... Does vaping turn us into rude people with no regard or self-respect? Why can't we just keep our vaping limited to our homes and cars or suitable outdoor locations? If we did, we probably wouldn't be the victim of the ongoing governmental harassment and intrusions....

Unfortunately I don't think all the government harassment and intrusion is because of a few rude vapers. Do you really believe that if we all became perfectly polite vapers, then everything would be fine and all the proposed restrictions would just go away?

I agree, they will still come after us even if we kept it entirely in our homes merely because in their eyes we are revenue-stealing thieves. Since we can't fight their silly studies and hobbled-together little laws, we need to gain public support and the last way to do that is by displaying any sort of arrogance which is how public cloud chasing is perceived. Our rights are very important, to me as important as our health, but we have a serious stigma hanging over us and we gotta shake that first and foremost.
