Those are not recommended for safety reasons, and they might not work at all on your Vamo. Lots of people consider the AW IMR the best choice, but if you want to save money you could buy Efest IMR batteries, they are very reliable. I use Efest IMR 18350 in my Vamo, and I like them.

So, what are your charge times and with what charger? My charge times, it appears, are too long... I dig the performance though.

Good call on the Vamo. As for the batteries, I have used both protected and IMR batteries in mine without a problem.

Welcome , but I have to second this . I use both IMR and other " protected batteries " in My Vamo , and they seem to work just fine . So it's your call . If they work , you will have a long lasting battery . If they don't your out , not alot of money . I live in Las Vegas ( USA ) so I probably would take a gamble . But that's just me .

agree with edking66. at the lower wattages the protected MAY work, sometimes. The protected Li-Ion batteries will NOT run in MY vamo. I can run unprotected Li-Ion batts in it if I want to (and have), but not recommended because of the vamo voltage booster. It causes the high drain in the batteries and Li-Ions are not suitable for that much of a voltage draw for any period of time..
Of course the Vamo should have protection against the Li-Ion Batteries going boom, but I am certainly not going to tell you to go ahead and use them. The safest bet is to use the IMR (Li-Mn) batteries that are recommended by the manufacturer.

Edit: Efest does make an IMR battery as well

OK, just to make sure I wasn't telling something other than fact, as I have both IMR and protected batteries, I had to double-check what I posted previously. So... at this very moment I am running an Ultrafire BRC 18650 Li-ion, which reads on the side, "Short-circuit and over current protection", in my Vamo at 9 watts.

This may be an anomaly, but I'm telling you all, Jehovah as my witness, that it's working. Took it out and put it in my Maxi Rough Stack and it's firing that one as well.

However, as the manual does state to use only IMR batteries, that should be the final word. Now knowing this, I'll use only the IMRs in my Vamo.

Although the protected wont run in my vamo right now, it seems as though I remember them actually working in it when I first got the Vamo. I Definitely don't doubt Indianajames.
They may not always work in mine either.

I'm glad I mentioned this, though. I wasn't trying to pass on bad advice at all, I was just telling what my experience has been [so far]. I probably should've paid more mind to the manual, though. (It also says to use only button-tops and not stack, but I'm using flat-tops and have read of several others stacking 18350s.) Oops.

Not more than a couple of hours to charge my batteries. I have a Trustfire01 charger, so I keep checking them while they charge, because some people had trouble with that charger overcharging and the batteries getting hot. I had no issues so far, but I am being careful. I plan on buying a Xstar replacement next time I have some extra cash.

Word! Good idea! There's a reason the manufacturer states this.

For chargers:

I use a Nitecore Intellicharger. I LOVE it. No stupid spacers to pop out or lose. I hear the Pila is the best though I don't own one. I do not like the trustfire one I have at all and really don't even use it anymore.

This is the one I have, too. Having four slots is awesome, too.

I know this thread is a few weeks old, but hoping a few of you can chime back in for me. I'm about to order a Vamo, it will be my first mod, i have two ego twists, two vivi-novas, and two kamry X6's. The second my paycheck hits my bank acct on Friday morning, I'm ordering the Vamo, an innoken iclear 30, and possibly some batteries. I say possibly because I'm still undecided on the brand/type of battery to get. I trust my B&M store owner/friend, and he ONLY sells AW IMR batts, the 18650s (2300mah - i think) are 12.99 + tax at his store. The site I'm buying the Vamo from carries efest IMRs (2000mah) for 7.98, but they are flat tops, and from what I've been reading here, they may or may not work in the Vamo. Yes, I realize that $5 is a petty amount to worry about when the AW seams to be such a superior batt, but it adds up when you buy 3 or 4 or more of these things. I'm just trying to understand the finer points about these batteries and make an informed decision. My question is this; Would you buy 3 AW's for $44, or 4 efests for $32, and why? Also, is there any benefit to running stacked 18350s other than reduced/no rattle in the Vamo? Thanks!
