I just went out and picked up some small earth magnets for my button-less 14500 imr(not aw) batteries. Yay, no more tinfoil to make the contacts in my charger.

Also my batteries now fit into my REO as an AW would. As a result my button action is very tight. I don't know if it's because it's not what i'm used to, but i am not loving it. I liked having to mash the button a bit further to make contact. The main reason being it was a lot easier to tell if my REO button had got turned a bit into the lock position by accident. Am i alone on this one?

My only concern is that the longer button action may be putting more wear on the contact, since it has to bend the metal further. Is there any danger of wearing it out because of the extra action required? Anyone had any problems with their buttons over time with the shorter batteries?

Thanks.

Hi Prim :)
Yes, some folks have had problems with this....but this is mainly due to button mashing. Often times, when the battery voltage drops, many of us subconsiously press the button harder thinking that it will work better. It does not. Mashing the button will wear out the positive battery contact over time. Normal pressure on the button doesn't appear to have an effect....I'm still using mini's from 18 months ago...and haven't had a problem with the positive battery contact yet. I am not a masher anymore, but I still find that I subconsiously hold my mod in a death grip.

Many people use the 5v batts that are a flat top in the grand with no stress related problems that I know about.

I don't like using magnets myself, I would rather push farther to the flat top batt. Magnets can move around and get lodged in there and possible fire the device without you knowing.

Of course the best solution is to get the AW IMR batts, they are worth the effort.

The mod is setup to use the aw imr .You can use other batteries but I don't recommend it .Its rare for a person to break a firing pin in a grand but I do see it on a cation in mini mods .This is from mashing the button Like Lisa explained. If you want the best experience with your mini I would get the aw imr bats or at least the aw protected 14500s
