Here's a little story....
I know I've read here and there where some have some safety concerns, with the Zens and a couple of other
hybrids.

I took my mini upstairs with me to make dinner, took a few puffs and set it on the counter.
I didn't really pay much attention to how I set it, and when I came back about 20 minutes later, that sucker was HOT!

Apparently, I had let it tip just enough when I set it down that the switch was engaged, and it was firing all that time.
Seriously, it was 20 minutes, maybe 15.

I took the switch and the cap off and pulled the battery out.
The switch had worked loose, the screw had come loose.
The body has hot, but the top I could hardly hold on to to get it off.

I let it cool down, put a fresh battery in, and it's working fine.

You would think there would be some type of problem after continuously firing for that long, but other than the screw working loose and the heat, it was fine.

that was similar to what happened with my standard with the old switch... It was in my provari holster at work, when I pulled it out, i burned my hand on the top cap. using a few paper towels as an insulator, I took it out of the holster and took the switch off..the screw worked it's way loose and made continual contact with the battery. I didnt have an extra and had to wait 'til I arrived home to put in another... when I pulled the top cap off after cooling down, the coil hadn't popped, which I was surprised about, especially since I had no idea how long the standard had been firing...that coil worked fine for about a month and change longer before it finally popped during a cleaning session.

That's good to hear, Unfettered.

I, myself, have no safety concerns about any of the APVs Zen builds. I think the bottom line is that you have to get to know the designer and have faith in him and his abilities before you buy any mod.

I have always squirmed when I hear about fairly new vapers throwing together a mod for themselves out of stuff that was laying around.

I wouldn't cross the ocean either in a boat built by a next door neighbor whose day job, experience, and/or engineering ability did not inspire confidence in the final product.........LOL

I just had to drop by and give a progress report from classwife. she is doing well now that her wick and coil are broken in. She's probably in a nic coma somewhere right now...

(Actually my post here is to relieve zens anxiety and to create anxiety for others:lol:)

You've succeeded!!!8-o8-o8-o

I would not think that. And here's why :)

AW IMR batteries have a discharge capacity of 10C. 10C means 10 times the amperage of the overall storage capacity. So, a 2000 milliamp hour (or 2 amp hour) battery is rated to withstand continuous use without fault at a discharge rate of 20 amps. A typical 4 or 5 wrap coil will draw approximately 10% of the C rating which means that there is no danger of battery damage while there is a load present.

What may cause damage is a short that completely eliminates the load. I have to use some naughty terms here, but they have nothing to do with how the Zenesis functions and relate to thermal runaway. A coil of 2 ohms draws 2.1 amps which is well within the limitations of the battery. However, if you bypass the load and only have the natural resistance of the metal of the chassis...let's say .1 ohms...that amp draw jumps to 42 amps which is more than double the C rating of the battery.

So, while your situation may have been scary, it is not an example of why many, if not most, builders feel the need to have at least some form of venting even if they are designed to use safer chemistry batteries as the Zenesis is.

Wow what a diff a clean switch makes!

BTW Shai...48 Blue in the truck right now :)
Also some may want to try this: Before your next fill up you may want to fill the tank w/iso and let it squirt out of the wick once or twice followed by twice duing the same w/water to flush the iso, for me this cleans the wick and the monster awakes......FULL STEAM AHEAD!

did i kill the thread before i even wrote the stupid joke? LOL

No, I think it's just that Sunday night getting ready for school and work the next day thing........

I'm just hanging around waiting until it gets dark to see if I can see any meteors tonight. Last night was a total bust with too much cloud cover. Tonight it's supposed to be clear......I hope so. I don't think I'm up to 3 nights in a row laying around outside on the ground......LOL
