Hey, so I got a Phoenix XL (original) in the mail today, wired it up, and hard short. Probably in the stem; but I don't know. Has anyone taken one of these apart? In this version the cup is solid (neg.) and the post post (from top view) has an insulator rim around it's base. Meaning, its not like my Bulli clone, where the pos. post is a solid part of a platform in the cup.

I think I've got it figured out. I did get it taken apart; but the problem wasn't hiding in there. As best as I can tell, The interior diameter of the neg. 510 connector collar is too small. The opening that the pos. pin is in is no bigger than a standard pos. post on a battery/mod/device. (And the pos. on the atty's 510 connector is actually recessed.) So my atty's 510 neg. collar is touching both pos. and neg. on my device. Thanks Eshots! (← o = i). Is this why we don't use just any old battery? Man that thing was getting real hot, real fast.

Just a quick note to clarify. That ▲, I think was my last stab at ss mesh. Just don't care for the stuff anymore. Re-wicked last night with a braided ceramic rope u-wick. The ss just doesn't feel good to my body anymore. It leaves me profoundly thirsty, and the back of my mind says not to use it.

I was interested in trying one out-I'm new to rba's and was wondering if the hard short was caused by stainless steel mesh? Would I have these issues if I used silica? Thanks!

I own a Phoenix xl. It's one of my favorites. I use silica only. I can't vape ss mesh atties. Even with a perfect setup with no shorts, I get splitting headaches.

Hey. This was a problem specific to the atomizer itself. It doesn't speak to all the Phoenix atomizers; but I know of at least one other person who had the same problem. With the phoenix I had in my hands, you would have this problem without even a wick or coil in it. Some part of the positive assembly (post to 510 connection) was contacting the body of the atomizer. So, direct answer: YES, it would have had a hard short even with a silica wick.

thanks for the reply - so it was a manufacture defect? - did VB replace yours?
