My brother has been trying to convince us that his wife has spent more money on e-cigs than she did smoking so we went through her credit card statements and figured out just how much less she has spent in the past 7 months. She has spent approximately $400 on e-cig supplies, $100 of which was for a mod and was a Christmas present from by brother. She used to spend $50 a week on cigs. In 7 months that is 30 weeks times $50 a week, which equals $1500. Even my daughter who is only halfway through 1st grade math can figure out that $400 is a whole lot less than $1500.

I however have spent about the same amount of money as I would have smoking analogs, but I have bought 4 mods, stocked up on atomizers and have enough liquid for another year. Except that I keep finding flavors I want to try to when I have spare money I treat myself. I've also saved quite a bit of money on Doctor's visits and medication since this is the first winter in 25 years that I haven't had bronchitis and I usually get it about 3 times a winter.

My hubby is also very happy that I no longer smell like smoke and taste like an ashtray :). I also get longer hugs from my daughter since now I smell like my lavender bath stuff instead of smelling like cigs. And I don't have to worry about her going to school and being teased because her clothes smelled like smoke.

All in all I think it has been financially, physically, and socially beneficial to switch to e-cigs.

I agree, even if you get the bug, and spend as much on PV supplies, or even more, the social effects as well as physical effects are more then worth it. I never wanted to quit, then I tried a disposable, and wow. Just plop the 10 bucks on a good 510 disposable
My preferred vendor but they are out of stock right now
or everyone has good reviews on these
But if this is something that you think might appeal to you, then spend a few bucks and try the disposable, if it might be something you like, then think about what you like and what you dislike about the disposable, and do more research here to try and figure out what would fit you the best by using the forum.
Since money is hard for you right now, the disposable would be the best way to try it out.
Hope you enjoy the wonderful world of vaping, and once you try the 510, then let us know what you thought of it, I am sure you will get lots of options, and if you troll the classified section, you can save yourself a LOT of money on a good set up.

My husband quit with Champix almost 3 years ago now. I got the same sort of grief from him. Well how much does that cost? Your ordering again??? That kind of crap. I just pulled out the bottom drawer of our vanity and showed him all his "failed" attempts.... a pack and a half of patches, a couple packs of gum, a bottle of that other drug (can't remember the name) and half a bottle of champix (though he only needed half to quit)... I then said, yeah, how much did THAT cost? He hasn't bothered me again since. ;)

in the long run it will be cheaper..
510 kit 35$ 30ml bottle 10-20$ that could last you a month or 2
the next month maybe only spend 30$ for a extra atty and another 30ml bottle..

doctor visits for cancer cost a lot too.. so even if it cost double it is cheaper than the hospital

you can also buy it as 2 attys and a passtrough.. will run around 25$ then the attys come with blank carts so do one of the mods posted on here for a plug and fill with liquid..

and if you want to go as cheap as possible get a disposable. there is some cheaper 20$ kits also but from other posts they are not worth buying..

Thought I'd leave all you kind helpful folks an update!

Went to the mall to the Smoking Everywhere kiosk and tried out the demo battery. I have no idea what it was, the attendant didn't know as much as I do already so...but at least I got a few puffs on the thing. It was a high strength cart. So I got a chance to handle it, take it apart, hit it a bunch, just generally get a bit more familiar with it.

I discovered that 1) it didn't have enough vapor 2) the throat hit was really weak 3) I didn't care about the size but I hated that it looks like an analog 4) It had an exposed wick 5) the flavor, even though it was tobacco flavor, was pretty weak and didn't bother me.

For some reason I'm turned off by the 510's. The JOYE is cute, but I think I want a DSE-901. So I did a bit of shopping around, many of the recommended suppliers are out of stock.

And where did I see that coupon list?

My hubby finally decided its my money and he doesn't care as long as I don't smoke it in the house. He's under the impression that I'm trading one bad habit for another...and he thinks if he "lets" me smoke in the house I'll be more likely to do it more often. Totally true, but at least I won't have to open the garage door anymore. :D Plus its my house too and once he gets a feel for it I think he'll loosen up a bit.

