Made a new tank today to correct what I think was a really slow leak in the top seal.

This time I put the fill port at the bottom of the tank adjacent to the slot in the carto so I could fill the thing without losing juice through the battery end of the carto - first fill worked pretty well. Turned it upside down, filled it with a needle through the small fill port I'd made and didn't lose a drop out of the carto - but I still had to blow it out before I used it.

Orange mechanics hand cleaner (the stuff with the pumice in it) works pretty well for removing the ink off the outside of the syringe but I did end up with the tank looking a little more frosted than if I hadn't used it. It worked well enough I'd do it again.

I think two things caused my itty bitty air leak - poking a sharp through the top seal and pulling the carto slot through the seals. I slotted this carto with a dremel tool and the edges of the slot are pretty sharp - I'll punch the next one with a saddle valve but I already had this one cut. Time to pay a little more attention to what I'm doing ;)

I punched 2 small holes in my boge carto today for the first time and it works great. I have been using the dremmel on my first tank mods. I used a very pointy screw so it would stop when it got to the first thread of the screw and not make the hole too big. This will be the way I do it from now on. Its just easier with the screw.

Now this is cool! I also use a 510 connection. I can see this type of mod as the next innovation in mods. I have read of others with the same ideas.

Found something cool can be done with the tank made with a 10ml syringe ...

aa_tank.png

Had to take the wrapper off the battery anf file the inside edges of the box a little, but it all fits :)

The case is the common 2xAA or 9V hobby box; same size i believe. I have removed the original battery connectors and cross-beam.

One could have a wiewing window cut in the box lid.

Now to wire it up ...

+++

Found some old pics. Here's an earlier mod using the same box type. It's touch operated : the two contacts are the drawing pin and the atomiser (it's old - but it can take a cartomiser also). The atty/carto is recessed. That's a 901 next to it; the box is pretty small.

touch_box.png

The MOSFET (2cm x 1cm x 3.5mm) I mostly use is quite big but has a very low on resistance; besides it's easier to solder ;) It can be a touch switch by itself (well, add one resistor); the other chips on the breadboard were for an attempt at automatic temperature control using PWM and an op-amp.

mosfet.png

One more - quite funny - my tank mod from 2009 :

first_tank.png

The top part was effectively making a cartomizer from an atomizer, and the lower part was the tank. The air flow was in at the top and out that small side tube. It was pretty big, partly as the carto and tank had their own space - but it did hold 30ml ;)

Just sharing ideas and encouragement. Modding is great fun (sometimes) ...

A discovery! To get a good fit for connecting the air sensor auto switch to the connector, one can use the internal 901 atty tube (silver in the pic). This fits the front of the sensor almost perfectly. Cut a cm of atty tube and fit the carto connector in one end. The silver tube slides into the other end. Wrap all in tape.

Sorry for poor picture quality. I know not many like auto switches, but for those who, this is worth noting.

Seems a very small hole is all that is required. Mine is too small to see, even with a magnifier. Yet it works - have seen an air bubble come through it. And this is with 100% VG (as I was testing).

That must be a very small hole, what did you use to get the hole in it?? I have used a saddle valve and if I stop when I hear it pop true the hole is to small, and starves my carto for fluid and I get a burnt taste. This is for a 1.7ohm 510 carto.

A 3ohm 808. Just hacksawed till my arm ached ;)

I also use a pointed Deck screw and it works good. I also like the saddle valve but, haven't got the hole size down yet, if I run it all the way down and do 2 holes it floods, if I stop when I hear it pop thru with one hole it starves the carto for juice. I will just have to play with 2 small holes when the saddle valve first pops thru and just one hole with the saddle valve turned all the way end down for 1 bigger hole. So far the Deck screw 1 hole works very well but I hope to get the saddle valve to work, then I don't need to go to the garage to hammer the screw. LOL

That's one thing I have and didn't try. I love the frosted look.

After the 'pop', I turn the t-handle until I feel no further resistance. That means the hole is the diameter as the 'needle'. I punch three equi-distance holes and have had no issues.

That's about what I do. I turn the handle about 3-4 full turns after the pop. I use 3 holes ~equally spaced.

For anyone interested... I found the same earring backs that I used earlier at my local Michaels. I bought a pack of 170 for $2.99. If anyone wants to try them (since people have said they are hard to find) I will happily mail you some. Otherwise, if you want to look for them, they are in a blue package labeled 'jewelry essentials'.

I also bought a leather punch set similar to what my4jewels posted earlier, but I haven't tried it on a syringe tank yet.

I used a rotary leather punch I just bought today on the tank I made above. Worked pretty well :)

WOW...brain overload. My wife may have a point...I need to find an obsession/hobby that actually has some kind of benefit. I just found this thread today( and with the inordinate amount of time I spend on this forum that is kind of amazing), And I found the time to read through all 114 pages...make a trip to tractor supply and home depot..and fashion my first syringe mod.

Just 2 days ago I saw for the first time a dual coil map tank and thought "WOW...I need that", and that was right after I just placed a sizeable order and told my beloved that I was good for a while. The map tank is $25. Looked at it and thought that one could probably make one a lot cheaper. Then Karma lead me here.

Read this entire thread..Tractor supply...Home depot...made first tank...HOOKED.

Not the most outstanding effort..less than 10 min. start to finish, but love what turned out and the potential. My biggest problem was forgetting that I hit a Maxi Roughstack with a top button...but luckily I allowed enough room for adjustment and all is good. Didn't bother with an external filler port on this first one but that will be a must have on future efforts.

A great big thanks to everyone that put this awesome thread together and recommendations on a side filler port would be greatly appreciated. I do have a ton of syringes laying about(diabetic), but would prefer a quick way to just fill with a bottle.

Again...thanks to all of you that have labored through this from day one. This is by far the best "mod" I've seen in my year of vaping.

Yeah, hopefully it overcomes the last main bugbear of vaping (big batteries are pretty much there) - refilling and inconsistent hits (and worrying if getting low).

Welcome to the party ;)
Yes the tanks take care of those problems, refilling and inconsistent hits and makes your carto's last a whole lot longer without burning. I love the tanks but, they spoil you when you use the regular carto's when you go out so you don't look so conspicuous. LOL

Welcome to the "tank mod brigade" I certainly enjoy my syringe tank mods. They have changed vaping for me. None of this would be possible without David who made the video that I posted in the very beginning. Hip, hip, hooray!

I go everywhere with my tanks, and anyone who cares to ask thinks they're cool! My tanks usually sit atop my Buzz Pro Mist or VV boxmod. Pretty soon, they'll be sitting on a VV GRIP. I don't mind being conspicuous at all.

A warning, I used the stuff with pumice once to clean bugs off the front of my car and it frosted my paint job and had to get it buffed out. I used my saddle valve the second time and just put one hole in it (turning all the way in) and it works great. When I did that with 2 holes it flooded and never did work, I put them at the same level. So with 3 holes they must be small like when you hear the pop and quit. I wonder if they have different sizes of the piercing rods depending on what manufacture makes it?? This is on a 1.7ohm S.S. Resurrector, haven't tried it on a regular 510 3ohm yet but I will. My experiance is too small a hole and it starves, to big hole or wicking area and it floods.
