Has anybody experienced any side effects from vaping?

vaping 6 months or so now, mostly just symptoms that seem to be dehydration related. Soreness in my feet and ankles, dry eyes and contact lenses, and some tinnitus (Ringing in my ears) that seems to come and go.

I was notoriously bad about drinking water before, and do my best to remember to do it now, but old habits die hard. Best advice for new vapers health wise, get your water intake up, your body needs it.

Two and nearly half years in. 18mg still. No side effects other than despising the smell of tobacco now. Had two run ins with vape mouth ... Mehh it went away after a few days. Seem to have PG issues so tend to use VG heavy liquids. Altogether probably one of the best moves I have made.

Quick questions: are you sensitive to throat hit? I'm just wondering if sensitivity to TH could be an indicator for sensitivity to PG.

Sorry for delay Torch, i'm just reading this now! I'm not particularly sensitive to throat hit - i've always associated my throat sensitivity with too high nicotine, but some people do get a scratchy throat. If you get a peppery sensation that also is likely nicotine. My sensitivity made me physically ill - unwell feeling in as little as 15 minutes at 70% PG, a cumulative similar feeling after about 2-3 days at 50% PG, and down to just irritation and dryness at 40% PG. A couple of hundred bucks later i found 0-30% to be not only irritation free, but my water requirements were next to none. I know of some people who get wheezy when they get close to all VG but i'm doing ok with it. You can try a lower nic and see if the throat thing goes away, or if you think it's PG related dilute one of your favorite juices with some VG. Maple Leaf Vapes sells very good quality VG if you need to purchase some.

For me, the biggest problem seems to be dehydration; for many years before I started vaping, I've struggled with dehydration, probably because of PG in my albuterol inhaler -- I always wondered why even when I went off the albuterol pills, I still got god awful leg cramps -- now I know, it was the Pg, coupled with the fact that I've been plagued by hot flashes for about 15 yrs, and that causes a great deal of sweating! Now I add the vaping to all that, and it's rather unsurprising that my body is showing actual physical symptoms of dehydration. Pity. I've always been vain of my slender ankles. Now I seem to have developed cankles. :( but I have substantially decreased my PG proportion in my ejuice, trying to drink a lot more water, and I take those time outs to elevate my feet. My mom says they need to be above the level of my heart to make the elevation really effective, but that's not easy when you have asthma, you're basically lying semi-upright but on your back, and that's quite problematic for me, it feels like there's an anvil on my chest.

Someone said something about sharp pain in the center of your chest -- I was having those for a while before I stopped smoking, but only when I was kinda stressed out in general, and/or overdoing the caffeine. I found it quite alarming -- my father had angina, and his father had multiple heart attacks -- but I'm glad to realize that I haven't had those since I left off the cigarettes! I hadn't even realized it till whoever it was said that about the sharp pains. I would definitely decrease the nic level! And the caffeine too, if that applies; I've heard round here that caffeine may have a greater effect on vapers.

Andria

I was having sharp pains in the chest and was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. The stomach gets pinched at the top into the chest cavity and of course the pain is right where you don't want it, right? If i slouch back in a chair when drinking something, it won't go down and i also get that anvil on the chest feeling for a minute until it passes. Bothersome but at least now i know what it is.

Yes, I agree; my son goes anaphylactic with *any* exposure to coconut. I don't vape a lot of flavors, and even if he was at home and vaping right along with me, he wouldn't *choose* coconut, that's for sure... but what if *I* was vaping something with coconut, and he just breathed it? The *slightest* exposure to coconut shuts his airway down completely. When he's at home, I can't even use coconut bath products or lotions.

From what I read, if the body sees VG as a sugar, that seems mighty problematic for diabetics. Most of the breathing issues I have are probably attributable to the fact that I have asthma, and smoked for 39 yrs -- 29 yrs POST asthma diagnosis. But how can I really know for sure? I do know that when MyFreedomSmokes ran out of the PG-blend Virginia and I had to vape their VG blend to keep the same flavor, I sounded (and felt) like a cat with a hairball, it just would NOT cough up.

I know that COPD and asthma are actually very different diseases, though they share many of the same symptoms; asthma is actually a spasm of the bronchioles; they just close for no reason that science can apparently figure out. COPD I think is either destruction of the alveoli or hardening of them, so that they don't actually work to exchange gases. I really have no idea how COPD would respond to vaping; if the person was a smoker, then switching to vaping would definitely be harm reduction, but I'm not sure that long-term vaping would be a good idea for them -- nor maybe for asthmatics either, which is why I reserve my options; right now vaping is saving me from cigarettes, but at some point down the road, I may need to give serious consideration to leaving off the vaping too. :(

Andria

I am diabetic and do not have any problems caused by vaping. I vape high VG, and Vegetable Glycerine is an approved sweetener for diabetics, as it has a very low Glycemic Index which is important for diabetics. I've been monitoring my glucose levels and all is fine. I also have a compromised respiratory system due to severe sleep apnea, and again - no ill effects. I don't have asthma thank God, but do know of two vapers who do - both use their puffer about 90% less now than when they smoked! One does has to change coils often but she is quite happy to do that compared to what smoking did to her!

