Many of those "symptoms" are normal for anyone that quits smoking cigarettes. There was a section in the Infozone here on ECF that listed some common side effects, but could not find it. You might check out the new members section. Fatique is common, depression, etc. It will go away.

If you do "need" that cigarette in the morning, to help, it doesnt make you a "bad" guy:) You might think about having a tank or extra whatever you use , set up with an eliquid that is just a bit stronger Nic to start the day. Maybe just a few puffs? Then use a lower one throughout the day, and lighten up later in the day or evening time.

This is a BIG change, and its easier for some and more difficult for others. DOnt let the countless posts of " from day one, with e-cigs I was changed forever" let you feel less proud.

Nah, it's not any kind of that. Not even one.

You know that "drowsy" feeling when you very, very, very first get out of bed? Not unpleasant. Just drowsy. And you wake up gradually as you get moving? Imagine that "just out of bed" drowsy hangs around. But for hours.

There has got to be some stimulants in cigs other than the nicotine. I get the nic. There has to have been something else in those blasted things that revved up my metabolism and I'm still trying to adjust to not having it anymore. This mess comes and goes. It's been lingering for about week this time. It's not even remotely unpleasant. It's just damn hard getting anything done in the morning!

It's like those little, happy good-morning Disney birds were hiding behind a haze of cigarette smoke all along.

I lol'd.

actually getting more then 6-7 hours of sleep is my problem now that i vape. its like my metabolism was turned up to 115% al of a sudden. if your still new to vaping it may take a while for you body to re-regulate itself as you clean out.

It's gotta be something like that. Even after months, my metabolism seems to take some wild swings. Like it's still seeking some kind of "equilibrium".

But I smoked over 30 years. It doesn't actually surprise me that adjusting to being without those things is taking some time...

(Still, had to rant, all week I've been running on essentially "half days". This morning, I just practically begging my brain to start. :) )

Sorry you're feeling so tired. The first couple weeks of being totally cigarette free, about kicked my booty (arg). I would juice an entire lemon into a glass of water, and chug it while waiting for coffee. If it was really bad I would do some liquid multi vitamins & trace minerals. I hope everything is ok with you, and you start feeling better soon :)

Tobacco alkaloids and all the junk like ammonia that they threw in to enhance the effects of the nicotine. I don't get that relaxed feeling I used to get with cigarettes (before I started doing RYO).

But as mentioned, some 36 mg first thing in the morning wakes me right up. Then I vape 6 mg the rest of the day.

It's not "tired". I feel great. It's that "sleepy" you have when you first wake up. Unless you're one of those "morning people" in which case, I consider you a genetic freak.

;)

I'm not actually worried about it. Just kind of irritated. It's not been all the time, it comes and goes. This is only the second time since I stopped smoking completely that it's happened. Considering how much other crap is in cigarettes, I'm honestly not that surprised I'm having to "adjust".

I'm seeing my doc next week actually. Just a regular visit. I think it oughta be interesting. Haven't seen him since I quit. He had been needling me about the smoking. Wait'll he sees my blood pressure. I have a "home" widget (cast off from my elderly mom). It says I'm at 110/65. That's about where I stay now.

Honestly? I know I have a slow metabolism. Always have. Gain weight if I look at pictures of food. I know exactly what he'll say.

"You have a treadmill don't you?"

I find that when I'm low on vitamin B I feel more sluggish all day long. Ask your doctor if you can take some high strenght B complex, specially vitamin B1. Sulbutiamin (a B1 derivative that is related to neurological slugginess) is also in order...

I agree with the others, see a doctor and get your blood chem done.

That said I am a slow waker upper too. Now what nicotine does to get you awake is first cause the liver to release glucose, and that increases adrenaline. At fist, once I knew that, I figured my sugared coffee was helping, but with some trial and error, any sugared beverage, even w/o caffeine works to get me going in under an hour.

My theory is that the nic delivery from vaping is simply too slow to trigger enough glucose to get our adrenaline up to waking levels fast enough but fine for holding it once we get there so, have some sweet tea or kool aid in the morning and see if that helps.

And soon as I rant about it, it starts going away. This morning I was out running errands. Not "crack of dawn" but not noon either.

It's really odd stuff. Like my metabolism is struggling with having some stimulant yanked away all of the sudden and trying to seek a new equilibrium...

Actually, if you're getting truly healthy sleep, you should wake up after about 8-10 hours feeling like springing out of bed. You should probably see a sleep doctor. I'm a complete zombie when I wake up for hours, no way I could drive, and I always get no less than 8-10 hours of sleep. But I'm very aware that I toss and turn every 10 minutes in my sleep; it usually wakes me up that often too. I once took a couple of my friend's "tylenols" (tylenol that starts with an X if you know what I mean, not promoting it, it's just the truth) and drank half a beer. The absolute best sleep I've ever had in my life, woke up feeling so healthy and energized only like 8 hours later.

