i'll look into it actually, been dabbling in autodesk inventor lately... if i can ever get off work a reasonable time to design something in more detail, with real world numbers i'll do so... i'll try to make it as super easy to manufacture as possible too.

i dont want to step on toes. even if i designed it to work with the protege i wouldn't go market it. i'd hand the drawings over to PS, and they could use them at their discretion...

btw thank you lotus...

i was typing out that forum post when i had that idea and had to jot it down in a hurry... maybe this weekend i can get real measurements of the length and diameters i have to work with in there. (time to dust off my calipers & micrometers, i almost miss using those REDICULOUSLY overpriced but also priceless tools... hahaha)

ok... i stayed up late and messed around with it....

all it needs now is the contact button (which i left out cause i didn't want to cover up the innerds...

you can see that the spring is in it's own cavity, no shorting it out on anything or coating it.

would be pretty simple to make... 2 pins machined for the flats ( brass peices ) Funky houseing (no funkier to make than the original houseing), the spring, and a brass inner button.... a little glue or something to hold together the none-moving parts, voila.

i made the drawings as close to scale... my darn calipers have dead batteries haha.

*** i really really hope casey & steve see this... this is actually a sweet idea IMHO... steve if you use Inventor i can shoot you the files just PM me or email me.

what do you guys think of it?

How do you insulate the brass from the aluminum/stainless?

the brass tips in the drawing are touching the positive end of the battery, and the atty adapter... the housing (shoot me for this-it was getting really late) is supposed to be black... i just didn't change the material in the drawing (to delrin or rubber... i would think since the spring touches against it, the material would have to be a harder plastic or something, still mold-able though)... i was just showing the concept more than anything.

just for $#!ts and giggles i'll fix that when i get home and finish the button. i think a 2 piece button is necessary to make sure that when you're pushing the button you're not shorting it out with a metal button...

when i get home tonight i'll finish it up and make a cool assembly drawing :p

if i get more time over the weekend i'll find a real world spring that would work and better measurements on it that would be manufacture ready.

ps. all my ideas, rants, etc seems to always be late in a thread and get buried... and PS doesn't respond to them. they call me the thread killer. (haha)
