I am worried about burning the wicks. Any suggestions would help. I dont want to ruin them.

Don't worry about the wicks, they can withstand very high temp. On other cartos some folks were actually burning them with a blow-torch to clean them. :) Just like Diva said: short bursts at a time, no more than 5 secs, let it cool, and repeat.

... I am doomed to spend, spend, spend. ..... I think I may still be under what my old analog budget was but it's getting close.

I think I may have a little different perspective on this... and often even the lines I use to define this subject are blurred, but they still exist.

There is the money that I spend to replace the analogs, whether it is on juices or equipment and supplies... and then there is the money I've spent that is beyond what is used to satisfy the old analog urges.

When smoking an analog... I smoked one brand and only changed when I found another brand I liked that was cheaper. When vaping, I've found 3 brands/flavors that I can use as all day vapes and I even enjoy those more than the analogs ( flavor-wise that is ). On the otherhand, I've got an additional 20-25ish other juices of which none are really there to replace the analogs... they simply are there for something different and they don't really satisfy any of the urges to smoke that I have had... they taste good and are fun. So the "fun" ones... don't figure into the column for "analog replacement" supplies even if they do cost and affect my budget... they are still not required even though I enjoy them.

Equipment is where the lines blur more and it's a bit tougher to figure out which column ( analog replacement or just for fun and enjoyment ) they fit. I've got to have a portable PV, battery/charger, and vaporizer ( atty, carto, clearo etc )... but the other stuff such as a minicig type PV or a passthrough... are more for convienence and can go into either column.... Trying different vaporizers to see if something is better, is on the analog budget column... but having several on hand for the various flavors isn't required so fits in the "fun" column... Having every color, make or style of PV is certainly not needed so has to go into the "gadget" ( aka fun ) column again.

Simply put... there are supplies that are needed to replace the analogs... but we often justify what we are buying as needed when in fact... they are just there to amuse ourselves in some manner. If we only factor in what we need, it is much cheaper, it is only when we go beyond filling that need that we blow the budget.

Rdsok,
You are kinda right. It's all in ones own perspective.
I'm not complaining. I'm just looking for the day I am satisfied with a setup (or 2, or 3) to get me off the analogs completely. That's why I just lump it together.
It's been quite a personal fight for the last 8 months. I went from two packs a day to 1/2 pack immediately. Had a point where I was only having two a day. Then for some insane reason I went back over 1/2 a pack. Now i am around 5 to 8. Maybe I just need a therapist. Once I am confidently off the analogs then I'll start my vaping fun. But for now I'll battle on.

My budget is ALWAYS blown. Just ask the wife, lol !!! That is when I bring up the "healthier" factor of vaping over the use of the analogs. Usually settles her down. Always have a hard time though justifying the new apv purchase once in awhile. Her: you already have a Provari, Reo, many style eGos, etc.... Why do you need something else? Me: because it's cool, it's different, I don't have one, and I want one !!!! That usually never works. I still order one and the arguing ensues, lol

hey all... I am trying to figure out the Phoenix and getting very confused, top coil, bottom coil, 510, ego, 1.5 ml 3 ml my head is spinning trying to figure out if these are good and which ones to buy. Any Help? I am currently on an ego twist battery. I like the idea of the top coil, but it does not look like they are for the ego? I also have a couple of echo 808 batteries that I have a 808 to 510 adapter on. These batteries are 3.7 if that matters with these. thanks all and look forward to your input.

They will all fit into the 510 threading, they just don't all have the skirt that covers up the outside threading on the ego. Me, I don't care, but some do.

I've only tried the original phoenix XL, around a ml and a half. I liked them but managed to make them leak by user error - I made an earlier post about it.

I get the impression from the big boy threads, however, that keeping the phoenix leak free can be a delicate matter. Briar will know more about it.

510, 808, and eGo are all types of threads used on the battery/vaporizer... so you select the one that works with your battery/PV ( personal vaporiser ). The eGo is a combination thread, it will support both the eGo threaded devices as well as the 510 type.

The bottom/top coils... that is one only you will be able to determine if they work for you and/or you like them. The Phoenix XL with 510 threading or 808 threading ( two diff versions ) and holds about 1.5ml of juice, the Phoenix 3ml is a bottom coil and is an eGo threaded device. The bottom coil devices have typically a cooler vape since the vapor must travel farther through the juice and these don't require the tilting to keep the wicks wet like the top coils do.
