Learning how to use what you have is far more important than what you have. You might be amazed by what any of them are capable of if you take the time to learn.
IMO, most important is to NOT spend the family fortune until you know what you want from a PV/starter kit/or whatever.
So look for something like this
ElectronicStix.Com · Smok KEAR Beginners Kit
    or this
ElectronicStix.Com · SD KeyRing by Trog
    or even this
    ElectronicStix.Com · Kanger EVOD 650mAh Starter Kit
There are plenty of choices that work well for not many bucks.

I saw that, however I simply can't in good conscience suggest anything with that low a battery mAh. In fact the only reason I can suggest the little Keyring is because it uses a Lipo cell instead of Li Ion.

I can suggest that in good conscience, which is why I did. Ive used what I recommended, and he wanted a PCC as well - so he can charge on the go. He only smoked when he went out, and will vape the same. The Smokeless Image Volts have slightly longer cig size - used to last me 2.5 hours of vaping. With a PCC he will have plenty of vape time while out. Vape with one while the other charges. The Volts were my pvs for quite a while, and I had come off smoking 40-50 cigs a day. For some-one wanting cig size and using them much less than I did, with a PCC and either the 280mah or 320mah Volts - it is a good choice.
A lot of ECF members have used, and do use them.

I think I'll try an 808 style ecig. I usually use my disposables while I'm out as I never really smoked that much at home.

I'm not 100% sure the use of that pump. Is it just a convenient way to dispense the juice?

Great vid, thanks Kiwi that clears it up. I find theres a heck of a lot of confusion when one is new to a newer industry.

So clearos and tanks are the same, right?

I also recommend the Volt from Smokeless Image. It was recommended to me and now that I own one I've got two more in transit.

You mentioned that you want to keep it as maintenance free as possible. If you decide to go with pre-filled cartomizers, keep in mind that you don't have to refill them if you don't want to. You can simply throw them away and start with a fresh one each time. This will cost a little bit more in the long run but not that much really. It will help to keep things simple because you won't have to buy juice or mess with refilling anything. Once you have the basic equipment (batteries and chargers) all you will need to buy after that is pre-filled cartomizers.

This is what I'm currently doing and I'm spending about $35 every two weeks on supplies. I know I could save a little by refilling my cartomizers myself but I like the convenience of not having to mess with it and I'm still spending WAY less than I did on analogs.

Refilling your own cartomizers has it advantages. Just wanted to point out that you don't have to if you don't want to.

I feel the same. What I thought I wanted when I started VS. what I use today is very different. If you really want a 510 Cig look-a-like you can certainly find a lot of them out there. And I know with all the mods, Cartos, clearos, atty, battys, and whatever other jargon has been thrown your way, what you want is something simple and familiar.

I did the same thing. When I started vaping again (had a cig relapse, I'm much better now) There were so many options and words and things that I just didn't understand or want to really. I got a cigarette shaped battery, and tobacco flavored juice, and was so disgusted by the experience that I almost just gave it up. I decided, instead, to get the King Disposables from 7-11 and use them till I found something that didn't give me brain pain. Those KEAR starters worked great for me. A ton less messy than the 510 set up. Way easier to fill, use and not get a mouth full of fluid, and with a car charger, the battery never ran out. This, and some Our 4 High Caliber which you also order from Electronicstix worked very well with me. Once I got over the Ego Battery fear, I saw that these little Egos are still small and slim enough that is wasn't supper obvious when I used them. And though I really enjoyed the flavor of the King Disposables, I haven't found a E-juice tabacco Flavor that I enjoy. Mostly I hate them. The RY4 (Our 4 from Stix) is comfortably dark and has a hint of cigarette in it. The caramel and Vanilla mix well for a strong, but not too sweat flavor. Close enough to what I was used too when smoking, but closer to what I would develop a taste for Vaping.

I went through these starter packs quick. I have already passed the two I got for myself on as well as getting 4 for friends and one for anyone at work that wanted to give up smoking. The tank it comes with is easy to use and lasted long enough for me to get comfortable looking at other items. The only downside was that they don't sell replacement heads for the Smok Viva Nova. Which is what those come with and what you need to look for.