A bit over three years of vaping for me, and so far no side effects.

... except one day when I started. A friend and I ordered around 50 juice samples together, and when our package arrived we tried them all out. We vaped and vaped and vaped until we both felt queasy. Lesson learned.

Long term effect... decreases chances of heart disease, lung cancer, multiple lung diseases, a few other things.... I'd rather vape than go back to smoking.....
Edit: oh side effects... yes, I can run up hills that used to make me gasp for air before... I feel much better, I can taste better, smell things better.... hmmm, yes it does work!

Sore lungs may happen.

I've been vaping 2 years and quite frankly, if vaping made my lungs sore, I would seriously considering finding another juice

and also probably getting a lung xray to rule out other stuff.

Sore lungs are not a good sign, and not at all normal.

My "adventures" over 2 years was killer leg cramps, (and I had never had a leg cramp in my entire life) and also some coughing.......fixed with reduction of PG and also reducing nicotine and juices that had cinnamon, which for me was a lung irritant.

I think I'm at almost 3 months vaping and am still experiencing some awful acne issues on my face, back and arms which are coming and going. I'm attributing this to dehydration though. I also experienced a few days of insanely itchy skin EVERYWHERE but from what I've read this apparently has something to do with an increase in bloodflow to the skin which irritates pain receptors - so technically that's kind of a plus. Certain juices have also caused tight chest sensations/shortness of breath. And like others have mentioned, getting way too vapor happy and then nausea. :glare:

I enjoyed looking through this thread. To me it shows that there should be a label on every bottle on what is in it. Also, does anyone know what kind of "clean room" policies there are? I don't. I am not at a stage to DIY e-liquid but I might in the future. There is one brand of e-liquid that is a 50/50 blend that I have no issues with. Another, one that I felt was good quality and taste, I can't use due to extreme dehydration. I look forward to the day there are across the board standards.

If it's clean enough to prepare food, then its clean enough for you to diy. Sell it? Thats different. Then you are looking at sanitization and sterilization of equipment. A simple pressure cooker will sterilize. (90 min @15psi) Dehydration comes with increased PG. Drink lots and lots of water and the dehydration will diminish in time.

This is my first post so bear with me. I read this thread to see if my side effects were common among vapors. I quit cigs the day I bought my beginner kit two months ago and have not looked back. I am enjoying vaping inside, not having an awful taste in my mouth and especially not having my daughter hug me without saying "You stink!".
I have had two side effects. The first is in common with a few in this thread, sharp chest pains. This was scary to me as I have had a triple by-pass, have congestive heart failure, have a pacemaker/defiblillator which has shocked me a couple of times, when I had what they call ventricular tachtacardia. Bum heart. I had some sharp pains across my heart after beginning to vape. Last week my cardiologist told me that nothing was showing up on the download of my pacemaker computer (amazing!). The pain has since gone away. ???
I have mixed emotions about the second side effect. I am using 12mg Reds 50/50. I am 67 years old and had been having some issues, how do I say this without offending, with regularity, specifically going every two or three days. When I first started vaping I started going two or three times some days. So I mixed some 12 mg with 0mg and it stopped. Anyway this morning it was past time a day or so, so I puffed 12mg from 8-10am. Sucess!
Sorry to be so graphic but I didn't read here where anyone else has experienced this. I'm not complaining. just trying to figure out how to regulate this. If you read this, thanks for your patience as I have rambled. Vape-On!

Just out of curiosity have any of you long term vapers experienced any side effects and how long have you been vaping?
That's why I'm here. I've been vaping 11 months and I'm experiencing atrial fribilation symptoms. Doctor told me it could be the nicotine and the way it absorbs in the body or something if that nature. We are not sure what is causing this but it's the only thing I've done different since smoking cigarettes.

I love vaping so much it bothers me to thnk I might have to quit. Brother, with the list of heart problems you have I would be vaping the lowest mg they have. I'm having heart issues ever since starting vaping but I can't blame it on vaping or the nicotine until we find out exactly if it is the culprit. I currently have a heart monitor on for up to 3 months if have to just to figure this out. IMHO vaping is not worth my life, if it is the culprit.

My only side effects I've had were from certain juices. They don't give me a headache, but a foggy type feeling. I simply throw them in the trash. Aside from that, my only side effect is a depleted wallet.

I've strictly vape only 6mg now and have some VG I picked up from CVS to dillute it further. It's cheap. Be warned though - don't get the ones fortified with vitamins.

This is what I've had. Zero heart racing or anything. It REALLY helps if you have those problems because you can reduce nicotine. Slightly reduces flavor, but not by much at all.

My son, almost 19 - very fit and athletic, no past medical issues - experienced chest pains, worse than angina and palpitations - as a withdraw symptom from cigarettes. He smoked for less than a year, and less than a pack a day. I smoked for 30 years, nearly 2 packs a day and did not have the stabbing chest pains he did. I did some research and found that this is indeed a withdraw symptom for some people. His pains went away less than a week after they started.

Disclaimer: I am not a medical professional. Anyone having chest pains should get checked out by a doctor.
