Its so hard to capture on a phone. Here is the new 5 wrap. See the caking on the top coils?

I really dont think they were loose. Think thsts the issue based on these?

Ahhhh, OK. So they are not loose, just caked. This can happen from time to time. I see this most often when it is run for too long with weakened batteries.

Hold the button and let the coil get really hot then run it under cold water. That crust will fall right off and you will be back to normal. :)

Lorderos..... The more I read the more little things I see that can affect performance. So from what you’re saying here, it sounds like the coils should remain shinny for them to work properly? Am I reading that properly?

Don't know Genesis-style attys (yet), but I have some knowledge of electronics - my guess is not "shiny" but rather "wire-thin"... in other words, as long as there is not so much gunk on the wire that it disrupts the heat from reaching the juice. A surface patina should not matter much.

Not shiny, they will turn black and perform very well. They should remain clear of crust. I heat mine and rinse with cold water about once a week or as needed to maintain flavor. Doing this my coils last at least a couple of months and my wicks last close to a year.

I can't remember when the last time I needed to change a coil because it popped was. I change them when they cease to perform and a cleaning no longer brings them back, but as long as they are not broken down by shorting, coils and wicks last a very long time.

That is 100% correct. In fact, this black patina that develops on the kanthal further prevents shorting.

Thanks lorderos... guys....... FWIW, I agree with Filibuster...... Catch all these pearls and keep'em together. I should think folks would like to know that wicks and coils can last so long given the right preventative maintenance.

All over the place
I can't remember if it was today or yesterday that I talked about this as being a "place" more than a thread? It finally clicked what this thing is to me...it is my favorite channel. I watch my favorite channel on TV sometimes and then punch the numbers on the remote for a new channel, and lo and behold, it is the channel that I was already watching. This is turning into that.

OK, so now I know it's a wicking issue. Try taking the wick out and making sure it is open on both ends and clear all the way through. Then hit it with a torch and get it glowing good and red.

While it is red, dunk it in cold water. I bet some black bits fly out of it. Do this till no more stuff falls from the wick when you dunk it.

Put a long pin, open paperclip or filling needle through the wick and insert it back into the Zenesis. Then wrap a new coil with the pin inserted. Pull the pin and sort out any shorts and tip it while firing till the juice starts to flow.

You should have a very nicely working Zenesis after doing this.

I was getting such harsh hits today I scrapped everything, pulled out a fresh 325 wick and tried this step by step. I especially like the tip about wrapping the coil with a paperclip in the wick. No hanging coils anymore. Going to stick with this one for a bit and see if I can get it to break in.

Thanks Lorderos!

Beats ABC and NBC combined! CBS? That's about all you'll see... ZEN for the win! I'm sure I speak for all when I say we are just as glad to have you. ;)

Ya, leaving the paperclip in seemed very helpful to me as well.
