I loved Computer Shopper magazine.....it's what influenced me or re-stoked my interest to get back into computers in the early 90's though it's always just been a hobby for me.

Did anyone else here go to the computer shows (like the Home shows now) where they rented out convention halls and had over a hundred vendors come in? I had a crap job back then, but I would save as much as I could and blow my entire savings at those events.

Yup! Then it got modern... Coogan fairs? Think that was the name.

Hmmm.....300/1200 baud modems.......up on compuserve at 1200 - find what you need and log off - get back on at 300 cuz it was cheaper to download at the slower speed / computer games were $40 - nearly a week's groceries  - solution, by the magazine with the programming in it and spend the next couple of weeks entering math strings.

When my son was in 4th grade his teacher called me - she'd entered a math string on the board and he'd gone up and solved it - she wanted to know why or how he knew to solve the math in parentheses first :p

Ok - feeling old now......

I never did the compuserve things. Instead I was on Prodigy for the news and discussion forums and later on Delphi for the ShareWare downloads. This was all before the Internetz were popular and these damn kids don't know just how good they got it! :D

I vaguely remember having to use the numeric address to get anywhere......oh! Mosaic! Now I really feel old.....and I remember some DOS too...which comes in handy on occasion:closedeyes:

We did prodigy too but compuserve was for researching for the kids' homework. It was better than counting on the neighborhood library having what they needed, when they needed it. It was quite handy.

I use the command window all the time at work and I still find it more efficient and convenient for certain things. I'm not a hater of the graphical OS anymore, but I'm definitely more keyboard oriented.

I hear ya. When windows first came out I didn't think it would survive  I mean really! No more .bat files?

Hmmm ... Houston we have a problem?...

I've been just chugging along and I just checked and see that I had (4) WU's in a row fail for some reason (1,3=0). I'm at work so I'll have to see what happened when I get home. Hope my babies are all right?! LOL!

Uh oh. I'm having problems with my system too. Working on my OC... Trying to stay close to 4ghz with hyper threading enabled but she just doesn't want to get stable. Thinking that's why my WU's were taking so long.

Right ... I would try and get a stable clock then lower my voltage until it would hickup, then do small bump ups and prime test each increment. Fun but tedious.

I've been vigillent with checking my proc temps and they all were reasonable considering 100% CPU load. (60 was max on one box and the others are low 50's). I was iffy about an older NVIDIA card I have that was running 73 from the get go. But I researched a bit and found they could handle higher temps. Maybe I had a fan failure on that GPU. It's old and not really practible for folding.

Now I gotta tell wifey it's time to build a new box. Heheh! I'm bad! ... Can't have a bad video card hunny buunch?! ... Guess I'll need a few things to update ... liiiiike a neeeeew ... (sabertooth motherboard, power supply, i7 hex processor, dual gpu's, mega ram and water cooling. whew!) Nah, the case is fine, Dear! :D

Ya I'm working on it. Got it to 3.8 stable but I know I can get it to 4ghz. Just need to keep it under 80c. Running prime now, stable at 4ghz / 1.25v. Seems like the qpi is being the stubborn part on this particular cpu. I may just cause it to melt down. That will justify me building a new rig, right? Lol

I think your voltage seems fine, but your temps are very high. Maybe reseat your cpu cooler and check both the surfaces for trueness. Reapply some thermal paste, reseat, and see if your temps drop.

I lapped a very concave processor once and it dropped the temps considerably. I don't recommend this, and only perform as a last resort. If you find uneven surfaces start with the proc cooler first ... cuz as we know "stuff happens"
