I'm happy to read through the posts on this site. Cool community of pioneers!

I've just received my first e-cig. I've had the "Smoking Everywhere" cig bookmarked for 6 months and finally decided to try it. At first, the starter package price was a whopping $150.00 but they've decided to reduce it to $89.

So, without much research, I thought, "What the heck?"

I ordered directly through their website from Florida. It took 3 days to arrive.

I was puffing on my trusty ole Marlboro lights (15 years now) and feeling like a jerk about it. I've recently become a father to a strapping little boy and I felt like I couldn't bare to kill my lungs any longer, for his sake.

I went into the experience of the e-cig with a positive outlook. I figured that it was the only alternative to smoking that could work for me, so I needed to make it work (even if it was lousy).

So, the thing arrived in the mail and I immediately through my Marlboros in the garbage... giant leap of faith here.

I was a bit disappointed that the "Smoking Everywhere" cig was long, like a 100. It was also a bit heavy. Of course, my dream was that I couldn't tell the difference between the real and electronic cig. Wishful thinking.

They claim that the filters (cartridges) are equal to 1 pack of real smokes.
I did not find this to be true at all. I found that the vapor was really strong and fulfilling for about 2 hours of smoking, after that it tapered off significantly.

So, I realized that I needed about 3 filters a day to satisfy my cravings. With the price of "Smoking Everywhere" refills ($10 for 5), that's $6 a day.

But, what the hay (?!), I've been paying more than that for real smokes anyway!

So, I've been pretty impressed with the product. I quit smoking for 2 days while I had enough e-filters to last me. It was the first time in forever that I didn't crave a real cigarette. Wow!

So, I ran out of filters yesterday (Saturday). I have plenty coming tomorrow (Monday). In the meantime, I've been smoking regular cigs.

This is where the amazing part comes in...

I miss my e-cigarette!!! Oh my gosh! Is this really happening???

Folks, I like smoking an e-cigarette BETTER than a real one!

It's absurd! I hate the smell and taste and feeling of real cigarettes.

I had no idea!!! The e-cigarette has completely changed me.

So, I'm now looking into other brands. I've got the "Health e-cigarette" on order. It's the cheap one ($30.00 for the starter kit) with the charger built in to what looks to be a pack of cigs. Pretty neat.
Also, their refills are $4.00 for 14. Big price break.

And they're shorter. Cool.

My buddy's thinking about trying the "Green Smoke" e-cig.

Well, that's my story. Thanks for the great forum and congrats, everybody, for making the leap to an amazing product. I've been patting my self on the back for a few days now. haha

I nearly forgot how great it feels to breathe!!

Welcome and good that you are starting to vape. The SE and the others you mentioned are generally not well reviewed by the experienced vapers on this site. I would suggest doing some research. Here is a summary of my journey into vaping. Some have found it helpful. I would strongly suggest getting a manual (push a button) PV and liquid to fill your own carts. You should enjoy vaping more and it is more cost effective.

I read this forum and looked at older forum threads for two weeks before I purchased my first PV (personal vaporizer).

My first PV was a blue DSE901 from Phil at e-Smokey Treats - Electronic Cigarette's, The healthy alternative to traditional tobacco cigarette's. Phil is a little more expensive than some suppliers but gives you two atomizers instead of just one and provides a phone number where you can call him which most suppliers do not. Like all suppliers, the kit comes with two batteries and a charger. The battery will last about 2-3 hours before needing recharged although some users reported getting 4-5 hours but that has not been my experience. His 901 starter kit is $69.95 where some other suppliers will sell them for $49.95 or $59.95 but without the extra’s that Phil provides. I would consider the DSE901 a good first purchase and it is about the size of a regular 100 cigarette. (If you purchase from Phil at e-smokey-treats.com, when it asks for a coupon code, use esmoking101 and you should get 10% off.)

Many users like the classic penstyle 801 model which has a larger atomizer and cart and a typical battery charge life of about 4 hours. The draw is lighter, more like a straw (to me) due to having 4 holes in the atomizer and the bigger cart. The 801 is larger and looks more like a big pen instead of regular cigarette. You can also purchase a USB pass-through for both the 901 and 801, which allows you to plug into a usb port on your computer or wall socket adapter and not have to worry about changing batteries. You can then purchase a portable battery pack for the usb pass-through such as this one from Kennsington (Kensington - Portable Power Pack for Select Mobile Devices - Black - K38021) and make your usb power portable. Make sure the power pack is at least 1000mAh power output.

