Yesterday I bought a $20 e-cig kit at a local tobacco shop to see if vaping would work for me. I loved it immediately! Its very tiny and seems quite powerful. BUT I got a horrible sore throat, cough and headache which has not gone away. Maybe I'm allergic to something in the juice? It's 100% PG and has some real scary sounding stuff in it, like ethanol. Iis this what vaping is like until you're used to it? You can't refill these cartomizers so I can't try other e-liquid with it. Can I put another brand cartomizer on it or could that make it explode? A $20 kit probably isn't the best equipment you'll find. You shouldn't be getting a sore through unless your atty is too try or the juice is crap. Since you're just starting out, I'd play with the one you have for a while and if you're hooked, consider upgrading to an eGo or Riva.
That is an example of one of the "dregs" or bottom-feeder personal vaporizers. Here is what I posted to another new person today that will provide you some better options:

I'm curious about the ethanol. Is that listed as an ingredient? It seems as though that would be flammable when vaporized...
yep, you bought the dregs (as many of us did when first starting out).... there are such great starter kits out there as wv2win and GrandPoobah stated. I had the same reaction to 100% PG juice so switched to some with a mix of PG and VG and don't have these issues anymore. Also, you will need to drink more water as the juice tends to dry out your throat. Hang in there and try a different PV, it will change your life!
I am wondering if it is more the nic in the cartos....there is not strength option on their site......that would explain all the symptoms....too high for the user. They don't even tell the mg of the nic in the cartos.......
for more experienced users....would that batt fit the 40x series? I am not sure what the threading is, but it (from pics) kinda reminds me of that size???

- Very Small battery life.
- Kinda expensive to buy more cartridges.
The battery is easy. Get an Ego-type. The bigger the better, and if possible, pass-through so it could be charged with any mini-usb cable (no need to carry a charger).
The liquid is more tricky, everybody like different things. I was a newport smoker, 2 packs a day. I've found that PG makes me cough a lot while VG is tasty and delicious. I'm using Dekang, Sam Mint flavor, 100% VG @ 24mg strength. Still sampling other stuff, but that's my main vape.
Maybe you can post what cigarette brand you were using and how many cigarettes a day. You could get better e-juice recommendations from vapers who use to smoke the same.

Ethanol (aka PGA, pure grain alcohol) is the drinkable version. It's common, handful of %, as a base for some flavorings and to thin out high VG content eliquids. Not a problem.
As others suggested, other PVs may suit you better, but it is certainly not harmful to plug away with what you have for a bit.

Afterward, blow through the mouth end, onto a tissue, to clear any excess liquid, wipe the battery connector terminal, and put it back on the battery.

Thanks so much everyone for all your input. Have to say this thing is amazing, actually a tiny bit shorter than a regular cigarette and the battery seems very powerful although I haven't used it enough to find out how long it lasts. Puts out a ton of vapor with no need to pre-puff or anything. I will try it again later today and let you all know how long it lasts. I think you are correct that maybe its just a little too much nic for me, felt kind of nauseated also like from that very 1st cigarette 40 yrs ago.

Search youtube on how to refill cartomizers, you will be amazed how easy it is.
Yup... google how to refill cartomizers... I use the "condom" method (I didn't named it, it was like that when I came here)... it works like a charm.
About the nausea, I also believe is due to over-nic. I get the same feeling when using too much nic, be it on e-juice or too much snus or any other type of delivery.

I started with these too. I need 2. One to use, one to charge. Battery only lasts about 3 hours. Carts are not consistent. They are re-fillable with a syringe and e liquid. It can only take 2 drops at a time every 3 hours or you risk frying the battery with the overflow( like I did). The draw is not consistent. One unit is easier than the other and makes more vapor.

Disagreed. V4L kr808s work great, same as any ego just less battery life. Just get XLs and one more battery and you'll be set.
Hate cigarette sized batteries. It drove me nuts finding a dead battery every couple hours. Anyway, I'll mention that some people have an allergic reaction to PG. You might have that sensitivity.
I charge my PV's battery every 18 hours of constant vaping. The power to the atomizer that my battery delivers is the same on the last press of the button after 18 hours as the first, fresh off the charger. It's called a regulated boost circuit. Your kr808 on average needs recharging 4-5 times to my one charge and after 30 minutes of vaping the power to the atomizer on a kr808 is diminishing and continues to diminish. There is a significant difference in the performance level between these two devices. And if you disagree with my "Rule of Thumb", then you are infering that 100 mAh, mini PV's such as the M402, which is the same size as an analog, work just as well as any other device. You really want a newbie to think that?
Nicotine is a skin irritant. Nicotine in 100% PG can be very irritating to mouth, throat, lungs. Get some juice with 20-30% VG in it and if you are not using cartos or tank then you could go higher like 50/50.
You are the only one who posts that PG and nicotine causes all this "irritation". Why do thousands of vapers use 100% PG and vape 24mg nicotine strength and not see this as an issue? Some new person is going to read this and be fearful and be unable to transition to vaping. They could be allergic to VG. What will they do then? They are going to have withdrawl symptoms from not smoking and they might think it's the "irritation" from the nicotine or PG when in reality it is none of that and then reduce the level of their nic and switch to VG after reading this and are not getting what they need and give up. Making statements like they are facts for ALL PEOPLE WHO VAPE does more harm than good, IMO.
That person should have said that some people can be sensitive to PG. I'm one of them. I mix my own juice with a high VG content because PG does cause some irritation for me, but nothing serious. I also add grain alcohol to my juice. Specifically, Everclear 151. I use it to thin my at VG at 6:1 before mixing with it. For those who have never mixed their own, pure VG is thick like syrup and has to be thinned with water or grain alcohol to make it suitable for mixing. It's not uncommon for people to use a clear liquor like Vodka or Everclear. For me, it makes a big difference and would not like to vape a high VG juice without it.
