What adorable girls Tracy! The new peepers really look great on Maddie 
Mine are a smaller oval (maybe my head is just bigger lol) but a lavender color like hers. The blue frames in this pic I've had for about 5 years...the pic was taken a little over a year ago. My hair has grown quite a bit longer since this one was taken. ETA: Oops, those are my maroon computer glasses, but the blue ones are the same style.

When the optometrist (sp?) finished fitting her with the new glasses, she promptly had a melt down by taking her glasses off and sunk to the floor, folded herself in half face first into the carpet in protest of the new ones! (OMG!) She "wanted her pink ones!" I don't tolerate brattiness, so this wasn't a full fledged bratty fit in public (nope, won't have it) but a funny little act of disapproval. hahaha KIDS!!!! The optometrist laughed right along with Lauren and I.

I don't blame her. It's frustrating to lose something you really like. I felt like that when my Dr. said something about glasses. I only need them for this eye he's working on but I didn't get them. I could take a contact but no glasses. Maybe next time I'll fold up on the floor like your daughter and then he'll understand I won't wear them.Thanks Fran, Bov and 5c! LOL 5C! I feel nekkid without my glasses since I've been wearing them since I was about Maddie's age. I tried contacts when I was in my 30's but I have multiple issues that contacts couldn't correct back then. I'm nearsighted so I have to have correction to see at a distance, and I have astigmatism so everything looks furry and blurry without correction for that too. Of course now I am getting the old age eyes that need reading glasses!
Maddie has ambyliopia (SP) which she inherited from her Daddy. She is very farsighted (but that has gotten better since wearing her last prescription) and she also has astigmatism.
She may need to wear glasses for life, but we are not sure yet. It's ok if she does though, because she's so good with them.

I had surgery when I was 7 to cosmetically correct my strabismus Strabismus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but I still have the depth perception issues. The surgical technique is much better now than it was back then, especially on the up and down muscles. When I get tired, my right eye will stray out of line a bit still. Being born that way, I have no idea what true depth perception is, I learned to adapt naturally and it doesn't effect my driving, thank goodness.

Bo's eyes were never treated and he now has 20/400 vision in one eye, or in other words practically blind in that eye. He has adapted to it, never knowing any different.
I noticed Maddie's eye beginning to cross when she was about 10 months old, was perfect up until then. The doc said when one eye is looking at one object and the other is looking at another, the brain will shut off sight to one eye which makes sense (unless you are a fly!) and without treatment that's exactly what would have happened to my baby girl. So glad I caught it early!!!

Yep catching it early is best. The easiest way to explain it to someone for me is to just say that my brain uses one eye at a time, switching between the two when one gets tired.

Hubby is farsighted. He uses over the counter reading glasses to see to read anything. I'm nearsighted and have had to wear glasses for distance since 16. I only wear them for watching TV and such.
