Who said "Anna for President"? Can I work the campaign? I am old and work cheap.

Also, communism, perhaps at its roots, could be considered an economic system.

I think the world has pretty fairly proved that you need people in charge to administer the "communism." People being who they are, well, I'm afraid there really isn't a communist country that is "doing it right."

Perhaps we could have the super computers administer the money but even THEN someone has to run, maintain, and add new folks/remove dead folks and so that is a human being, set of very powerful ones, and that makes my toes SQUIRM.

The fact that there is a fairly large faction of folks who think the MORE than money system of communism is a GOOD idea here scares me more than the idea of coming face to face with the holy ghost.

I'm not saying capitalism is the be all and END all but of the things we have to choose from I will TAKE IT and having BEEN UTTERLY poor on occasion, I am here to tell you there is enough of a safety net to get by, if you don't have 15 kids and 7 baby daddies, or if you aren't abusing drugs. There is enough of a safety net to get by, it's not easy, it's not fun, but it can be done. Life won't be all "Let's go eat at that great restaurant tonight!" But you CAN and WILL get your basic needs met (probably the most difficult being housing.)

However, there are some really horrible apartments out there that can be rented for little cost, you don't actually NEED the (equally horrible) public housing system.

Oh I've read it a couple times. It's no fun and also I wish they weren't all barnyard animals although it WORKS. It's just... PAINFUL is what it is. So is Farenheight whatever number I forget,

I984 gave me the absolute heebie jeebies, it continues to do so. It's really bad.

I am going to totally out myself as a nerd and admit that during the whole Dungeons and Dragon's phase, well there is this set of them where it's a futuristic world and the "Computer" gives you a mission, and you have to do it but the "Computer" is also a little bit... INSANE. SO you are trying to "Obey the computer" which is giving you horrible conflicting demands and abilities and it's fun NOT being the computer but it is also FUN being the Dungeon Master/Computer and I will admit that I can get pretty evil and irrational and that is the thing you want to BE in that game if you ask me.

There were times I had to tone it down a notch, just so we could get to part two of the mission. You know, be out of order. That's a random thing, not some playing stabbing the terminal. EVERYONE (after the first time) just knows that leads to possibly fatal but not always electrocution.

I don't know what that player was thinking other than "I hate ANNA." LOL Maybe.

“The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theater.” ― Frank Zappa

Read "Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley.

“There will be, in the next generation or so, a pharmacological method of making people love their servitude, and producing dictatorship without tears, so to speak, producing a kind of painless concentration camp for entire societies, so that people will in fact have their liberties taken away from them, but will rather enjoy it, because they will be distracted from any desire to rebel by propaganda or brainwashing, or brainwashing enhanced by pharmacological methods. And this seems to be the final revolution”

My favorite from Frank and the Mothers..."it can't happen here..." Well, seems it already is in a roundabout way, he was brilliant.

Nope. I'm sorry. Every time the topic comes up I have to say:

Ayn Rand was a romance writer and not a good one. Also, her shoving 40 unproofed and uncorrected bits of her undergraduate PhD thesis should not have been allowed. They are really dense (in all ways) and just ruin the "plot" as it were.

I realize some folks find that lady um, special, but her premise "capitalism is the GREATEST good" does not need 400 pages of explanation.

And I read that tome TWICE. TWICE because I was like sure "It couldn't be as bad as I remembered." OMG though I DO know that lady liked to smoke. Her most vivid writing came as she described the "Smoothest, best tobacco" with DOLLAR BILLS stamped in gold on it, given to it by her male romantic counterpart.

Some books stand the test of time, but at my college, we had a few randians and they were pretty much LAUGHED out of their fixation. I felt bad, but not really.

Also she accepted MUCH public help and funding to write her book and again at the end of her life. She's a giant hypocrite who needed David Foster Wallace's editor. He got rid of SOME of DFW stuff. That editor would have been like "RED PEN ALL THE WAY THROUGH."

Sorry, I just hate that book SO MUCH OMG.

And I even like TRAINS. She ruins TRAINS. That is REALLY hard to do.

I recall a specific part of Atlas Shrugged that kind of ruined things for me. The train lady (forgot the name) was dealing with the steel guy (Reardon?. The conversation was totally unbelievable to anyone who knew business people. Steel guy said he would sell her what she needed, and she would pay top price for it. She (train lady) said she would gladly pay the price. No way.

I did enjoy the book in spite of some of the details.

I enjoyed the most important part of the book. The punctuation. They should have just printed that part.

She is also probably the reason why the double space after like, the period has been REMOVED due to printing costs, and that is an UNARGUABLE sin.

Okay, I'll stop. I know that capitalists love romance novels too. I just wish she had done the sex scenes better.