Simple break down, if you are using Vaping just to replace cigarettes, I'd stick with the disposables. No mess, No set up, a flavor you can stand. If you want to use vaping to quit, which I did once, then a 510 set up isn't bad, it just isn't good either. It leaks, always seems to have a hint of burn, and bothered my teeth. I needed to keep Juice on me at all times, because they always run out, and It just didn't satisfy me. Which is why I was able to quit with it. The JoyeTech eRoll is pretty good and will do what you need it too. I like it better than any standard 510 set up.

What most people I have talked too experience is that what starts as a plan to quit becomes an enjoyable habit/hobby. So, starting with something as small and messy as a 510 isn't going to help make the transition easier, it just makes it cost more when you do upgrade. I actually started a post on here about things I wish I had known when I started and one person added "I wish someone would have talked me out of a 510" which was widely agreed upon.

So, from personal experience I can say that the eRoll was the best of the look-a-Likes that I found, it has a pcc, and is the only mini I use. You just need to get something else to carry extra cartridges in. Not hard to find, when in doubt, altoids tins work. This way you at least get a cig a like that if you do end up deciding to get bigger and badder batteries, you will still keep it around.

Well, I would suggest to you that beginners and veterans are looking for different products. I have a close friend who uses several expensive contraptions to vape, I've tried his. They're not for me, I want something small to keep my hands busy during my breaks so I don't start smoking again out of boredom.

If 808s are generally the same, I will probably still go with the Redds, for a few reasons. The store is Canadian, for one, so I don't have to worry about border issues (the nic juice is banned here). And honestly, I feel the PCC is a much better design than the volt / standard. It can keep everything you need in one place. Am I wrong? Feedback?

I appreciate everyones help. At this stage I'm not going much bigger than an analog. If I do in the future it will be because my needs have changed.

Hi Jim, Sorry - I didn't notice you are in Canada. If you've found an 808 there you like then I'd say go for it. I'm not sure what you mean about the Volt - they come with PCCs too. But if you are happy with the Redds then sure. I don't know the Redds myself.

Maybe, but I was recommending a 510 system as opposed to an 808 system.
I can't speak for Canada, but $90 (C) seems expensive, and it worries me that you might spend unnecessarily.
I tried to quit tobacco from 15 a day and didn't actually manage it with an 808 PCC kit.
I wish you luck however, of course..... :)

If you're really set on the Redds consider https://www.canvape.com/category-s/1890.htm to buy additional supplies from as they're less expensive.

After 5 posts you can request a Cdn Vendors list via pm- LOTS of Vendors up here:

    Best of Luck.

Ya, thanks, that is a cheaper site. They actually have a very similar kit to the redds for cheaper.

Kiwi, I was under the impression that the slider style case had no place for cartos, etc. Upon closer inspection, they seem very comparable(?). Sometimes it's hard to make things out from pictures. :| That being said, I still think I would prefer the design of the fliptop PCC. :)

Once again, guys, cheers and thanks for all your help.

Sounds like you've found what you were looking for so its all good.:)

You can get more length of use out of them by boiling them to clean them out, then letting them dry over night or couple days before refilling and putting back into service. Average use without boiling them out or scorching them 7-10 days on average, cleaning out you can double or triple their life span.

Do you just boil in water, or do you add something to help clean them out?

After reading the posts I would say a big battery would be at least worth a try. I found without the higher voltage I would have went back to analogs. I had the same problem with needing to play with something. For the longest time I found my self holding my ego-c 650mah more like a cigar. The power is well worth the upgrade if you prefer the taste of your current then you could get an adapter to change the 510 to 808. That way if you ever want to branch out in to 510 land (which seems to be be vast) you can while having the choice to stick with your current brand. Just my 2 cents. All in all what every keeps you away from the ash :)

If you start out with the cig look alike you will most likely upgrade at some point, however they can still get the job done. I still use mine on a daily basis on the job, but I have several mods, tanks and such at home. If you get a good quality set up (small batts) it will definitely be a major upgrade over the disposables. Some good small batts in my opinion are smokeless image, bloog, and I've heard good things about the Halo G6 as well. Basically any regulated 808, and use horizontal coil cartos. A good way not to spend too much money on the cartos is to refill them yourself, its really simple and you'll get far more use out of them.
i have a halo g6. nice kit plenty of vapor. has 2 batteries, so you are good there....if you want a cig a like kit, i recommend this one. you can choose auto or manual battery. i have auto just because they are so cig a like that way. good luck and welcome
