Something is going on differently with my RED G2 kiba. I recently got my Red G2 and have used it every day since May 4 (see the top post of page #22) and see absolutely no marks on it at all, and I just checked the bottom, where it sits, real close. So something different is going on with the finish of the G2 as compared to my Slice's. Even the battery door is still pristine on my G2, and I have changed batteries, I'm guessing here, about 8-10 times (I get about 2 days per charge, or close to it) and see no marks on either the battery door it's self, or the body where the door fits into. I don't think it's paint, but I don't remember seeing any reference made on the HohmTech site as to the finish, so maybe Tony is correct in his statement about it being Anodized rather than painted. Remember that this is a $139 mod that is now selling for $60.

I take his word for it, it just doesn't look anodized (the finish looks different, but I wouldn't mind seeing a close up) and usually you don't even see it on 100+ dollar mods bc it's expensive and more importantly time consuming. The Chinese especially hate doing it bc it limits the amount of of product they are able to pump out and forces them to increase qc, plus there are a lot of do-overs.

If the box one is anodized aluminum then it has way more value than the painted zinc alloy one.

@52anddone Unless they restock, which IMO seems kind of dubious at this point on this particular device, I can confirm that I got Maine Vapor Room's last red G2.

ed: Missed you said LE, so they may have more... they were down to their last handful period when I was in there though; they're pretty local.

My partner and I just got a black and blue slice a few weeks ago. He got the blue, it's definitely worse. When @mjag said looking at it cross-eyed causes the paint to peel, he wasn't exaggerating. My black one is so far holding up all right but I'm shocked how quickly the blue started going south on the paint job.

The g2 was designed in CA and it's manufactured in Indonesia. The boxes are milled from a single block of alluminum alloy and anodized. Even the sled is metal while most mods use a plastic sled.

I agree Tony, the G2, either SE or LE, is way over built by today's vaping standards.

I was just there, and it looks liked they re-stocked, as I now see:

Red/Silver
Black
Black/Silver
Blue/Silver
Orange
Red

Available for purchase. Good News for All.

I'm thinkin' it depends on the application, and who does it. My "Black" Slice was in use for less that a month and started to loose it's paint, it started to bubble after only 2 weeks, then fall off the 3rd week, then started to look like S#&T after a month. I think it was mjag that showed a pic of his "Black" Slice which he had for a lot longer than I had mine and it was still looking Good. I could take a plastic tooth pick and slowly run it down the side of my "Black" Slice with the tooth pic laying on it's side flat against the Slice and all the paint just fell off of it (every time it hit a bubble, the paint peeled off). mjag had problems with his "Blue" one, like your partner, but my "Black" Slice is by far the worse paint job out of ALL the mods that I own. I also have a Blue/Silver G2 LE that I have had for several months (my first G2) and I just checked it, not a chip, ding, or blemish to be found, and have been using it every day since I got it. So if not Anodized, then what finish could it be ?? I wish they had done the Slice in the same finish as the G2 (unless it was anodized). The paint on the Slice is no better than using a can of Krylon from Walmart.

Does it say on their site that it is Anodized Tony ? I don't doubt you one bit though.

I would be shocked if the G2 is not anodized, I have dropped a couple of them and aside from small corner dings the color is still excellent. I have heard a couple people with the orange G2 have fading, I think one was a red but not sure.

I wish the Slice was anodized aluminum but then again it would not cost $30 when on sale. Still think they could have done a better job on it though.

It probably is, I just have never seen anodizing do e with that finish before, it usually looks like shiny, colored aluminum.

I would also be shocked if the G2 isn't anodized, but I also agree that the above photo is closer to the finish you usually see. Still, as we all keep saying, there seems to be such a huge difference between the finish on the G2 and the slices. How was the original Hohmwrecker finish, anyone know?

Thanks @52anddone, that's great to know about MVR. I wanted to get my partner a Wrecker anyway, especially at the price... I think they're selling the SE and LE for the same price right now yeah?

ed: I know they have the same chip but does anyone who has a G2 and a slice find that the Slice seems to have a bit of a firing delay, at least in the TC modes? It's weird, I mean the Slices are still working great but yeah my partner and I have both noticed a bit of a hiccup when firing in TC modes.

It probably has to do with buck vs boost when you're using two batteries as opposed to one. Just a guess though.

I just noticed this with my Blazer tank and the ceramic coil, there is a firing delay on my Slice in xxx mode. I just figured it was the coil since it is not something I noticed before.

Interesting. It's less noticeable with certain builds for sure. It's honestly not a big deal and only happens with certain things I stick on there; it's probably more a ramp-up time issue than an actual delay but sometimes that doesn't really make sense with the resistance of the coil? As in, the ramp up should be plenty quick. But whatever it's really not a problem, just wondering if anyone else had noticed it. I've been tending towards ever so slightly higher res builds for the slice as a result and that has helped.

Here's the aftermath of my latest project. I took mjag's idea and did similar to my "Black" Slice that the paint was falling off of. On mine I used 150 grit sandpaper and sanded it in a horizontal direction to try to make it look a bit shorter in height, plus to give it a bit more purchase so it isn't so slippery. It might look a little rough now, but as the patina starts to come on I'm hopping it will look better.

Yes, now that I look at your post ^^^, those do look a bit different from the G2's. How much were they, much different than the G2's ??

Yes, they are the same price. As of right now they have the Black, Orange and Red SE's. Seems like I got one of the last Black/Silver LE's they had this time, glad I got it.:w00t:

Yeah 150 is a bit rough for metals, if you don't like it can always try what I normally do and go 800 then 2000.

Idk, the guy who did the I hybrids (faceless) sold the pure for the cheapest around 100, but it was a very simple mech hybrid with ofc no chip.

Question is whether the finish is already sealed in some manner whether by hot sodium or pot. dichromate which may be removed by stripping or abrasion? The paint for units I have flakes away rather readily once the finish is even minimally compromised leaving a smooth non-oxidizing surface.

Good luck. :)
