perhaps the video ram? i got a system right now the video ram died and it was doing weird stuff too freezing up and weird artifacts on the screen. it running an antique matrox card right now just to get it working but its so old there is no 64bit drivers and no support. stuck at 1024x768 as a standard vga and no gpu detected either so no folding on it...

I think it's more ram in mobo than anything else. Currently testing. It's either that or the cpu. So far the first stick has passed all tests five times. Think it's time to move onto the next. If nothing fails I'm going to eliminate my OC and see how things run.

I'm at the point of pulling my hair out. I cannot isolate the issue. I have my suspicions... but all too costly to go on a whim. I've been having random crashes on the Windows kernel and all of them seem to be memory related - but the memory checks out fine. Freezing in games, random components not working (onboard sound, onboard lan) so I am starting to wonder if its the motherboard as it happens even at stock clocks... what is it with me and motherboards? lol... sigh.

I'd choke you a little if you were near me... Just saying. Lol. I have $700 but anxiety about what to order... Idk, I don't want to bother with any of it to be honest.

I have a measly 12,000 points with TeamECF so far :p

I can't wait until haswell comes out so I can build a new desktop. Upgraded Ubuntu to 12.04.2 on the old computer (P4 2.8GHz, 512mB RAM (LOL)) and it broke the networking so I'm going to do a fresh install of Ubuntu and hopefully get F@H up and running on there as well. My laptop just isn't cutting it. @~2k ppd.

I won't give up. I've given up in the past... when my best friends dad died of cancer. I won't elaborate on my feelings but I ain't stoppin'.

So status update. New case, motherboard, cpu, ram, and router ordered. 4P motherboard should be here on Thursday or Friday, around the same time as the rest of my stuff... so that means busy night and angry gf~! LOL

After much anxiety I ended up ordering an i5-2500k. It won't be used for folding once I get the dedicated folder up and running and I'll probably just throw the GPU3 client on the machine to use my video card for a little added bonus (unless the electric bill is too high running both) and I hopefully should average 200-500k PPD once all is said and done. Kinda like that folder I pointed out a few pages back. It's been an expensive day. Spent around 2 grand just on electronics. Done for a while, my wallet needs a nap and I need a friggin' beer.

And for now... my system is stable enough to browse the web @ 55c. ...? lol... I don't even care anymore.

Congratz Ride!

I haven't used an "off the shelf" machine in about 10 years, so I know how your wallet feels Loft. It's funny in a sad kind of way that your GF is gonna be .........I'm the kind of gal who has always wanted power tools or computer parts for presents

Dusty, I'm not competitive so I'm not going anywhere. I'm just happy to be giving something useful, and watching Team ECF kick ...!

Don't forget sashwa.

The move went good but I just found out today that cable isn't available in my little mobile park. :( the cable guy is going to try to get it for me but has to get permission from the manager to trench though a couple yards in the park. That could take a couple days if she says yes. If she says no then I'm back to dsl which costs twice as much. :( So I have no internet except on my phone. I'm likely to lose the wu that started Sat. :( damn it!
