Since last October when I comitted to vaping after a lifetime of smoking, I have to say that while I have found written information and advice very useful, I have still found that I had to experiment to find what actually worked for me.
The first good satisying rig I had was an iStick 30w ( still in use) with a Nautilus Mini - I liked it because it offered a (to me) great nic hit and produced about the same amount of vapour as my pipe did and the draw also was similar if I ran the attie full open. I ran it around 8 watts with a fairly high nic strength juice...and never suffered one craving. I feared however at the beginning that I might be left without a vape if the battery died on me when I was out and almost immediately got a duplicate outfit which I carried with me at all times although the 30w iStick ran a day and a half with me on a full charge.
I joined Forums, found out there were restrictions on vaping coming shortly, read about dripping atties providing a more flavoursome vape and a purer one, read about how squonkers were bomb proof and the way to go and how the whizz bag all singing all dancing sub ohm atties were THE FUTURE and the only way to go and that also if one posessed but one of these miracles one would only ever need low nic juice.
I experimented, I tried drippers and squonkers, I learned to build coils and wick the things, I bought a Triton 2 sub ohmer...and for me nothing worked as well as my original Nautis did! I went back to them but also acquired the el cheapo GS Air atties which I had discovered en passant and thought were great.
I still have my iSticks and use them daily but as they die I will replace them with Kanger 40w K Boxes which I have found to be tough, long lasting virtually bomb proof...and they come with replaceable 18650 batteries which last the day and a half on a full charge. As the modern trend is towards nuclear strength mods these 40w K boxes can be had quite cheaply now.
The point I am making is that you might have to experiment a bit to find what suits you personally - even if that means buying kit - it'll cost less than tobacco products and certainly less than silver mounted Peterson Pipes! I am also minded that when I switched to a pipe full time I tried 120 different pipe tobaccos before I went back to the St Bruno flake I started with!
Never grudge the price of experimentation, for it can lead to great satisfaction - try to sit back and enjoy the journey.
As I have said before, in my day I was a heavy smoker - 3 packs a day of unfiltered British Virginia cigarettes, for preference Senior Service and if I couldn't get them then Player's plain.
Vaping has worked for me. I offer the thought that I have found a Nauti Mini with 18 strength unflavoured home made juice to me tastes as like a Senior Service as I have ever found; the same juice in a GS Air is as near to a Player's as I'll find. I now have a large stock of coils for both atties...I'll not be changing kit in a hurry!
