grruss....
I didn't have an insulator on my aluminum when I got it.

Two things, and I'm no expert:
I, and others, have other genny type devices that don't use insulators. Others have used their Zens without an insulator.
It is said that with a well oxidized wick, an insulator is not necessary.
Now, I know Zen put one there for a reason, and I won't advise you to use an item that isn't "stock", but just to try to solve your problem, have you tried yours without the insulator, just to see if your coil is too close and burning the the PTFE and/or if there is a problem with the new ones you put in?

Second,
I don't know what it's called, but Katz had posted that she is using a piece out of an old carto.
Since my aluminum was sans insulator, I didn't have one handy and didn't want to wait for an order.... LOL
I used this piece as well.
I was going to just skip it, but all my pre-made wicks were to thin to use without something there, and I was too excited to try it out to take the time to roll a different one.

If you have a carto, dual coil is best because the piece is longer.
It looks almost like material to me.
And it works, and works well.

I didn't have anything to actually take the carto apart, so I just carefully pulled the innards out through the top.
It's inside the batting, whitish/yellowish in color, 1 to 2cm long and almost looks like canvas.
I can try to get some pictures if you want......
Lorderos recommended a clean piece of the ink section of a Bic Round pen as well. You can find this info HERE

The Zenesis is turning into a mod....sorry, but the PTFE is part of the design for people who don't know how to oxidize a wick properly, it is to accommodate the new genesis users. Once you know how to do it, this PTFE is useless but!! the hole is so large you will need a fatter wick and a fatter wick will make it a different vaping experience, you need to wrap differently as resistance will change as your coil will be longer......A Genesis atomizer's variables all have to fit together, they need to be in balance......

Yep.
But this piece isn't plastic, and I don't have any bic pens. LOL

edited to add:
I was also trying to take plastic out of the equation, just in case his was burning.
And I could be way off base. I did say I was no expert. ;)

To back up UnFettered here, I asked Mike about using this and he said it worked really well for him too. If you have one it may be worth a try. I have found that it helps with wicking as well.

Edited to add:

I used a horizontal coil carto and just pulled the stuff out with tweezers. The coil still works so now I use it as a dripping/tasting atty.

I've read about your success, Katz and I'm impressed.

I'm familiar with Lorderos33 recommendations

I had an insulator. The problem was my installation. Since it was such a tight fit, I "mushroomed" it when I was installing it. All I needed to do was remove the coil/wick and trim the fat mushroomed head off of it with an Exacto knife. Excellent wicking commenced. At least that was the problem on the Ti. I don't have the Standard with me today, but I'm guessing it has the same problem, since I replaced the insulator on it, too.
