The G2 (and most likely the Slice) is certainly not straightforward. If you expect to just screw on a Kanthal coil, set a temp and vape, you’re probably going to be disappointed. Unlike the “structured fiddling” you do with other TC mods, the G2 takes more time – and some guessing – for parameter setting.

For example, right now I’m using a 0.5 ohm dual Kanthal build on a Billow. My FSK is 92%, running it at 75w and 450 degrees. Vapes like a dream – instant ramp up, then trails down to maintain temp. If I chain vape it so hard that I get ahead of the wicking, it drops way down and prevents a dry hit. I can’t do that with Kanthal on any other mod.

However, if I were to put on another atty with the exact same coil specs, I probably would have to fiddle with the FSK to get it to perform as well. That lack of repeatability can be frustrating – just because a 92% FSK works with my current 0.5 dual coil does not mean it will work with any 0.5 dual coil.

For me, the benefits outweigh the frustrations. But, I can certainly see how it could be the inverse for others.

Exactly right. This is not a vape and go mod. The menu system has a learning curve because it's much different than what most of us are used to. I just don't know how you can with supreme confidence call it a fail when you don't even own the mod. It will tc any metal after being properly adjusted Bro. As for not having that many people owning them. I'll bet the original $199 price tag had something to do with that. Now you can find them for under $80. Truth be told if I had paid $199 I wouldn't even be upset. The mod is that good and the build quality is excellent.

Just a heads up that these should be on their way to the retailers in a few days (Hohmtech said 4-7 business days on their FB page late last week).
Looking forward to grabbing one for myself - it's good to have an alternative to the ubiquitous DNA and YiHi chips on the market.

Just received my Tiffany Blue Slice in the mail. Going through the functions will have to wait until the weekend, but I have to say right out of the box I'm not thrilled with the build quality. It's not horrible by any means, but I expected better given the price point.

The battery door magnets are too weak to hold the door firmly shut -- I can feel (and hear) it shift when I'm using it. The base is not even on both sides so there's a little wobble to it when I set it down. Not a lot, and I have zero concerns about it toppling over, but if you nudge it when it's on the desk it rocks a wee bit back and forth.

On the plus side, I really like the color, and the matte finish is totally immune to fingerprints. The fire button, mode button and screen seem to be the same as the ones on the G2, which is good. The rounded back makes it very comfortable to hold.

I also received 2 of the HT 26650 batteries. Those are charging, and I'm using a Basen Black in the Slice. Fits fine and is not hard to put in or take out.

Hopefully the vape quality will put the build quality issues in perspective.

Had a bit of time to play with the Slice and performance has been good. Zero misfires or stickiness to the button.

So far I've not noticed any difference/improvements over the G2 with the latest firmware, but still too early to tell. Presently running an Ego One Mega tank with a 1.0 ohm kanthal Coilart head (all I had handy) with FSK set to 20%, 50w and 460 degrees. Very nice vape -- the TC cuts in very gracefully.

However, the door flexing and moving every time I grip it is getting really annoying! I wish there was a silicone sleeve for it. I tried the one that came with my Sigelei 90W Plus and it's almost a good fit. The screen, power and up/down button cutouts match pretty closely. However, the Sig is just a bit fatter, so the sleeve has a really baggy fit that is not workable.

Just because they updated the firmware doesn't mean it wasn't released earlier than originally intended.

I bet the release date had to be pushed forward to beat the deeming.

Hohmtech doesn't listen to their customers very well but they do care about fit, finish, and overall quality of the devices.

so this is just a smaller single batt version of the G2? as well as the same "kanthal TC"? just tell me this, has their been any improvement over G2 in regards to interface and ease of use/setup?
I don't have the device but the board is a bit different (more accurate) and the software has more presets for wire types was my last understanding.

I used the Slice as my main device for the past few days and can sum up my impressions as such: it’s a mostly 5-star board that’s trapped in a 1-star body.

I absolutely enjoy its performance in “XXX” mode but the build quality continues to be such a major irritation that I have no plans at present to get another one.

The battery door movement when holding it continues to be my prime complaint. It really gives the Slice a cheap feel. Additionally, the fire button, while it has not stuck or misfired for me, is almost flush mounted, and I can see how it could get stuck under the housing as some users have reported. The up/down and mode switch stick out much further – no idea why HT thought mounting the fire button so flush would be a good idea.

I can also feel the fire button move back and forth when I’m in the menu using the up/down toggle to change settings.

Battery life has been disappointing. I’m swapping batteries 3 to 4 times per day. (As an aside, the new Nitecore SC2 with 3-amp charging has been really handy to have with all these 26650 battery swaps.) The HTs have lots of sag, and the run time is shorter than the Basen blacks. I’ll be interested to see what Mooch has to say about them should he test them, but I’ve been really underwhelmed with their performance compared to the Basen blacks.

40 to 60w most of the time. Ran a TFV4 in wattage mode for a while in the 80-100w range and would see the battery % drop a few points with every puff.
Being it's about (or is) the same board it has to be the batteries, 26650's just can't compete with a good 18650.

I had high hopes for the Slice as well. The performance is great. The battery door is my complaint. It barely stays on. Maybe weak magnets? The magnets look too far recessed to do much. In fact when I opened the box there was a magnet stuck to inner side of the door. Hoping they come up with a remedy.

Indeed. That is a high wattage for any battery, and definitely so for a 26650. I'd consider 80-100w dangerously high for any single battery.
