That was actually where I had the LEAST difficulty in substituting vape for smoke -- after eating anything, the throat hit from vaping is SUPERB! I really thought that the after-meal smoke would be the hardest to get rid of, but it turned out to be the easiest. Maybe that was why I felt like, oh, if I can be happy with vaping instead of smoking, after eating, then I can be happy with it all the time!

For me, that first one in the morning was the most stubborn -- then I realized I wasn't "puffing" it correctly; half asleep, I was trying to vape the same way I smoked -- fast, hard draws, deep into the lungs. Once I figured this out, the very next morning I set about vaping with the long, slow pulls, letting it hang around in mouth and throat before any inhaling, letting it exhale very slowly via my nose -- that was my first smoke-free day, because that kind of "puffing" let me get enough nicotine to get satisfied.

ahah! I will try that tomorrow! I have still have 6 real cigarettes left, I have been doing great except for when I first wake up! I wake up I go make coffee and then I take my nice hot steaming strong coffee outside on my verandah and I take my first sip of coffee as I light my cigarette. This has always been my favourite time of the morning how sad is that?

Oh, also worth mentioning, I keep an unopened pack of cigarettes on my desk. Marlboro 54's, just like I used to smoke (2 packs a day for too long). They don't even make 'em anymore. It sort of stands as a testament to the fact that I truly have quit cigarettes.

Also if the world were to be ending, I'd probably light one up and drive headlong into the apocalypse.

Yeah! I haven't had a drink in 22 yrs... but if they told us a huge asteroid was about to obliterate life as we know it... gimme tequila! And beer! And white russians! Dry champagne! B&B! I'd be drunk as a skunk by the time that asteroid hit! :D

I also keep some cigarettes, my last opened pack, in a ziplock in my freezer -- it's my "no need to panic" stash, which allows me to know that my choice to vape instead of smoke is MY FREE CHOICE... no coercion, no pressure at all; there are cigarettes here IF I REALLY WANT THEM... but I really don't. :thumb:

Yeah, I'd get dressed, hit the kitchen, get my cup of tea started steeping... and hit the porch for that first one -- which always made me cough like an inpatient on the TB ward, but it got my poor asthmatic lungs awake! I struggled with that 1st one for 3 days, that was the only one I smoked all day -- till I realized that about how I was trying to inhale. Once I did the slow inhale/slow exhale, I felt perfectly satisfied enough to not go have that first one, so that became my first smoke-free day -- when I woke up the next morning, I already had almost 24 hrs smoke-free under my belt, and that was a great feeling, which I didn't want to mess up! :D

For several months, I vaped a stronger mg juice for the first hour or so... but this time around, I realized pretty quickly that I really no longer needed that. I'd had that month-long backslide, but it didn't seem to really sabotage me, once I got smoke-free again -- not smoking had already become as natural to me as smoking always used to be.

I don't know if it could be called cheating, but I didn't start vaping with the belief that I could actually quit smoking. First week I vaped I suddenly discovered that I had only smoked a few a day instead of 40+. I did that for a long time and finally just quit. It seemed dumb to keep on smoking a pack a week.

It's been 4 1/2 years. 4 1/2 years since I dropped the two PAD habit and 2 1/2 years since I stopped the 3 cig a day habit. I haven't wanted one since I quit.

I actually smoked a stick the other day... it's been 5-6 years since I switched to vaping.

I gotta admit, I still liked it... not enough to go back to it, but still enjoyable for me...

see I just want to hate it! it worries me that it is still so easy to enjoy. but that is where it comes back to will power or just enjoying that one at the right time.either way I dont think its cheating.

At the time I had my "back-slide", *everything* tasted so awful to me, after 4 days of no food/no vape, and damn little to drink that would stay down, the taste of cigarettes wasn't really that awful, but the smell, gad, I had to wash my hands and put on lotion THE MINUTE I came back inside. What really irked me was how fast they got their claws back into me, and that was how I knew, I better do whatever I can to get away from them again, before it gets any worse. After a month of the vaping in/smoking out, I was still at 5 cigs a day, but just said ENOUGH ALREADY, and quit again, mainly because I knew, with vaping, that I COULD.

I was clean for 5 years and recently cheated while drinking with a group of smokers. From there i would drink to smoke since it felt less guilty i guess. started to buy a pack and smoke 1 stick a day and realized i could go back to my old habits fast. decided to pick up vaping and it really gave me that fix. I really don’t want to depend on vaping either so i hope i can just have the vape for those times when i really really want a analog.

I agree. Not really cheating to me. I just smoked one because I felt like it. I'm a grown man, and if I feel like indulging a vice, I don't see the problem. I've got the will power to walk away and be satisfied with my vape... no need to feel guilty about it.

I've been vaping for 5 months. I knew after my first vape that i'd never want an analog again. It was that quick for me to stop after 42+ years of smoking. I made a very deliberate decision to try a cigarette once a month for the first 3 months. I had to force myself to smoke the whole thing each time. I did it to re- enforce in my mind how bad they taste, & how much they stink. I wanted that memory embedded in my mind so that I would never forget. I didn't do it because I was craving one, because I wasn't. Like I said, it was a deliberate, conscious act. And I will never do it again, because vaping works. And I will never forget how bad cigarettes taste & smell. Will I ever preach about that to smokers? No. I won't help them quit. I will, however, offer to let them taste my juice!

That was me! My favorite smoke of the day was the first one with my coffee, & outside, watching the world wake it. Now, it's my favorite vape of the day. Find a good flavor that works well with your coffee first thing, maybe a cereal, or muffin, cake, or donut type.

I have been vaping for about a year and i still bum the occasional ... from my co-worker they really don't taste all that bad but i just enjoy vaping more. I also dip occasionaly when i'm working and its hard to vape but this is only a work thing. You folks don't need to beat yourself up about cheating like others have said consentrate on the ones you haven't smoked. I recently got me a mech and i drilled out my nimbus and put a twisted 28awg kanthal A-1 10 wraps on a 1.5mm rod on the coiling gizmo and it has to be the best purchase i have made. The build came out to .4 ohms dual coil and i do have some safe batterys pushing this build very important. You fokes just keep on vaping and i wish you guys and girls luck. Moses

For me, 24mg juice was more than enough to get me off cigarettes. I didn't know that at the time, but vaping did distract me enough that I didn't realize that I had gone from 2 PAD to about 6 a day the first week (as I shared previously). I'd recommend that people let the vape take them down to whatever level is comfortable in the first few weeks and maintain that for a while. Drop yourself in stages until you finally give up all the cigs.

I think you'll find that it's easier than you think if you do it in stages. Once cigarettes are no longer a threat, work on dropping your nic in the same way. Go down 25% at a time and level out for a while, then drop again, until you hit your maintenance level. I stopped at 6mg just because the medical community says that a little nic is good for the brain.
