Three blocks is huge. My hospital is "across the street" rule. However, I must admit that before I was a vapor I thought that my co-worker was smoking pot when he pulled out his vape. Laughing now but I was uneducated and uninformed and simply didn't know any better. He was, however, the one who turned me onto vaping and permanently off analogs. But only because I ASKED and researched the HECK out of vaping. vaping is fairly new with little FDA research to support safety. Plus, having worked in a hospital, i must admit that many things such as cell phones are banned simply because of their possible interference or ignition of oxygen tanks and the like.

Given the chance, I know that the more informed people are and the wider spread vaping becomes, the public attitude will shift in our favor. It is really no different than a dehumidifier and my doctor has applauded my transition so I just vape where I know it won't offend anyone. Strangely, my work lets us vape in the break room so I'm not that limited.

UPDATE: Story continues today. Radio news reporting that Erlanger Hospital Board of Directors just voted to ban from employment any person that smokes, chews, or dips. I guess if you are employed there the three block rule doesn't really matter anymore. This report didn't mention e-cigarettes but since they did on Tuesday I have to assume that it applies to them also. I looked for a link to a news story but apparently it is still too new.

I 100% agree! I am so sick of the 'snowball effect' it makes me ill. It appears to me that these zealots have nothing better to do! I am still waiting for scales in the grocery store check out so they can mandate what you eat by measuring your weight!! And I am sure that they are trying to figure out a way to come into your HOME and arrest you for smoking!! Although I am vaping now I find that most all consider it one in the same. I for one am doing all of the daily activity to fight this narrow minded attitude!

Ha, I'd be SO performing civil disobedience due to that rule. Words can't describe how I feel about that.

And just to be clear, I would NOT be stealth vaping, I'd be doing it in full view of everyone but NOT on their property. We can't allow rules like this to be enforced, how far will they take it? Remember what they did with smoking and restaurants, then bars? It's about increments and we can't give in.

I live in the Chattanooga area, and while this has been a controversial topic in the news, the media attention to it seems to have died down. The only contact to the hospital given is to snail mail them. So I did (10.24.2013). My letter has not received a response, so I am working on drafting another one. Most people in the area (Which includes nearby Northwest Georgia) feel this ban is unjust, but no one with power is challenging it. Another area hospital (Memorial) enacted a tobacco ban a few years ago, but I'm not sure if it included ecigs (This one by Erlanger does), and they got a pass since they are a private hospital.

Yes, I suppose if the hospital grounds are three blocks long...

But what hospital has three blocks worth of grounds???

Also, if you were ON the grounds you'd know it...right? There would be signs, etc. This just all isn't computing, for me.

Ever been to the CHOC and St Joseph medical facilities in Orange? My wife works there and they have the same rules.. No smoking (not sure about vaping) on their properties. All the medical facilities in that area which are a lot, are all affiliated with St Joseph and do spread out for blocks.

The hospital in my town did that ban on their property. All it did was to have cigarette butts littering everywhere cause they took all the ashtrays away! All I know if my mother has to go back in they better let her do it cause shes allergic to the adhesive in the patches and the gum gives her canker sores so there would be hell to pay if she couldn't even vape!
