Are those Pila chargers really worth the extra money?
I use the WF-188 and it charges everything, no spacers needed.

There are a few reasons why the Pila is a good charger. First is that it's a true dual channel. Output is 4.2v / 600mA x 2. Most of the cheaper chargers split the output current over 2 (or more) channels. The WF-188 is 650mA total, so 325 each. So it'll charge roughly twice as fast.
The more religious charger arguments are about the charging algorithm. The pila advertises:
with a CC/CV (constant current, constant voltage) algorithm, which is better for battery longevity. Basically, it calculates the ideal voltage when you put the battery in, maintains those through the whole charge, and then converts to a trickle charge. Cheaper chargers just pick a constant voltage like 4.2 and then reduce the current as the battery voltage gets closer to that, and leaves it at that. The inconsistent charging leads to lower life, but this also means that it's bad for the batteries to leave them in the charger after charging is complete as they'll overcharge. This is not the case with the multistage chargers.
The XTAR WP6 II is another example with a CC/CV charging algorithm, but note its output is a total 600mA, which equates to slower charging with 2+ batteries.

And am gutting a Trustfire 4-port charger to use as a cradle. Popularized by the RC (car, plane, boat, etc.) groups, hobby chargers can be tuned to whatever sets of batteries you want to put in there. Overkill for the demands of most PV users, but since I've ended up with several different battery sizes & voltages, it should be nice to have.

I own a WF-188 as well as the Pilas, but rarely use it. I'm not fanatical about it, but I do regularly check my voltages with a multimeter. I do not get consistent end-of-charge voltages from the 188. I do with the Pila. While both charge the batteries, with the investment I have in them I want maximum lifespan.
Anyway, in my opinion -- yeah, they are worth the extra money. (Kinda like mods - A Madvape box will allow vaping, but I prefer my Hog's Mod)

The main reason for the WF-188's popularity is the switchable voltage from 3.2-3.7. I don't know of another inexpensive option that will do both.

You know, its funny...I keep saying, "oh, i like that one, I want that one, oh, I NEED that one" so, if anyone is driving him crazy, its me! He has been so determined to get all of these out by tomorrow, he made me cancel his appt with his chiropractor. You all are going to love your mods! Im looking forward to reading the feedback!
Looking through the family album, I realized two things. 1)My baby isn't in there and 2)Pwyll got that red heart that i was so totally in love with!! I'm jealous!
