I am a button masher. I solved my mashing using a suggestion from another poster - I wish I could tell you the name. I put an "O" ring under a button cover around the button and this limits the throw of the button. After some trial and error looking for the proper thickness, no more compressing springs from button mashing. I can push that button hard and this method keeps me from ruining the fire pin. I did note that each of the my Reo's took slightly different ring thickness.

I've never broken a positive contact on any of my REOs. I've been using them since October 2012.

It's not like I'm some brilliant genius either - I was fortunate to have learned very early on by the many helpful people here that only a gentle press is required. I am a ham fist but know that it only takes minimal pressure to detonate a REO.

I also have never run a button cover - I prefer the stock button. :)

Invention of the button cover gave birth to the start of button mashers!

Not really Rudy. There were a lot of button mashers that wanted button covers so they would not hurt their thumbs!

As far back as I can remember people were complaining about the hard buttons. Some were just pushing those buttons down as far as they would go with force!

The button covers make the button more comfortable for ones that mash and the ones that do not.

Once we learn how much of a push it takes to fire then it becomes second nature. At least it did for me!

I guess that I am the exception that tests the rule. I admit to being both an over squonker (founding member, Over-Squonkers Anonymous) and being a button masher. Top air flow fixed over squonking and the resulting leaks. The O ring under a button cover fixed the button mashing.
No puddles of juice or messed up pockets; no broken pins; Reo bliss all day long.

Funny how I viewed this thread last night and thought it was cool Rob now sells heavy duty contacts. So, this morning my wife says to me, the button on your Kawasaki green isn't working and is stuck. So I grab the mod, pull the door, pull the battery, and boom....broken contact. Good thing for backups cause it's gonna be down for a while until I can order new parts to fix it. I was also thinking, this might be a good time to send it back in and have the new 510 installed. I was thinking that in order to repair this problem, I'm gonna have to install a new center pin and tube and contact, so maybe it might be easier if I send it back and just have Rob upgrade it for me. Does anyone know how much he usually charges for new contact and new 510?
