That was the handy work of my wife. She's a button masher, I see her do it all the time but no matter how many times I tell her she's doing it, she always denies it. Oh well, she broke my backup, I took her backup to use until mine gets fixed.

If you or your spouse are a button masher use an o-ring under the button cover. The o-ring will only allow the button to fire, not be mashed down too far. Just a thin o-ring like the one in the REO bottle cap. This works well on the standard contact.

Call me crazy but the first thing I did when I bought my first Reo was buy extra repair parts (rebuild kits, buttons, bottles, tubing, springs, etc.). I've never used them and now some are near useless since they are for the older style connector. Doesn't matter though, I learned from a customer of mine - when he was having trouble with his espresso machine he bought a spare control box and said "If I buy one, I'll never have to replace it. That's the cheapest form of insurance."
