More funds are going into research for electric vehicles and solar/wind power storage technology these days, and all that research usually ends up in consumer applications at some point.

on a side note:
Panasonic is one of the primary investors and suppliers to Tesla motor cars ;)

and they have also taken over Sanyo's battery division.

Pana have taken over sanyo everything, or at least any technology they wanted. The grabbed sanyo air con for tech a while back too.

Didn't I read somewhere that if tesla production increased to where they hope it will, the world is going to run out of batteries? :)
Not that I think they will ever sell 50k a year or something, not at their price and not with current battery technology.

They seem to have the best price for the Panasonic NCR18650PF batteries for a U.S. vendor (based in CA), but I'm always a bit cautious when it comes to battery vendors. Has anyone ordered batteries from them, and what was your customer experience?

Illumination Supply is highly regarded in the flashaholic world (ie CandlePowerForums), they are very trusted and well known.

Also I believe they are owned by the company that makes Redilast batteries.

I ordered my Nitecore charger from them. Fast shipping and no issues.

Thank you both for the quick vendor review! :)

I have also ordered many times from EDC+ too, which is owned by Redilast, the service is amazing and shipping is lightning fast. Located in Redding CA (which is where I think they got part of the name of their batteries).

Heck, a good portion of my LED flashlights have emitters purchased from Illumination Supply :2cool:

I just placed the order for 4 of the NCR18650PF batteries and the total with shipping was $34.06 (about $8.50 per battery), and they ship in free plastic cases if you order in pairs. That's only about $7 more than I would have paid at FastTech, and I don't have to worry about the HK post office delaying the package, so I think it'll worth the little bit extra.

I'll post back here when I get them (standard shipping).

I went to Illumination Supply to check out the batteries and got to poking around, they have the Nitecore Intellicharger i2 on sale for $11.99, mines ordered so you better hurry.

I was looking at the prices they had on chargers too, and they seem to be really competitive. I already purchased my i2 back in July, or else I would have jumped on that deal as well.

ETA: They also have the best price I've seen on the Pila IBC 2 bay charger at ~$40 right now. This is my primary charger and I highly recommend.

I ordered 3 PFs from them about 3 weeks ago. They're a trustworthy and reliable vendor. Great prices too. I've heard good things about their kimoko IMR batteries as well. They had my order shipped within hours of ordering.

As for the PFs, they're awesome. LONG battery life. I haven't used one all day exclusively, but in my rotation one will last 2 1/2 days. YMMV.

I found it interesting to note that Orbtronic now has the following disclaimer, "Protected Li-ion 18650 batteries are made for high performance flashlights, not for e-cig mods."
That is interesting. I am not sure whether to interpret that as a business attempting to proactively CYA with such a statement or if they are attempting to distance and disassociate themselves from sales to vapers.

If it's the former, I can completely understand it, will continue to rely on the insight and advice of those members here who I've come to trust, and will keep them as a vendor.

If it's the latter? That would be a shame and I don't know if I would give my business to an outfit that has taken an anti-vaping position.

Since I've had such pleasant and positive experience with Orbtronics (their site is excellent, their selection is amazing, their prices and delivery are wonderful) I am inclined to not assume the worst case and plan to keep them bookmarked. Until or unless I hear/see something that changes my mind.

Received the batteries I ordered over the weekend today. Did the cheapest shipping they had, so not bad. Batteries were packed as well as I've ever seen.

I didn't think to mention that but, yes, I was impressed by the packaging as well. Each pair came in a plastic storage box which was in a cardboard box surrounded by foam. Probably the best packaging I've seen for batteries.