You mean that's not normal?. LOL. I've been like that my entire life cigs or no cigs. I'm literally a zombie for at least an hour or two after I get up.

By the way thanks again for all of your help and info, I'm still at it and making some pretty good progress. I'm down to two cigs a day, or at least I was as of yesterday, I haven't had today's morning smoke yet, haven't wanted it.

Oh yeah, that's the normal I wanna get back to! :D

There ain't no such thing as "morning people" in my family. Mornings, growing up, it likes The House Of Zombies. It's some metabolism thing. None of us wake up quickly. Well, at least not without a major adrenaline rush. When I lived in LA, a 5+ earthquake could wake me up kinda fast. :)

Glad I could help. So many helped me when I got here, I try to pass it on.

And not wanting that "first one in the morning" is a big milestone. Even if you gave in soon as you typed that. :)

(No, seriously, sometimes, posting on ECF, talking about smoking, the urge would get to me. Got over that in time but sometimes it really irritated me I couldn't talk about quitting smoking without ending up wanting to smoke!)

"First in the morning" with me took at least a month to go. But, one day, a cigarette with coffee actually sounded repulsive and I grabbed the PV instead.

I think that's got something to do with my extended "drowsies". Slow metabolism. Always wake up slowly. Always have. So does everybody else in my family. Gotta be some stimulant in cigs that isn't the nicotine (I'm getting that) which I was used to forcing my metabolism to speed up. Then I went and yanked it away.

I'm sure I'll level off in time.

Next big fight is the weight. Oh. Goodie. I'm prone to "stress eating". So after the storm, I ate pretty much non-stop for all of 2006. Then I finally got things wrapped up in New Orleans and moved. Then the economy tanked. Then... then... then...

And I used to be in pretty good shape. Now, I'd be afraid to go the beach. Greenpeace might try to push me back in the water...

I have been a night owl my whole life, never been a morning person in any way, shape, or form.
In fact, I don't like morning people, and don't want them anywhere near me.

It takes me about an hour to wake up, which sucks when I have early meetings.
(NOTE: I also work from home)

I am also fairly immune to coffee, just like you.
I can drink a cup of strong coffee and take a nap right afterwards.

That first cigarette of the day did do something that woke me up more than vaping does.
If you figure out what that is, please let me know.

Heh. If I find out what it is, I'm gonna bottle it and sell it!!! :D

A couple of years before I started vaping, I developed a secondary addiction to Starbucks Frappuccinos to get me started in the morning. By the numbers it has less caffeine than brewed coffee, but I get the "kick" I need without the jitters ...

I guess everyone has to find their own personal chemical balance by experimentation. But if analogs did anything for me in terms of waking up, I never noticed because I was pounding coffee first thing and throughout the day ...

Keep waiting for the other show to drop after 3 months of vaping, but so far all of the side effects have been positive. No more chronic bronchitis, my dentist is delighted with the lack of yellowing, and like many others, I seem to have developed a mild aversion to cigarette smoke ...

Watching old Westerns from the 50s and 60s, like The Rifleman and Gunsmoke, in the morning wakes me up just fine, but that might not work for everyone ...

I tell ya, much as I get irritated when the "drowsies" roll in, the sum of the "side effects" has been trivial compared to every "quit" attempt. Those were freaking nightmares. Zyban especially. I actually started having mild hallucinations. Dunno if they would have gotten worse, I stopped taking the stuff real fast.

(Though one was kind of entertaining at least. My bed was surrounded by invisible aliens. My brain insisted they were there. I'm thinking, "I can't see anything, what the hell are you on about?" But some part of my brain was freaking out because THEY WERE RIGHT THERE!!!! It was very weird. Called the doc first thing in the morning and said, "Um... this is not working out.")

Did notice myself in the glass of the grocery store this morning and think, "Uh oh". Got on the scale when I got home. Yup. I been gaining weight.

That's the clincher I think. Slow metabolism. It's common as dirt in my family. My resting heart rate is down, my blood pressure is down, I really shouldn't be all that surprised. In fact, I'll take the blood pressure thing. Got a home blood pressure widget (cast off of my elderly mom's). Thing says 110/65. That's where I've been staying. Haven't seen that since my 20s. I can't complain. Hypertension is rampant in my family. My younger brother has been on pills for it for years now.

Already know what the doc would say. "Exercise accelerates the metabolism."

(I have to see him this week for regular stuff like the cholesterol. Another lovely genetic gift but that one's from dad's side of the family. Got get a new statin scrip. He hasn't seen me since I started the vaping thing. I wanna see how long it takes him to figure out I quit smoking. :) )
