My husband and I have recently switched to vapes and we both found it very easy to do. I never thought I would successfully quit smoking cigarettes. I am amazed at this product and the ease of switching. I really enjoy it.
Without tons of research yet on this product, I am worried that it may come out later that it really isnt as life-saving as everyone initially thought. I wanted to quit smoking because I don't want to die from a smoking related death (among other reasons). I have only been on vapors for a couple weeks and am learning alot about them. There is still much to learn.
My question is- I have noticed that the wheezing I experienced while smoking cigarettes is still there when I smoke vapors (it happens during and after smoking- it's a noise when I breathe). I am definitely breathing better than before in general already- but I was wondering for those of you who have been doing this for a while, how you feel your health has improved?

It is part of your body trying to reject toxins from smoking. People have experienced different kind of withdrawal symptoms.
Such as phlegm , coughing, wheezing, insomnia, taste of food changing, gas, etc..etc...
That will go away in time.
Here his a link to CDC on this subject, but you may find there are many more opinions on the web.

And Congrats on your quitting and regards.

ADD: Have you read this when you have a couple of minutes: How to VAP ?

I quit cigs almost 3 months ago and I had the "stinky wheeze" too. Now it's completely gone. I can't remember when it stopped but probably when I stopped coughing up lungers. It wasn't instant though, and it took longer than two weeks I remember. Just keep hanging in there and soon it will be a memory.

1) (cop out on my part) it's a good idea to talk to your doctor about this also.
2) Nobody claims vaping is 100% safe. We all hope it is much safER! Every indication is that it's safer...harm reduction.
3) Existing conditions like asthma and/or COPD could factor into your personal experience. Allergies too.
4) That said, breathing generally improves. Oxygen is circulated better because there's no carbon monoxide also. Nic is still a vascular constrictor though.
5) Good points above about quitter's symptoms too.

So overall, I'm better off with vaping...and all IMHO. Saves $$$ too.

1. Your lungs will take a while to clear out. They were abused for a long time.
2. You may want to lower the PG of the juice. I find that when I use 80/20 it burns my chest but when I use 65/35 it is fine.
3. There is no long term study on vaping. I plan on stepping down the nicotine to 0 over time and just keep it around for stressful situations after that.

Hi and welcome to ECF and congrats

It's certainly much better than smoking and smoke related illnesses. I plan to stop vaping by the end of the Summer.
My question is- I have noticed that the wheezing I experienced while smoking cigarettes is still there when I smoke vapors (it happens during and after smoking- it's a noise when I breathe).
Within 48 hours the lung cilia that have been covered in tar and paralyzed from toxins (true fact) begin to regenerate. There are some symptoms when quitting smoking.
I am definitely breathing better than before in general already- but I was wondering for those of you who have been doing this for a while, how you feel your health has improved?
Smoked 1 1/2 PAD very strong analogs for 44 yrs and I feel great. Can swim in the Bay for 5 miles, cycle, participate in sports, etc. My Dr, Dentist and Surgeon are AMAZED at the improvement in my health.
Last yr had to move 100+ wheelbarrows of topsoil 100' uphill and spread it. Was done in 6 hrs and told my wife if I had been smoking would've been a 2 day job...also went to a party that night
You may want to join CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association They also have some very good info there.
Best of Luck.

Edit: As AttyPops said I always encourage vapers to talk to their Dr. regardless of whether or not they're supportive of vaping.

There are no clinical studies for long term e-cig use. The technology is relatively new. However, some research has been done.

Here's just about the best compilation of information we have regarding e-cigs vs. tobacco.

I think the best thing you can do is read up on some of the short-term studies that have been conducted and then make your own assumptions.

Personally I'm far more willing to believe that inhaling 3-4 food grade and FDA-approved compounds is far more healthy than inhaling: Cyanide, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide, methanol, acetylene, ammonia, nitrosamines (and thousands of other chemicals from real tobacco).

On the testimonial front I also feel that I've already experienced improvements to my health as I excercise a lot and have been able to push it way further than usual for this past week where I haven't smoked.

Again, studies are only assumptive as it stands now, so it does require some believing from your side until long-term studies have been conducted, but personally I do believe that if you keep on vaping, the health effects will become apparent.

Welcome to the community. :)
