I've been having another round of "the drowsies" where I am a zombie in the mornings. And it goes on sometimes to noon. Always was slow to wake. Slow metabolism I guess? But this? It's ridiculous.

Suddenly occurred to me one thing that used to get me outta bed: that first cig of the day. I'd drag myself outta bed, half dead, and lumber my way like a hollyweird zombie going, "smooooooooooooooke.... smooooooooooooooooke". vaping don't seem to do that. Nor does it seem to wake me up the way cigs did.

It's worth spending as much as my grocery bill and risking lung cancer to be more productive first thing in the morning ain't it?

Hm...

Hard choice huh?

NOT.

Heh, I sleep a little too well since I got of the death sticks. Apparently, I've gone back to a thing I used to do around college days of being able to shut the alarm off in my sleep. I remember trying everything back then. Even putting the thing waaaay up on a shelf. Didn't work. I woke up with it back on the low shelf. Caught myself finally, half waking up, tugging the cord to pull the alarm off the shelf, catching it, turning it off, and putting it back on the low shelf.

And I am no where near that coordinated when I'm awake. I'm a klutz. I'm lucky I don't break a bone walking down a hallway sometimes. Stub my toes so much, I'm considering steel toe boots for "house slippers".

How the heck did I do that stunt? Wonder if I'd been good at sports in my sleep?

I dunno what all is in modern cigs but there must be other components that are addictive. I have a strong, strong nicotine addiction but I don't get nearly as powerful an urge to get up and have that "first vape". I go straight for the PV when I get up, even before the coffee, but I can be laying in bed, thinking, "wake up already, you can have coffee and vape!" and I think, "mmmm.... nice... zzzzzzzzzz"

Man, if I wasn't doing the "home office" thing, I'd be in trouble. I'd have to carpool or something. I wouldn't try to drive before noon. I'm pretty sure I'm not good at sleep driving.

(At least, I don't want to run the experiment)

This stuff is unreal. I have not gotten such a high quality of sleep since, quite literally, my college days. And I'm 51. This is amazing. Annoying I'm going through a "sluggish for hours" phase at the moment but holy smoke Batman, I would never have believed I'd sleep as well at this age as I did at half this age.

You know, the "health advocate" types should be crowing about vaping from the rooftops. Not threatening to take it away from us. Hell, let's subsidize it! Get every smoker we can grab to switch. The lives we could save are... cripes... hundreds of thousands?

In the mean time, anybody know what the heck it was in cigarettes that woke me up in the mornings? Maybe I could find it at the Walgreens?

:)

So you know about caffeine, right?

That's another thing that's "not since college". I have always had a high tolerance for caffeine. When I was young, it was insanely high. Full pot of full strength coffee, I could go take a nap. I could drink coffee all freaking day long without any noticeable effect. Or drink none with no noticeable effect. I overdid it one time during finals week and had a weird "stimulant psychosis" as they call it. Half my brain was convinced that if I fell asleep, I would die. It was bizarre. I was aware of how nutty it was. But I'd doze off and something inside me would panic and I'd wake up suddenly because WAKE UP OR YOU'LL DIE!!!

Notice I said "doze off". I could still go to sleep. I just couldn't stay asleep because some part of my brain was flipping out over too much caffeine. But that was, like, a week of late nights and the grind they put you through during finals week.

I've got that tolerance back. I thought I was losing it as I aged and cut back to "half caf". But I had a pot of coffee this morning. It's 1:30 and I'm mostly alert but I could nap. Kinda want to. I've started making iced coffee for the afternoons so I'm getting over a pot a day. Pushing two pots a day.

Nuthin'. The "dragging" lasts about the same amount of time. I'm tempted to have no coffee tomorrow and see what happens. Bet it'll make no difference.

It's something else in cigs. I dunno what but something. I boosted my morning nic level and went back to full strength coffee and... nothing. It drags on long as wants to.

Now if vaping would just give me back my hairline and waistline from college days...

Have you talked to your doctor? Maybe you have a sleep disorder that a specialist could fix. I'm no expert in sleep by any means, but what do you have to lose? If you're waking up that tired, maybe you're not going into a deep enough sleep.

It's not "tired". I feel great. It's that "sleepy" you have when you first wake up. Unless you're one of those "morning people" in which case, I consider you a genetic freak.

;)

I'm not actually worried about it. Just kind of irritated. It's not been all the time, it comes and goes. This is only the second time since I stopped smoking completely that it's happened. Considering how much other crap is in cigarettes, I'm honestly not that surprised I'm having to "adjust".

I'm seeing my doc next week actually. Just a regular visit. I think it oughta be interesting. Haven't seen him since I quit. He had been needling me about the smoking. Wait'll he sees my blood pressure. I have a "home" widget (cast off from my elderly mom). It says I'm at 110/65. That's about where I stay now.

Honestly? I know I have a slow metabolism. Always have. Gain weight if I look at pictures of food. I know exactly what he'll say.

"You have a treadmill don't you?"

Many of those "symptoms" are normal for anyone that quits smoking cigarettes. There was a section in the Infozone here on ECF that listed some common side effects, but could not find it. You might check out the new members section. Fatique is common, depression, etc. It will go away.

If you do "need" that cigarette in the morning, to help, it doesnt make you a "bad" guy:) You might think about having a tank or extra whatever you use , set up with an eliquid that is just a bit stronger Nic to start the day. Maybe just a few puffs? Then use a lower one throughout the day, and lighten up later in the day or evening time.

This is a BIG change, and its easier for some and more difficult for others. DOnt let the countless posts of " from day one, with e-cigs I was changed forever" let you feel less proud.

just always look at it as how many you didnt smoke today, any reduction is surely a good thing.

We are kindred. High tolerance for caffeine and can't get by without the nicotine.

I still drink a ton of caffeine a day. And since switching over to vaping, I reinstated my habit of vaping in bed when I go to sleep, and first thing before I get out of bed. PV on nightstand, ready to go.

But I do wake up faster now (not as groggy in the "mornings") then I ever did when I was smoking cigarettes.

I have the groggies to. I am thinking about doing some anti-depressent type drugs. I have a few older co worker friends that said it was the best thing they have done. Felt much better. Just a thought if need be.

Heh, you wanna meet "groggy", think SSRI.

I've been on an SSRI for nearly 20 years now. But I remember the beginning. It was freaky. I had a mild depersonalization the first week that was really interesting.

Um... no, unless you're talking actual, serious depression (which runs in my family), I wouldn't go anywhere near the things. They work. But they're not kidding around. Manipulating neurotransmitters is serious business. Those things are handed out way, way too easily. One of the possible side effects of anti-depressants is depression. Including suicide.

Dunno what the heck this is. Just know it irritates me to no end. It's that pleasant "sleepy" feeling after you've slept great but you're still waking up. Except it drags on for hours.

Did this once before. Went away after about a week. Now it's back. Not as bad but really screwing with schedule...

I have had trouble waking up for a while now and I would sleep plenty I am already on Paxil for anxiety and my doctor told me that I might not be getting enough deep sleep. He recommended that I take a sleep aid like melatonin and that did the trick I usually wake up after about 7 hours of sleep now rather then the 12-16 that I was getting before and I feel better then ever.

I do not drink coffee however and my vape is in my hand when I fall asleep lol
