We had an earthquake just north west of us on the Queen Charlotte Islands or Haida Gwaii. It was 7.1 and they have had over 40 aftershocks of more than 4.0. Half of those were 4.5 and 7 were above 5.0. I have never seen anything like this. It has generated a tsunami watch and warning for the coast of North America from Mexico to Alaska and all the way out to Hawaii where they had a wave of 2.5 feet. I know it does not sound like much, but a wave that high can push a large boat a long way inland and do a lot of damage. I wish this would stop. It happened at just after 8 pm our time PST. So I wonder how many aftershocks there will be in the next day or so. They said it occurred too far north for it to relieve any pressure from the fault that we live close too, so it did not decrease the danger of the big one happening in Vancouver at any time now.

I can't believe that after this summer, I didn't buy a generator! Oh well, all the outside furniture indoors....plenty of food, dog and cat food and of course toilet paper.

Gonna go get some kerosene later and lamp oil. I have plenty of candles, but the oil lamps might be a nice change. At least in the winter if I loose power, I have blankets and a gas stove if things get too bad.

They are already calling in power teams from neighboring states...I've seen crews from Kentucky today.

I so hope this doesn't turn to heavy snow...trees down, power lines all over the place. The problem with the summer storm was that they couldn't get to repair the lines for all the trees and growth. Now....leaves.

Plenty of Zens and juice, so I'm golden :)

Stay safe there kiddo!

which side is the leeward side?? LOL I just need east or west.

Hell, I don't know. LOL
I'm a transplant.
I can tell you the area we are in, South Jersey close to Philly and the Delaware River.
Both are about 1/2 hour away.

Oh wait... which side of the storm?
LOL I don't know that either.

Good afternoon Zenfidels!
Been a dreary, rainy, windy day here.
We lost power for a little over an hour this afternoon. There have been reports of some low lying coastal flooding from storm surge, but we're well away from that.
The worst, for us, doesn't happen until sometime tomorrow. Expecting strong tropical force winds, with hurricane force gusts.
Looks like the folks up north are going to get really hammered! Hope they all stay safe!!

Nope, nothing here. I live in an ancient lake bed here so our ground is like jello. The folks that live on the hard pan (think mountains or rock) are feeling the sway a little. They felt it just 20 miles north of me in Langley.
don't know how something over 6 can be an aftershock. are you feeling these Katz? nothing here