So...wheres that coupon list again? I wanna order TONIGHT! Oh plus my sister and I are going to order together and split a kit...that'll save me some dough if it doesn't work out. I realize we'll have to order a couple extra parts but at least we'll save on shipping!

Depending on where you buy, you can get a one ounce bottle of eliquid for roughly $15. If you figure an average of 3ml a day (since you don't know exactly how much you will use yet), that's ten days of vaping for $15. You'd have to be a really light smoker to spend that little on cigarettes.
3ml a day of liquid is on the high side of the general average, which is about 2-3ml per day.

I was a light smoker too, having on average somewhere between 3-10 cigarettes per day.
I use far less than 1ml per day of juice.

IF #1 and #2 is important to you:
I discovered that 1) it didn't have enough vapor 2) the throat hit was really weak 3) I didn't care about the size but I hated that it looks like an analog 4) It had an exposed wick 5) the flavor, even though it was tobacco flavor, was pretty weak and didn't bother me.

Then you might want to reconsider this:
For some reason I'm turned off by the 510's. The JOYE is cute, but I think I want a DSE-901.

Consider splitting this kit with your sister (you'd need one quick charger also). The battery will last you all day as a light smoker.

I was pretty sure it was. I'm still really new at this and can't tell you how much I use in a day. I see anywhere between 1ml and 5ml on here, so I've been using 3ml as my "probably worst case scenario" for my own computations since I've been a pack a day smoker. On the bright side, if one errs on the high side, it's a *pleasant* surprise when one is slightly off, and it still shows significant savings over cigarettes. :D

@ Kent C:

This is a nice looking pv...but I'm trying to get a scale on the size. It looks MUCH bigger than an analog...I'm not sure I'm ready to go that size yet. I'm assuming you've got one and you're recommending it for its vapor quantity and throat hit? Can you post a photo of it in your hand, by chance?

Thanks for the recommendation!

Technically, it is a 510, albeit one with a sleeker look and a battery on steroids, so it does have both good TH and vapor. I have an eGo (same device, different seller) and it's about as tall as a 100 cig, and the diameter of the battery (about half an inch) is not even as big as a dime. It's really not that big.

The original point was to reconsider the 510 on throat hit and vapor (what the 510 is mostly known for at the 'mini level' of ecig) vs. the 901. But the Tornado which uses the 510 atomizer is about a 1/4 inch longer than the Joye 510 and the diameter is greater because of the better battery. A Joye 510 battery will give you about 1.5 to 2 hours before recharging. The Joye mega battery (which together is longer than the tornado will give you about 3-4 hours and the Tornado will give you 6 heavy vaping and some have reported all day for lighter vaping.

Here's a video:

Some pics I found:

And there's no limit on posting here... see my posts ;-)

And if you decide to check out the 510, here's a good place at a good price:

http://www.cignot.com/product_p/kit-510-nbx.htm

If you split up that starter kit all you'll need is another charger. And many of the 901 kits come with only one atomizer but from what you've written - about knowing that you'll have to get extra stuff, I'm assuming you knew that already. Most 510 kits come with 2 batts/2 attys, iow 2 full ecigs... but one charger.

What Kent said. :)

901 gives good flavor but 510 gives more throat hit and seems more reliable. 510 atomizers are generally cheaper and definitely easier to find on sale.

A beginner won't go wrong with Cignot:

Joye 510 No-Box kit for $35.

5ml sample-sized bottles of eliquid for only $3. Try several flavors without spending much money, and get them together with your kit to save on shipping.

I have tried the VG versions of:
B&H (mild, good tobacco taste)
USA Mix ("Marlb", popular flavor with new vapers)
Turkish Tobacco Blended (strong and earthy)
Winston (closest to cig to me, slight ashy taste, good throat hit)

I've ordered from them numerous times and never a problem. Terri and Vicki treat you right.
