Here's a little problem (big problem) that I had yesterday morning. I bought some of the longer 2.8 ohm ready wires from Stormy's with the idea of using two wires for each coil for a total of four wires with dual coils, that comes out to 0.75 ohms. Well the o-ring that secures the positive wires on a Hercules is so soft (compared to Ithaka's) and because I twisted the ends of the NR to keep them together one of the wires poked through the o-ring and shorted against the base and burnt the o-ring a little, super yuk burnt tire taste. The hardest part was getting the smell out of the atomizer. I put a nylon washer above the o-ring which I replaced with one for Ithaka so all is well for now. So make sure those positive wires are wrapped neatly around the shaft.
BTW, using the four wires for dual coils worked just great otherwise, I choose using four 2.8 ohm wires to achieve more wraps vs using two 1.5 ohm wires.

today my flavor was deminishing today so i took my ithaka appart and the coll was gunked up like i expected due to the juice im using in it, after rebuilding it the exact same way i can't get the flavor back, very muted! before it was amazing, i mean it was just amazing! tried a couple more builds with no success. one with regular silca and one with ekowool. any ideas what might be going on here? no leaks no gurgles. tried with auto feed, auto feed off and tried using both. the build that was perfect was 2mm ekowool with a single coil quad wick, and and i was using the auto feed only. i'm stumped!

Not exactly sure.. When my coils are gunked, I just dry-burn instead of rebuilding. I'm on the same dual-coil I built close to 4 weeks ago, and usually dry-burn every 3rd tank. I do vape light DIY tobacco liquids though, and use XC-116 ceramic wick...

Are your ohms coming out the same as the 1st build? Perhaps the flavor will come back after you go though a tank or so...

tech: next time you take her down for a rebuild, post a pic of where you run the pos-lines (with an arrow for old eyes ;-), ok?

I've resolved my Herc issues by stealing the cap and tanks for the term-c: the herc is gonna' sit in the corner on "quiet time" for now.. I can't seem to manage a dual-setup w/o canting the pospin; the bloody "auto-feed sleeve" forever wants to spin - or let the core spin - when I try to use the mouthpiece; the canting pin likes to short - the list goes on, but the term-c keeps chugging ;-)

All in all, I'm happy to let it live in the parts-box for what I paid, but I plan to jewelers-rouge all the threading when I get "bored", (an event so rare I can't recall one)..

Dang that Vochu!

When you tried to stop using auto feed, did you leave the mouth piece/juice feed closed when you filled the tank? Then adjust the juice feed accordingly?

ya my ohms are the same. i vape with variable wattage so it shouldn't matter much anyway should it?... and ya hopefully the flavor comes back fully. cause damn it was good! ;)

yes i opened the manual feed after i had the auto feed closed. i just took it apart again and opened the auto feed and am leaving the manual feed closed, and now the flavor is a tad better, nowhere near where it was but a bit better. funny thing is when i first rebuilt it this morn i used auto feed and then went to manual.... strange.

There's a "Sweet Spot" with the Ithakas when it comes to juice control - if you over-juice them, you will loose vapor & flavor - you are flooding the coil & cuts its efficiency and ability to produce vapor (flavor). If you under-juice them, you will get a slightly burnt or slight metallic flavor.

One trick I've found is that if you are loosing flavor, but not getting the burnt/metallic taste; shut down the juice control completely, and vape it horizontally for a little while until it starts coming back to normal (you will be using up the excess juice in the wick & won't be getting as much juice into the "automatic" juice pick-up), then open up the juice control again about halfway to where you were before and fine-tune it from there. It sounds complicated, but its really not.....you will develop a feel for it as you get more used to the device.

When you rebuild a coil/wick, you usually need to "tune" it again a bit since no two re-wick/coil jobs will be exactly the same. I had the same issues when I started using Oddys a while back....now I can usually get them (and my Ithakas) dialed-in in a few minutes.

BTW... I also generally just dry-burn rather than re-build. The only time I rebuild one now is to try a new configuration, or if I'm using Silica (not Ekowool) wicks when they finally go south. In my experience, regular Silica wicks can only be dry-burned a limited number of times before they start giving off a burnt flavor, or disintegrate - the Ekowool wicks are just about indestructible.

Have fun....

Another entertaining read DW. Atty wires can be sharp little bass-tards. I'm currently in the dog house because this week my wife has located my cut-offs 3 times, stuck into the bottom of her bare foot. That's how many strikes I'm allowed. All I can do is promise to be more careful, but I know I had a couple wild wire days when the wire welder showed up. She's looking for any excuse to have me rip up the carpet (only thing I hate more than pluming work is laying floors).

Using two 2.8 ohm (longer ones) per coil Stormy ready wires to achieve 0.75 ohm dual coil setup on Ithaka (or clone) worked like a champ.
I wasn't getting enough wraps with a single 1.5 ohm wire per coil. It would be nice if they had used 30 gauge resistor wire to make the 1.5 ohm ready wires but this works real good but of coarse requires four wires per build.

I don't know how you guys do it.... I wouldn't want to go any lower than 1.0 ohm on a dual-coil in the Herc, or anything else for that matter. I've also after a few days of use, decided to dedicate the Herc to my ProVari 2.5. I had a V1 for over a year, and it didn't have the ... to push the 1.0 dual-coil... The 2.5 does... ;) I'm really liking the regulated 3.7v until the battery dies.. :)

Just something to consider.. Many of us got into vaping for harm-reduction. I've noticed a few sub-ohm vapers on vids with coughing fits, and hoarse voices. In fact, I read a post here this morning about someone experiencing more or less the same symptoms. In 3 years of vaping, my doc says my lungs are clear, I don't cough, and I have no throat irritation. I'm 50 years old, and completed a brisk 3 mile walk yesterday with no resting or shortness of breath.. :)
