I just purchased this magnifying visor for doing some needle work, and it occurred to me that it would be excellent for coil building. It comes with 5 different magnifying inserts that snap into the frame. There is a double LED light that illuminates your work (runs on 3 AG10 batteries). The light and magnifying lenses are adjustable (can adjust angle of each separately) and they can flip up out of the way if you need regular vision.

The magnifying visor is relatively inexpensive. It is made of plastic, but seems sturdy to me. For the price, I think it would be a great tool for anyone who has trouble seeing their coils.

My mag visor is my favorite tool period. There is no way I could build without it. I bought one from harbor freight a couple years ago which was like 8 dollars. Before that I had tried the mag lamp but didn't like it as much because your held to hold items away from you. Maybe it's because I can't see good close up, but can't imagine how someone can do coils without this.

I use something Very Similar. Only it has a Band that goes all the way around your Head.

What makes this So Cool is the Ability to Flip the Lens Up when you Need to Walk or to See with Regular Vision.

Oh yeah, zoiDman, I forgot to mention that this one also has a band that will adapt it to go around your head. It's elastic rather than plastic. I haven't tried it yet. I'm loving this visor for my little thread craft and I'm sure it will be great for coils. It does also flip up out of the way similar to the one you have., and when it's in place you can look over the lenses to see more distant things (like the tv). It does make me a little seasick if I use it for long periods though. Another disadvantage is that it makes it look like I have 'man hands' when I'm looking at my hands through it. Lol.

I was bragging about it to my mom and she went and ordered one for doing her hand quilting.

The Flip Up feature is the Only Way to Go.

I have Bashed my knee to Many Times while having on Regular Magnifiers and then tried to do the Walking Under Water thing to Grab a Tool. Or get a Soda.

It is Also Nice when you are doing a Step By Step Instruction on the Computer. And you need to go Back and Forth from Looking at the Screen to Looking at the Project.

I keep one next to my Desk. And have used it for All Kinds of things.

Yes, that looks right for the strap. I actually haven't even taken it out of the box, so not 100% sure.

It's got two LED lights, and they are pretty bright at first, but they do seem to run the batteries down. It could have something do do with the fact that I've got 2 fatter batteries in it rather than the 3 smaller batteries it called for. The ones that came with it did not last very long and the fatter ones were the only ones I had on hand. I ordered some of the ar10 (LR1130) batteries, but I got them super cheap so shipping is slow.

Kinda the Same with Mine.

It Takes 2 AAA's. It is Good when the AAA are Freshly Charged. But it Fades Quickly. Could be the el-Cheap-O AAA batteries I'm using. But I think it is more just an Under Powered LED Emitter.

To be fair, for the thread craft I'm doing (tatting) I'm running the LEDs for long periods of time, like hours. For coil building, the use wouldn't be that long unless you're into marathon coil building. They'd last much longer if just used for minutes at a time.

I would consider getting one of these to Try.

Because Running the LED on Mine for Minutes is what I consider a Long Time. Hours are Not even Possible.

My other hobby is watch repair...don't send me your watches...I break more than I fix...so I'm well equipped with all sorts of magnifiers. i agree they are indispensable in coil building. I've also discovered new uses for my small screwdrivers and other tools. Two hobbies for the same tools...thisis fun...as long as my eyes hold out.

this looks like the one I've been using for a year or so. I can't imagine building coils without it.

I've been using a magnifier headband ever since I started rebuilding. I wouldn't be without it.
Last winter, I was at a friend's B&M shop, which she had just opened, and the topic came up about building micro coils. I didn't happen to have my headband with me, but I offered to demonstrate anyway, like an idiot.. I did manage to get through it, but I left with such a severe headache, I could barely keep my eyes open to drive home.
