That would work for sure, but I know who MOST of you are...

Let me toss out an idea...

How about making it so that if I don't recognize who they are, I request a photo of the person with the PV. If they cannot provide a photo, they can post a deposit which will be refunded when I get parts back from them... in ALL cases I have people give me their forum screen names.

Thoughts?

That was gonna be my suggestion; emailing photos are easy these days. Having them return replaced parts just seals the deal.

Evening, everyone!

Worked too late and am totally beat after catching up... my wife is in the same boat and we are going to sleep ridiculously early, but tomorrow is Friday so YAY!!!

Our anniversary is in late June and it's my year to plan our celebration, so maybe forgoing VC in favor of a "Zen~stock" would be in the cards (along with additional touring of the area) :) :) :)

UV, thoughts and prayers are with you!!!

Shai, happy birthday!!! I'm only two years behind you... I keep thinking of the old joke, "inside every 60-year old is a 20-year old saying, "What happened?!?!" " Trying to impart this lesson to 20-something kids is impossible, 'tho. Something we have to experience to understand... :p

K-Man and Ian, you are both nuts. Delightfully so. :)

I have no technical advice for anyone, other than to say "if you need to make a new coil, go for it - it's WAY easier than you think and you will thank yourself for it". Dented batteries bother me not, unless they stop charging and/or discharge too quickly - then toss them.

I only (for now) have an *ASH*, but it's been firmly welded to my hand for weeks now and is going nowhere - THANK YOU MIKE for the AMAZING device!!

Have a happy Thursday, "Zenfriends"!! :) :) :)

By the way. I was the person who wanted to get one like 5 min into VC and you didn't have the ability to take a card yet. So I bugged you a few times (3,4,5 lol) through out the day. You told someone to get "this patient person a sidewinder" lol. I could tell if you were being sarcastic not.

You were REALLY patient! I was not being sarcastic!

Have people submit a picture including the SW and serial number. Track the serials and ensure you don't issue two kits to one number.

Ideally have them submit the 'order' and hold all orders for a week to ensure no duplication. If there is a 'problem' serial, ask both submitters to jump on a skype video call with you and show you the device real time.

Pain in the ..., but.... it would work.

Other option: Put a $100 price tag on the kits. Validate the card but don't run the charge. Have them submit a picture of their device, serial number, and installed kit before you pull the charge out of your processing batch. Let the 'thieves' pay you $100 each if they really want to.

No serial numbers and I'm not making people wait while I compile a list, I hate lists.

I actually think that other than sending back the SW, this is the best idea....pictures of someone w/ the SW (anyone can photoshop or steal someone else's photo) or Ian's idea sending inserts back, you'll find someone with the ingenuity to 'make' their own and weasle into getting something they aren't supposed to have 8-o... I would always say, safety first... and that would be if they want the upgrade, send in the unit...

I've posted the plan... let's see if it works... Go get'em

Oh, Annie... if you're sending yours back, grab the kit anyway online that reserves it for you. Put in the comments section that it's coming home.

I've got to say... I don't think zen wants to be inspecting photos for photoshop. Pains in the ... will still be pains in the ....

Best recommendation I've got is tie real name to forum name to serial number for everyone that you DO know. Require photos of serial number from everyone you do NOT know. Odds are overwhelmingly good that if they don't have a real device in hand that they're going to guess, and their guess will almost certainly be both a bad photoshop AND overlap a genuine submission.

No serial number on the sidewinder..

I actually think that other than sending back the SW, this is the best idea....unfortunately, pictures of someone w/ the SW (anyone can photoshop or steal someone else's photo) or Ian's idea sending inserts back, you'll find someone with the ingenuity to 'make' their own and weasle into getting something they aren't supposed to have 8-o... I always say, safety first, and that would be if they want the upgrade, send in the unit...really, that's a small price to pay (even it it IS a pain) for everyone that needs or wants it done

Perhaps not just sending the insert, but sending the empty packaging. Counterfiet tubes/inserts would be much harder to fake. Drop the parts in the tube when you get it and ship it back out. I'm trying to figure out a way for people to do this without burdening Zen with extra work, and get a chance to hold their PV. Mine is hitting great and I'm loving it. I'd miss it.

Does anybody have any thoughts on how to make sure these parts, which are expensive, get to the rightful owners?
I like the deposit idea too. Refunded when they return the replaced parts.

oh man, that bites...there's always gonna be some @$$hat around that has to ruin it for everyone else  they need to be hung upside down with fish hooks, from their 'junk'...then have their eyelids, fingernails and toenails peeled away with a branding iron-hot set of rusty vice grips :p sorry, I can think of a zillion other punishments worse than this :grr:
Wow, putting your name at the top of my "people to never pizz off" list!

That's brilliant... and it will ONLY be from people that I don't know, so MOST will ship quickly.

I may use that instead of photographic proof!

This is a great idea but I can see how the trouble makers will complain about this as well. It would go something like....we have to mail in proof at our expense and have our devices that cost us hard earned $$ gets to just sit here as a paper weight while we wait.....some people always look for the negative and it's those who always stir the crapper and make things stink.

I will do whatever you suggest Mike.....mine must have been one of the 20% because it hits like a dream. :vapor:

that's why I'm saying, other than the peeps that Mike already knows, that regardless, this is the safest way. have them send it in....no mistaking or falsely getting the upgrade...

true, but then just like the saying goes....you cant please everyone all the time...when they bought the units, they were told that upgrades for em would be available soon, and it can be explained why it HAS to be done a certain way...it's extremely sad, but unavoidable...

This is a great idea but I can see how the trouble makers will complain about this as well. yea IF I had one already, and it wasn't already done, I'd still send it in...but then, that's me...

The buyer takes a pic with their screen name next to their Sidewinder and dated? That's what I do in some of my classified ads.

That pic has to be sent to you and IP addresses should never be duplicated. If someone bought two Sidewinders, BOTH Sidewinders should be in the same pic with a sign showing the buyer's name/screen name and the date....maybe even their address?
