Has anyone ordered batteries from illuminationsupply.com?

The NCR18650PF you linked appear to be Li-ion type batteries, not the IMR safe chemistry which would be better for our application. The safer the better if you're going to be putting it up to your face...:)

Actually, the NCR are safer chemistry batteries and there are plenty of threads on them in this forum. I have the AW IMR 18650s for my Provari, but I use the pannies for my Man Cave Mod and I need a couple more for that.

Stosh, the Panasonic NCR18650PF are high drain hybrid batteries very similar to the Panasonic CGR18650CH which are highly regarded here. They have the same 10A max discharge rating.

Having said that, I don't know the vendor.

I just googled the NCR18650PF and a few places said they were Li-ion.... but 10A discharge. Guess I'm falling behind on the model numbers as I haven't had to buy batteries in so long....:)

I don't know about the vendor, but the NCR18650PF is a recent upgrade to the NCR18650PD Panny and Orbtonic batteries. They are a high-drain, safe-chemistry hybrid battery. 10 amp CDR. According to Thrasher, these have a couple hundred more mAH and chemistry to run cooler under stress.

I found it interesting to note that Orbtronic now has the following disclaimer, "Protected Li-ion 18650 batteries are made for high performance flashlights, not for e-cig mods."

the PF is a reformulation of the panasonic 2900PD and should actually be minutely better.

That's what I gathered from a flashlight forum. Slightly different chemistry to make them last longer (overall more charge cycles). I already have the PD version and they've been working great for the last couple of months.

the word I got from Sal at orbronics stated , a few 100 more Mah, a slightly better discharge curve, and better cooling under high loads. nothing drastic, but any performance gain is still a gain.

I have this feeling panasonic noticed the jump in vendor sales in the past 6 months and someone decided to check out why and noticed all the vapors using them lately and maybe gave a push to the engineering dept to give us what we are looking for. just a feeling.

I was just used to seeing them referenced as LiMn or LiFePO4 in the specs to differentiate....
Tech info goes out of date so fast......

That's for sure! Plus the whole li-ion vs IMR vs ICR vs protected vs non-protected vs my dinner tonight thing makes it hard to keep track of anything.

Yeah, I like what I read on the specs and I've been getting great performance from the PD version. The price from this vendor is just a few dollars more per battery that FT (shipped), and they're based in the U.S. which is something I generally prefer if the cost difference is minimal.

Bad, I think you meant 'PD'. Just trying to keep more confusion from entering the pic here :thumb:

On another note, the whole thing about what something was originally designed for kinda leaves me a bit cold. I mean if it meets application requirements it's good with me. The issue here is safety and there's no way we're ever going to make batteries completely safe anyway. Just my :2c:

I believe that we'll be seeing safer and higher capacity batteries in the not so distant future. More funds are going into research for electric vehicles and solar/wind power storage technology these days, and all that research usually ends up in consumer applications at some point.
