I know I probably just missed it somewhere.. but I checked Mike's site.. and the search here on ECF doesn't seem to be finding anything sidewinder (or its just broke). But my upgrade kit arrived yesterday and I'm hunting for the instructions. Anyone have a link to where I can find them?

Thankies

Jen
The Reluctant Zenfidel (I got there eventually!)

I ran into something that has me scratching my head. Yesterday I started getting dry hits from the AYS and when I checked, the insulator was melted to the wick and I messed it up while trying to get it unstuck. I put a new wick and wrapped a new 4 wrap coil (that's what seems to work the best on my SS Mini), adjusted it so it was firing perfectly, seasoned the coil, and filled it up. I was getting about 5 pulls of good flavor and vapor production and then BAM.........metalic so bad it would burn my throat.

This morning I got up and tried it again and the same thing. I took the top cap off and fired it a few times at 3 o'clock and it seemed to be doing fine but after about the 5th time I would notice some of the coils glowing. I emptied the juice to readjust the coil but they were all glowing evenly. The one thing I did notice was that they were getting cherry red instantly. So, I pulled the coil off and wrapped a new 5 wrap coil on the same wick and am now getting the perfect vape out of it.

Only thing I can think of is that the 4 wrap coil was getting so hot, it was burning the juice off faster than it could wick. I don't have a meter so I didn't check the coils. But I thought that a 4 wrap would work the same on it as it does on the Mini. Could the extra length of the wick have anything to do with it?

metallic taste tells me that you're shorting somewhere. are you just using a wick or did you put in a new ptfe? if you've gone "wick only", you'd have to be very sure how oxidized that baby is to prevent shorts. a thicker wick will also raise the resistance to the coil.

It has the insulator in it and was a preoxidized Zen wick. I'm not near confident enough in my wick making ability to even think about trying anything but the Cobalt without an insulator.

if you have the ptfe and your wick is good, i'd go through the simple stuff first...
make sure that your wick isn't touching the center post or the tank bottom first (which i'm sure you did.. but i had to say it). after that i'd start checking for shorts on the coil. i'm pretty .... about the spacing i put on each wrap. i try to keep them pretty uniformed. do you "line" you wick when you wrap your coils? i use a syringe needle when i wrap mine because i like the positive feedback of the contact between coil and wick. if your wick is in a good position, just fire and nudge those wraps until they settle down.
remember, a new wick and coil will taste a little funky and will not really wick great until they season up...

I'm sorry, who is this guy talking all these zeninisms. Shouldn't you be working on an announcement or something.

I have 7 wraps on my zaps with 30 gauge. What is that, 28 gauge?

Im not sure, but i think its 32, its the kanthal that comes w/ the zap. I just tried rewrapping it, and my normal 5 wrap that usually reads 2.1, reads 1.3 on both provaris. Now i get what she is talking about. No shorts anywhere, using the insulator too. :?: im going to try seeing if any liquid leaked into the post.

lolz         :?:
she said thats the only way she could get 2 ohms out of it because she tried a 5, 6 and 7 wrap, i think this one is 12? The funny thing is that it vapes and it actually reads 2 ohms. I had a 5 wrap on there before so I think I'll rewrap it a 5 or maybe try a 6. Why is it only reading 2 ohms though? my coils are a bit bigger than that so i thought maybe its because hers are so tiny, oh well... i thought it was funny anyways... :p

Edit: Looking at it though, she actually did a pretty good job coiling it

That's an epic coil!! Got my first gen style device today. It's not a Zen~ but just wanted to show this in comparison to your wife's coil lol

Uuuuummmmm....I'm tellin'!

Tsk - tsk - tsk

APV! APV! APV!

I bet that's changed soon. ;)

Morning sunshines!

Batten down the hatches East Coasters! I'm sending positive vibes your way and hoping the Hybrid storm misses you all! My sister included!

No, no no! Don't you go jinxing my storm! I prayed, and bled, and made human sacrifice to the surf gods to make this storm come together. And I dared um to aim it at my home break. Low and behold, here's the perfect super cell headed my way gonna send me some epic surf! I wait all year for hurricane season and years for storms like this no matter where I am. I will be spending the next few days chasing this hottie of a storm up the coast and plan to be on the road and mostly in the water and on the beach 24/7 till she finally either stays inland or moves out and dies. Can't wait, don't kill my hopes and dreams! :p

This is what dreams (least mine) are made of!!!

Hurricane SANDY

Hopefully she tracks just a bit further north and those winds go offshore Monday and Wednesday too!

Miss me?!?! Sure missed y'all! :)

Been rough around here. As some of y'all know, my daughter was expecting her second child (MY granddaughter) and was having complications. Almost 8 weeks of bedrest, hospitalized 5 times, she finally gave birth (3 weeks early) to my perfect and beautiful g'daughter. Both are doing well and my daughter is finally getting back to her healthy self.

Between that, and me and her hubby playing tag with their other child (my sweet grandson) and then getting thrown down with health issues of my own, it's been a ride! LOL

Now, how is everyone doing and what did I miss besides the Sidewinder. :( Still crying over that. ROFL!