Most users want an PV to provide the “throat hit” that is most like a real cigarette (analog as we call them) as well as long battery life. Many members have stated that one of the best ways to get consistent throat hit is to get a manual switch PV that allows you to push a button and heat up the atomizer more before you inhale. One that does that well is the screwdriver (SD) from trog at: - The ScrewDriver - An electronic cigarette that simply works. It is more expensive but it provides long battery life (7-8 hours) and consistent throat hit. Plus replacement batteries cost $2-$3 instead of $15-$20 on the auto switch devices like the 901 and 801 and can be bought anywhere unlike the auto switch batteries. And my experience with trog has been outstanding. I have emailed him many times with questions and he almost always responds any where from 10 minutes to an hour or so. There is also now a US supplier of a PV with a manual switch and big battery, the Prodigy from PureSmoker.com - Your #1 Source For PV's, Parts, & Accessories!. And Steve is providing a 6 month warranty on the Prodigy and puresmoker is well supported by forum members.

Most members recommend that you use e-liquid or e-juice to refill your carts instead of use the prefilled cartridges that come with the starter kits. Plus it is more cost effective. My recommendation (others will differ on this) is to get a little higher nicotine (nic) strength because you can always dilute it with USP glycerin that you can get at a drug store for $5 or $6 if you find it is too strong. I use 24mg nic strength. The highest is 36mg and there is also 18, 11, 6 and 0. There are many different flavors to choose from. My favorite tobacco flavor is Kent from www.eastmall.net - Eastmall International Co.,Ltd. It has a smooth but definite tobacco flavor to me. Others like the stronger flavors such as Camel. You can also reduce the strength over time. Another supplier with a pretty good following is LiquidXpress Hompage.

Hope this helps and good luck.

PS: the smallest bottle of liquid is 10ml and usually costs $9.99. In general (everyone is different) you should get any where from 5-14 days out of that size bottle. In addition, you can wash out the fabric in the pre-filled cartridges and reuse them. The fabric is simply polyester batting which you can get enough for a year's worth for about $5 from Wal-Mart.

Congrats to everyone that has given up analogs! I am currently on my 11th week and going strong! My first e-cig was the DSE901 like most others here. While I found this to be a good starter and reliable e-cig I did have a couple problems with it. 1. I used to over fill my carts causing the excess to drip into the battery and kill it. 2. Most of my batteries would activate on there own. I came close to burning my leg when I had it in my pocket.

About 2 weeks ago I got a 510 manual from eastmall and I seriously can't find anything wrong with it and I LOVE it to death! The battery is sealed off so no liquid can kill it if you over fill and the carts seem to hold more liquid. I'm finding myself not topping of nearly as often as I did with the 901. People at work often ask me about e-cig's and I always recomend the 510. It's shorter than a 901, but I recomend getting either a USB passthrough, PCC or both because the battery has a shorter life span.

Congrats again and aborb all the great info on this forum! ;)

I got started with the "Health" e-cig a few days ago and the next day received my Yeti 510.... what an experience! That 510 ROCKS! I wasn't sure about the manual battery at first but have become quite accustomed to it and definitely prefer it to an automatic. That charger is getting a workout for the last couple days....

Congrats Ulysses!
I am just as amazed with these e-cigs -- as I was to the point in life that I thought the only way I would be able to quit smoking would be if I was in a coma. And now, I am only on day 4 with my e-cig and down to just 2 real cigarettes a day (down from 40+ a day).

I agree with the other posters -- give the liquid a try. I was hesitant about trying it because I thought that it sounded like a hassle (especially with some e-cig models), and I was worried that if I made a mistake with it that I would kill my e-cig, but it's not bad at all, and so far I haven't killed anything. Though I did make sure that I went with a model (901) that I wouldn't have to use a paperclip to take apart anything to be able to refill it.

I'm in the same boat. Congrats

This is where I get off your boat though. The cartomisers in the two piece units don't seem to last longer than a day or two. But $6/day is way more expensive than I'm used to spending on cigarettes. Maybe about a $1 per day was my analog habit, probably less. $15 for a can of premium, no additive American Spirit tobacco would last about a month.

For me, price is still a huge issue with vaping compared to smoking.

You can get a Real DSE901 kit from e-cigarette-mart.com for 32$ shipped. I got mine last week and haven't looked back since, Since the first kit purchase I purchased multiple liquids, and have been refilling myself. I also just ordered another kit from them (it was cheaper since i needed a charger and batteries and atomizers to have stock just in case)
