Don't bother...I tried that the other day and it didn't work but for the first drag, and then nothing. Mine shows an output of 500 mA so that is 1/2 amp.

There are 1000 mA in 1 amp. Mystery seems solved.

Hey hoog, what do some of the rest of the chargers say?

Other than the 2 amp AC to usb adapters we have, the others are 500ma. I've got a couple of dead 016 batteries that I'm going to test with different adapters tonight.. hoog

OK... After my road trip, it worked great till I got home. I charged it on my laptop all weekend, worked great. Never died.

Plugged it in when I got home. I awoke to no lights... Put a cartomiser on, worked for about 2 hours then, kaput. Came home from work, wall adapter will not work with any charger I have... Sigh. I hope the charger doesn't kill wall adapters, gonna try another tonight.

I'd guess if the charger was problematic in some way as to cause a wall adapter to die you'd see folks complaining it killed their computer or at least the computer's USB port.

Instead I think its just that there is a bad batch of wall outlet to USB adapters in the shipment. Those things are really cheap and made with I'd guess a total lack of QC to keep them so cheap.

I think you should probably bypass the wall plugs and just plug it into a usb.
My brother's wall plug only worked for the first charge and now he's using the usb to charge it.

I only tried my wall plug once and have recharged mine thru my laptop twice as of this morning just fine.

The output on my wall adapter is only 1/2 amp. It's just not built to do the job right.

Not hoog's fault in any way. He's not in control of what the manufacturer sends.

I'm sure he's in touch with them to get this rectified. That's how I've heard he rolls.

Yeah, he's keeping track and notifying manufacturer of the problems.

Edit: Er....I thought I saw him say it somewhere...now I can't find it, lol...but I'm pretty sure he is.

The manufacturer has been great with working on the problem and they've been reading this thread..

You guys, pegged it, seems the wall adapter may be underrated..

When you figure a 420ma output of the charger plus overhead, plus LED, seems the 500ma adapters may not be enough..

So the manufacturer is talking with the charger manufacturer to find a solution..

I'll let you guys know as soon as I hear anything and thanks for the input, it's been terrific with helping to resolve the issue..

Good thing is that it's not the usb charger part and that can work in a bunch of alternate devices.. :)

LOL! I have read all 32 pages of this thread with interest. I really appreciate you guys jumping though hoops to get the problems solved before I buy mine!

FWIW, USB ports are rated at 500ma and will shut down once you draw more than that. It's good that the USB charger is under that limit and allows you to charge the 016 from a laptop or desktop. The fact that you can charge successfully from the USB port tells me that the wall charger is not providing the rated current (we know that the USB ports shut down somewhere over the 500ma limit). A 400A wall charger should do the job and some of the chargers are working and others aren't. There's a manufacturing defect somewhere in the Ac wall charger.

I also appreciate Mark responding and working diligently to get the manufacturer in the loop and get the issues fixed. So many businesses nowadays seem to lag and not show the concern that Mark has in this matter. When I witness a business owner who responds to his customers in this way I am inclined to do business with his company. Kudos to Mark!

I will probably buy an 016 once I hear that all is well and the units are operating to spec. It looks like the optimal E-cig for me to carry out of the house and not have to worry about spare batteries and such.

The USB spec says 500mah max allowed on a port but like anything else in the real world that isn't necessarily what you get.

For example, if you have to power 3 ports you could just put 1 source of 1.5 amp and connected all 3 ports to that supply. It'd test to spec because you could put 3 500mah USB items in the 3 ports. But you could also put 1 1500mah device in 1 port with nothing in the others. That's why my cheap Dell laptop can power a USB passthru ;)

Or you can be closer to the spec and actually require no port to ever draw over 500mah and turn it off if it goes over. That costs more. My Mac laptop behaves that way.

So to summarize, if a device works in some computer's USB port you cannot make an assumption that it draws 500mah or less.
