Yes, batteries in and mod on but don't plug it in until prompted. Honesty I'm a tech klutz so I seemed to be having more problems than what others were indicating. What ended up working for me was go to HT site, download the updater utility and latest version of firmware and drag them to the desktop. Run updater, it asks for firmware and then prompts for mod plug in. Find 'upgrade port' on the mod menu and plug in the usb, click update on the utility and yeah, there you go, voila.
Now, problem I had was with one laptop at home running W7 and another with W8, both with Firefox as default, neither seemed to work. Some said the HT firmware was configured for W10 but for whatever reason I've resisted updating that. I watched all the vids and tutorials and got nowhere.

Frustrated and seemingly out of ideas, (and here's where you promise not to laugh) I pulled an old laptop off the shelf running WVista that had a mini, low resource browser I had used (QTWeb) and. that. was. what. worked!
Whether it was the OS, browser or most likely operator error idk but that was what worked. I have 3 G2 mods so after the first obviously the other two were a breeze. If this offers even a smidgen of relief to the frustration I experienced, I'll be glad.
