My question to you guys, meaning all who have had Switch issues, have you removed the switch unit and verified with a multimeter that you do indeed have a short in the switch? Meaning that with the switch assembly out of the protege you show continuity between the top connector pin and the bottom connector pin without depressing the switch button?

Yes, I checked that after verifying that the post wasn't making contact with the switch housing. Several times. lol.

Multi-wha??? You gotta be kidding. I'm not an electrician, and hope that's not a prerequisite to vaping.

The Protege is a drip-friendly device, all closed up so that the juice can't leak into where it's not supposed to go, right? I took the switch out so I could send it back to PureSmoker. It's all packed up and in the mailbox. I didn't notice any liquid on it when I wrapped it up.

Canceled my Protege order as well. This one was for my father in Russia and it would be a hassle to be shipping it back and forth from overseas if the switch would fail.Ordered the Chuck instead.Never heard anything bad about that PV.

On the other note, PS has an outstanding customer service, the ticket was answered first thing Monday am.Props for that!

No, I'm just asking those people who might have checked those things what they observed. Anyone can use a PV.

I'm just an electronics buff and I hate a mystery when it comes to an electronic device. It's a curse sometimes, but it does come in handy. When you are in the middle of nowhere and your ham radio breaks, you don't call a radio tech, you fix it.

I forgot to mention that you did help by answering that one question. That's the kind of info I want.

Ok, one more question. Have you ever noticed nic juice leaking past the adapter into the area of the switch?

Kevin

No, the back of the adapter has always been dry. I don't drip, so there's usually only a smidge to clean up on the atty side and you'd really have to look to see that. The adapter is very tight - no wiggling.

Well, nothing else obvious comes to mind. I sure hope your luck changes soon.

Kevin

Thanks Kevin :)

No big deal at this point. Probably just one of the phenolics that will keep showing up as strays now and again. Hopefully that's the only real problem with these switches. Steve's got the tact switches up on the site now, so I can add a couple of those to my next order, just in case.

I happily vaped 510 standard batts for many months - I'm sure a week without a Protege won't kill me.

It might hurt like hell though ;)

i think it's entirely possible to make a mechanical switch in the space provided by the switch housing on the protege... think solid bar from positive to middle of adapter, with a wedge cut out of it, a spring under the wedge that is under the existing top hat part of the button... tiny parts but it's only something to complete the circuit.

or (easier to draw than to explain.... pardon my cheesy drawing...)

Doesn't look hard to make. Maybe put delrin on the ends of the bars to insulate the spring.

I'm trying to figure out what your point is here. You can go over to the modders forum and get all kinds of ideas on how to make a PV. That has no relivance here though.

You guys do know that PS doesn't manufacture the switches? They do manufacture the delrin housing and the button actuator. The switches are manufactured by a 3rd party, more than likely residing in China.

It's a shame that PS designed and manufactured every component on the protege except for the switch. So his protege is being dinged for failures of the only component they did not make.

Has lots of relevance here. As you point out, the switch is not made by PS. This isn't an attempt to design a new mod. them0nk was just sharing an idea he had to use the existing design of the Protege, but with a simpler, more reliable, made by PS switch. Steve can look and decide for himself whether it's workable, but there's no harm in sharing an idea.

As for the "protege being dinged for the failures of the only component they did not make," they did choose the component and then sold them. Gateway didn't make the ON button to my computer, or the mobo for that matter, they just assembled it all and then sold it to me. What's your point?
