The advantage is I don't think you can break one .Someone will eventually prove me wrong but it would be a rare case
As far as voltage drop I haven't tested it .I would assume there would be a slight improvement

These make pushing the button much harder these need time to break in a little

Gotcha!
I guess I'm not a button masher, haven't broken one yet.
Take it easy next week. Been through 3 repair ops myself.......
I have never broken a contact ether . The only way to break a contact is to use way to much force . At least there is a option for the heavy handed folks
I am taking it easy and will be until I feel better . I am all ready going crazy I don't do well staying put

Maybe take up macrame or crocheting - I'd buy a handmade reo cozy (woodvil 2015 size, please).

Anyone try the new Heavy Duty Positive Contacts yet? Have you had the opportunity to put them on the new SS 510 pin? I ordered 4 of them yesterday for both of my LP HammaTime Grands so was wondering if any of you ReoNauts have done this process yet and what the results were.

I hope tomorrow goes extremely quick and smoothly for you Rob as well as your recovery! We need the Squonk King, Better......stronger......faster, they have the technology! Seriously, hope everything goes quickly and smoothly for you!

I've broken 3 contacts in 4 Reos in about 16 months of heavy use. I use button top batteries and use Deoxit gold on contacts and red on batteries. I'm not a heavy button masher. I just replace and keep going. I just had Rob rebuild 2 of mine to the new 510 so will see how they hold up.

My brother in law had me install the heavy duty contact in his grand for him. For the first week he said it was a little harder to push the button, after that he said it broke in and had an easier time with it.He also uses a flat top battery,(which I advised him against) however he is having no issues...also, not as hard on the thumb if you have a button cover.

I have a friend I introduced to Reo's less than a year ago. So far she has broken two contacts. Denies being a "button masher" ask's me why this keeps happening to her? I sent her the link :sneaky:
They all deny it but its a fact if you break the contact your a button masher there are two many reos owners out there that have never broke a contact . I would say is a tiny percent of people that break them . So small it wasn't even worth making the heavy duty contacts . I did it anyway its just the way I am but when thousands of people use a product and never have a problem and then a couple constantly have a problem the hand writing is on the wall .

They're usually the same ones who complain that the button hurts their thumb.....

I should have mentioned please don't take it as a insult if I call you a button masher its not meant to be a insult . Some folks do it without even realizing some people get stressed and use to much force others have a low battery or a cruded up coil or haven't found the correct ohm that will last the day without noticing the voltage drop on there atty and its almost natural to want to push harder for more power . Not a big deal at least now there is a option for people with a heavy hand .

I have been only my LP grand for a week and it took me a couple of days to realize I only had to lightly depress the bottom. It was when I noticed the battery bouncing back up that I gave it any thought.
Ha. One way to figure out just how light a touch it really takes is to hold it up to your ear, depress the button just until you hear the sizzle, then make note of how little pressure it really takes. If the battery is moving at all, you're pushing too hard.

I know you already figured out, but it can't hurt to say it here for some of the new Reonauts who haven't heard it.

Never smooshed my button down enough to crack the contact. I did however try at 1:30 AM on Friday to install the new Supa Duty contact, welllllll...... I ended up breaking the thread off that the steel flow tube screws onto, I call it flow tube, don't know what else to call it. The steel thing with the hole in it that threads onto that thread thing that keeps the contact in place. So that steel flow tube and the thread are now together forever living by themselves.... So it is off to get fixed. So my other Reo has lost its sibling for now:cry:

Hope your resting up and healing quickly Rob!
